What is going on at Retro Fitness in EHT? I have been a member since 2013 and since Gus left it has been on a steady decline. Treadmills have been broken for months, seats are ripped and not being repaired, sink faucets are broken, and the overall cleanliness is pretty bad. read more

I am very disappointed with Retro Fitness. After reading other reviews I noticed I'm not the only one who they have done this to. I had been a member for a year, and when I was ready to cancel my membership they gave me a very hard time. I cancelled once, but they continued to charge me for 2 months at which point I went back and cancelled AGAIN. 3 months later I get an email telling me that they have sent my account to collections!! I have 2 Retros closer to me in Manahawkin and Tuckerton but this is closer to my work and honestly, is significantly better. Good amount of space, weights, and machines and not terribly cramped (Tuckerton) or outdated (Manahawkin). read more

This place is awesome ! We pay as guest every time we visit the beach but plan on joining as soon as we move permanently ! The staff is super friendly, the members are respectful, friendly and the GYM is by far one of the best I have been at in all of my life. I have trained at some of the best in the USA and this place lacks of nothing ! It has the basic weights, the benches , the right amount of machines, treadmills and all the stuff that is needed to hit the difficult parts of the body Iike Hamstrings ect. I cant thank the staff enought for the kindness and professionalism when we are on the premises, its a great Gym and I would suggest it to anyone from the novice to the serious bodybuilder /athlete ! read more

While not a member here, I did purchase a week pass so that I could use the gym while in the area. I called a number of gyms to see what the deal was, and this was the only gym in the area that actually had a reasonable rate for a short-term pass. It was a piece of cake to get the pass, and the staff have all been very friendly and helpful so far (after only a few visits). PROS: 1. Reasonable weekly rate (may not apply to you if you're looking long-term) 2. Modern equipment in good condition (except the ratty pull-down ropes) 3. Decent music playing 4. Friendly staff CONS: 1. It's crowded--not just because it's popular, but because they cram a LOT of equipment into the space. But hey, at least they have lots of equipment. 2. No complimentary towels 3. Only one water fountain The "cons" aren't really a big deal, so this place ranks just fine in my book. I will definitely be coming back next time I travel to the area. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. It's a nice gym, with very poor management. When I go to a gym I want to feel comfortable in the environment, I felt far from comfortable here. I overheard an employee talking bad about the customers there, making rude and unacceptable comments that lead me to switch gyms. I can't believe a manager would keep someone employed there that makes customers feel uncomfortable. read more

Far exceeded my expectations. Am local So NJ for work-family trip and needed a sweat to work off too many soft pretzels and cheese steaks. Reasonable $10 fee and clean spaces with plenty of equipment to get your effort on. Staff nice/welcoming to me and mini me. I was at my previous gym for 3 years but I moved and was upset that I had to leave but I needed something closer. After doing walk throughs of all other surrounding gyms (I take my gyms very serious) I decided to go with Retro! I am so so happy that I did! I have only been a member for about 5 months and I have made a handful of acquaintances and lots of friendly faces. The owner is super friendly and helpful as well as the employees. I mainly like to lift and every single thing I would want for my workout regimen is there and even more then my previous gym. I hate cardio lol but when I do it there is plenty of equipment to go around and always available. Retro is clean, inviting, and so affordable sometimes I feel like I am ripping them off haha! I also really enjoy the app for retro which helps you find classes, join a challenge and earn points for each workout as well as points for all other kinds of things in which you can use towards free items of choice. Very clean gym, great options of machines, Affordable, most staff are approachable and kind, however i gave 2 stars because one staff, a female with long curly hair not sure of her name however she was very rude, and never seems too happy to be working there. I come here for the price and the atmosphere. It's cheap and most times I'm not bothered. I come to the gym to workout, not to make friends or be creeped on. Most people here don't have an agenda other than to work out, from what I've seen so far. There are some machines I'd like to see in there that they don't have, but other than that not many cons. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years. I've watched this place change for the better. They've added a second addition upstairs for cardio, which freed up so much space. They are constantly adding new equipment, and the staff is always willing to help you if you have any questions. They offer tons of classes and group training. Worst gym ever!!!! Had a membership for a little bit then had to cancel for health reasons and they took out my monthly bill the day I canceled and still wanted to take out two additional months after I canceled. Couldn't afford to pay for basically the third month of a canceled membership so I changed banks and now I'm getting bills from collections for three times the amount of the monthly membership payment at retro. Love this Brand . The EHT location is great staff is very friendly place is always kept clean. Smoothies available after you train. Love the hours 4 am to midnight! Since Yelp deleted my first review, cause they thought I was a bot, I'll try again. In my umpteen years of working out, and many gym memberships, this is, without a doubt the best. From 90 yr olds to 20 yrs young, you'll never feel intimidated. Clean, with more than enough equipment to reach your goals. One of the best things is the staff, and owner are top notch. I've been going here for about a year. From what I've seen they are the cheapest in the area. They have tons of classes for members which is what really sold me. They also have a theater room that I love, tanning, and even child care. Its not 24hr but they start earlier than me and close at midnight week nights, and 7 weekends. The Staff is very friendly and helpful. I would say there is plenty of equipment even when they're busy but I usually go later in the evening anyway. read more

Been checking out all the gyms in the area (ie: planet fitness, and island) retro fitness deffinatly won me over. Such a great energy when you walk in the door, extremely friendly staff, clean, has everything you need and the Team training is amazing lost 5 pounds in a week already! I just joined this Retro Fitness a few weeks ago and so far so good! What sold me on this gym was the price of course and the environment. This isn't the "meat head" type of gym where everybody is benching 300lbs and squatting 450lbs. Not that it matters but you don't feel intimidated is what I mean. From what I've seen, its a great crowd to work out around, if that makes any sense. I've seen high school kids in there all the way up to sixty+ year olds. There is a decent amount of equipment for each muscle group including free weights, machines, and a dozen or so treadmills and ellipticals. The staff is very friendly, the gym itself is clean and the juice bar has some delicious smoothies! I would say for improvements would be to add another water fountain (there's only one) and a few more workout benches (inclines and flats). Otherwise, I'm very satisfied with Retro! read more

Rip off I completed my contract didn't go gym for six months waited until contract finish .. I went to cancel they still wanna charge me extra month bacuase I wanna cancel 20 days before my next month start.. bad company.. taking money for whole year plus extra $32 annual fee wasn't enough... I never leave reviews but this one I had to. Retro is a good gym, clean, organized, and the owner really cares about the members. But if you're like me, you are forced to skip the gym on Saturdays and Sundays because they close at 7 pm.. yeah, 7 pm on the weekend, already bad.. Yesterday I actually made it there, went it at 5 and planned a workout until closing. I guess the kid at the front desk had better plans with all his friends sitting at the counter because at 6:50 the lights go out in the whole place. Im upstairs doing the last of my cardio then its PITCH BLACK. I have to use my phone flashlight just to get my stuff together to get out. Id understand the lights going out if it was after 7, but 10 minutes before closing?! with probably 7 or 8 other people in the gym?? You already close ridiculously early and now you're kicking people out even earlier than that. Unprofessional, lazy, and aggravating. Starting to think Tilton across the street would be better suited for me. read more

I stopped here on a friday down the shore and paid for the day rate. Overall the experience was great, it was 10 dollars for the day, and I wasn't hassled or anything upon sign up. Just provided some info and signed a waiver and was on my way. I got a great workout here, the gym wasn't overly crowded, and was larger than a lot of other retro fitness that I had been too. I used to stop in the Tilton fitness when i was in the area, but they always hassled me to sign up for longer, or pay for a month, even if I was in town for 3 days! I like that this was a no hassle experience and I was able to just stop in and get a quick workout. read more
