Food is excellent. The wine was very good with a long selection. It was very loud though.

We me the chef, Enzo, at a Ferrari event across town. The man running the event introduced us and urged us to go to his restaurant for the best meal in town. He then told Enzo to take care of his "new" friends. We decided that an offer like that can't be missed so we went there for lunch the nest day. My friend decided to give Enzo our go-ahead to bring out whatever he thought would put a smile on our faces. As you can see from the photo I posted, Enzo was table-side a lot, asking about preferences and potential allergies. We were treated to course after course of great, locally-sourced dishes, every one would be a signature dish for eateries over here in the USA. For example, he sprinkled Parmesan cheese on our risotto (etherial!) and added "aged thirty six months" - and it was rich, creamy and memorable. This small place deserves your attention and a high rating from anyone who understands what it takes to run a memorable restaurant that delivers quality, fair-priced food. In Maranello, the debate is always - Cavallino or Montana - the two most famous restaurants in town. Each has their fans - especially given their Ferrari-centered reputation (Ferrari big-wigs have a private dining room in Cavallino, F1 drivers have memorabilia all over the walls in Montana). Retro Gusto = Fabulous I took my wife and kids here on my trip to Maranello. One word: wow. We were greeted warmly by the owner, Enzo and was seated in a very classy dining room but without any pretentious overtones. What would transpire was a few hours of culinary bliss. It was recommended we follow the evening's tasting menu and we happily obliged to being our journey to new frontiers for our taste buds. For the kids, they ordered child-friendly dishes of pasta with meat sauce. Appetizer First, they brought out the kid's dinner's first which shows you they care about the kids - they gulped it up quickly and felt it was the best pasta they had while in Italy. (we spent three days in Venice and ate at nine other restaurants at this point). For my wife and I, we got: Flan Broccoli Heavenly - a delicious combination of creamy flavor and great texture - perfect for those seeking a perfect balance of savory and silky lightness. Cheese Poached breast of goose Very robust and a great juxtaposition between the full flavor of the meat and the light touch of the cheese - a delight ob both texture and flavor White onion omelet A great companion to the Flan Broccoli, light and fluffy and yet a bit more punch to be a wonderful canvas for the Flan First Course Flaky Lasagna Perfect consistency, flavor, and texture. The crust was baked perfectly - the flavors were evenly matched for the robust meat within - A+ Pasta with Asparagus and Truffle Pow-great companion for the Lasagna, delicate yet - full bodied - again, another winner Second Course Thinly sliced tenderloin with Herb Crusted Potatoes - The meat was amazing - very delicate, yet full of flavor. The sauce was an excellent consistency; the potatoes were evenly cooked with the herbs and spices fully embedded. My wife and I were very happy! Desert Pana Cotta Lemon Whip Cream Flan I usually don't like Lemon in my desert, but I couldn't get enough of the Lemon Whip cream! What a delight, it was a great finish to a great meal. What made me surprised was how reasonable the price was all in all. I've eaten at places like French Laundry, and I can say that I was delighted with the service and the price was fair at 120 euros for wine, 2 FULL COURSE means, and two kids meals. What a bargain. Spent the day in Maranello, or the land of the Ferrari. Our plan was to frequent one of the restaurants of Formula One greats like Schumacher, but when they were 'too booked' to serve us, we wandered into Retro Gusto restaurant where the owner, Enzo, gave us the meal of our lives. He was so touched that we stopped on our honeymoon that he wouldn't let us leave until we had a carafe of limoncello and sent us with a bottle of wine. We discovered this hidden gem while visiting the Ferrari Museum with our children and another family. It is a short walking distance from the museum. The ambiance was elegant yet welcoming, the food was exceptional (one of the best meals we had while on holiday in Italy) and the owner and his wife (the chef) were genuinely friendly and accommodating. This place is phenomenal! We arrived and the owner greeted us and told us that the menu changes daily, for keeping only fresh items available. He asked us if we were vegetarian or not. We are not. In a town that is over-run by tourist only pilgrimage to car factories, Retro Gusto is a pleasant reprieve. The first good meal I have ever had in Maranello. Enzo is a great host, his wife is an amazing cook. We were traveling as a family with kids, they took care of the kids, made sure they had great pasta to eat. As for adults, just relax and let Enzo and his group take care of you. If you want to be picky, you can choose your choice from the menu. But the real experience is to let them bring you their choice for the evening. You won't be disappointed. I won't bore you with the details of the food, because their specials are ever changing. All I can tell you is that this is a foodie delight, great ingredients and excellent preparation delivered over several courses in a nice atmosphere. Don't rush, you're in for a treat! read more

What a gem. This subterranean find served superb vegetarian (and non vegetarian) food. We had our best pasta in Italy here - homemade tortellini with butter sauce and a liberal shaving of truffles on top. Fried egg, bacon and truffle appetizer. Nice music. Friendly staff. And you can see the Ferrari museum right nearby. No from for dessert! read more
