    Reubens on Baker Street

THE place to go for corned beef ('salt beef' to the locals) in London. This place does it just as good as anything in New York. Sadly, the rye bread is a little lacking, reminding me of the texture (though not the taste) of Wonder Bread. Note: cash or debit card only. Also, because it's a strict kosher restaurant, there's no swiss cheese on your roast beef sandwich. It's the law. :-)

I rarely get to chow down Jew style like I did at Reubens. They had literally every delicacy from my childhood for me to ooh and ahh over, including the motherlode of all Jewy greatness -- gefilte fish. My grandmother took the recipe for her homemade gefilte fish to the grave, so it is my proverbial "madeleine." Just one taste of a great gefitle can send me reeling back in time to my grandma's dining room table surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins during our holiday family meet-ups. So when I spotted not one, but two kinds of gefilte at Reuben's I knew what I had to order. For variety sake, I chose the deep fried gefilte fish which I'd never seen before and it was amazing. Not greasy at all, the fish was the perfect consistency, delicately flavored and presented in elegant slices along with a ramekin of incredible homemade horseradish. Even my non-Jewish dining partners tried it and loved it, which is quite a statement. Every thing else we had at our table --from schnitzel and corned beef to hummous, beet salads and latkes -- was fantastic. Even though we enjoyed a 10% reduction thanks to their Yelp check-in offer, my one critique (and therefore the four instead of 5 stars) was the fact that they accept only cash, not easy when you're paying for a table of ten.

    Chicken schnitzel

We popped in here for lunch on Colleen C's recommendation. I was a bit unsure as to how the place worked - here's my summary: join the end of the line, grab a tray and make your choice. I'd spied chicken schnitzel as we entered so I had to go for that. It was a little pricey (around £11) but it was worth it - it was nearly the size of the plate. They'll bring your food out to your table so don't stand around waiting (like we did!). The seating area is pretty casual and relaxed. Your meal is brought out to you so make sure you pick up cutlery when you're ordering. I really liked the chicken schnitzel, nicely crispy with a really tasty chicken breast inside. It came with a salad which I avoided but it looked nice and fresh. This place was great. Comfortable, relaxed, friendly and tasty food. You also get 10% off for checking in - the staff knew about this deal and seemed excited to have a bunch of Yelpers in. So make sure you use it! I'd definitely come back here as everyone who ate here (all 8 of us) were happy/overjoyed with their meals. Pretty great result in my opinion.

Heed to the advice on almost all other reviews for Reubens and stick to the upper-floor deli. Land early for lunch, or very late, for the place is super busy during peak lunch hours. Onto the food then--anything from the sandwiches portion of the menu is sure to leave you (a) full and (b) content. The meat is amazing, whatever it be. I generally stick to salt beef on rye with mustard. But a shoutout must go to the schnitzel, which is outstanding. Unlike a lot others I have had, this one's still moist on the inside--perfectly breaded and seasoned. It's a party in your mouth! And a mention to the humble chips. They are gorgeously thick cut, yet crunchy on the outside--a perfect accompaniment to the sandwiches. Nice place, warm people!

Best salt beef sandwich (aka corned beef in the U.S.). Hand carved piping hot. To die for. I've been back for the third time this month.

A Reuben sandwich is pricey here, but the quality of the meet and rye bread makes it so worth it.

Their salt beef (corned beef to us Yanks) is nicely seasoned, not fatty, and possibly the best I've had.

So upon entering the store, I was immediately expecting the classic 'deli snobbery' experience. You know when you go to an authentic Deli where the staff give you the cold stare if you take too lon to order or don't know exactly what you want. Much to my surprise, I was welcomed in a very warm manner. I asked for a selection of meats, and seriously thought this would be the point where they'd start snapping, but nope, again the lovely lady offered a range of sample slices for me to try! Woohoo! To cut a long story short, I came out a happy girl! Lina Stores can keep there over-priced food, along with their moody staff, I'm sticking with my new bestie Camisa & Sons...! P.S. Could have sworn I spotted the 'Son' of Camisa & Sons working in the back room...

I love the '& Son' on the sign - gives the place a sense of continuity and history The sight of all those hams hanging up as you enter the store is enough to set the cookery brain and the stomach going. There is then the main counter with Italian cheeses galore and some deli items and home made pasta. There is also the full range of tinned and dried goods. The dry pasta from here is better than the fresh stuff from supermarkets. In Italy, they believe the pasta is the star of the dish and the sauce is just there to coat it, not drown it but for that philosophy to work, you need high quality ingredients I left with some pancetta, ham and mini mozzarellas

Oh my giddy arm, I cannot believe that a place in London exists where they would let me order food, eat it and then let me leave without paying (due to not having enough cash on me), trusting me to come back later after I had run my errands and gotten to a cash point!!!! Even when I offered up the change that I did have, they said I could just hang on to it and then pay the bill in full later if I wanted to! Set right on the corner of West End Lane and Mill Lane, David's is a family run business in the perfect location, with lots of seating, both inside and outdoors, with an awning to cover it, and plants surrounding the front area, separating you from the street a little. This would be the perfect place to come for breakfast/brunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The menu is extensive, with lots of meze options, as well as sandwiches, bagels, salads, pies cakes and cupcakes (the woman next to me ordered a small meze selection with pitta - I can't imagine how big the large option would have been!). I opted for a salt beef bagel (which came with a pickle and coleslaw), which if I am completely honest, didn't really do it for me, BUT I should have known this from the start, as this place just didn't look Jewish enough to satisfy my salt beef bagel standards... My cappuccino was good - nice and frothy. I was also pleased that they have the option of skinny or regular. It's nice that they have a big pile of newspapers and magazines to browse too - handy if you are on your own and don't have any reading material with you. In all honesty, I probably would award this place 3 stars for my bagel (and the fact that at £4.50 I think it was too expensive), but for overall service, atmosphere and enjoyability of experience it gets full marks. David's is Deli(ghtful) and I will be back!
