I actually stumbled upon this place by accident. Was at the bank and realised how close I was to Chipotle, but saw this place and was happy to abort the original mission. There was a queue, so clearly quite popular. The menu is fairly simple, but you end up seeing all the food before the menu. There was a huge slab of beef on the counter... part of me wants to know if I can order a whole one to take home :)
Anyway, I wasn't sure how big the regular and the large were, so I ordered the large and figured if it was too big, I could save it as a snack for the commute home. It turns out that the large is about the size I thought the regular would be. I ordered the salt beef and it comes on Rye with mustard and pickles (gherkins). They do have a meal deal... sandwich, crisps, and drink for £8. I just had a sandwich and it came in just over £7.
I got it back to the office and the first couple of bites were wonderful. I'm not a fan of Rye bread, but it goes well with the salt beef. The beef was tender although not as strong in flavour as I have had elsewhere. A few bites in I got a blob of mustard... OMG I thought my face was going to melt off! The last time I made this mistake was when I put English mustard on a sausage while I was at a Christmas market and I thought I was going to die. To me it tasted more of horseradish than mustard, which was disappointing because I'm not a fan of horseradish. After that, I had trouble tasting anything else, so I ended up taking the beef off of the bread and scraping the rest of the mustard off. Next time... yes I'll be back because it is a delicious sandwich, no mustard and if you have a delicate mouth, you should be careful of the mustard too! read more
