It is close to many nice businesses in Burien so it's perfect for travelers and visitors from out of town. There is lovely carpeting and woodwork. It just gives you a nice, warm feeling. The construction is mainly of brick and the interior is spartan but warm. The "sanctuary" has rows of woodwork pews and a grand organ and space for a large choir. Stake conferences are held here.

This is such a fun church building. It's the original Seattle Stake Center. It was built in the…read more70's and the chapel has all these different colored glass windows along the roof. The bathrooms have dark red 1 inch tiles along the whole thing. It looks classy! Behind back is the Stake President's office, with a separate entrance. The family history center (open to the public) is in the back too. Lots of parking, meetings at 9am, 11am, and 1pm every Sunday. Visitors welcome! The 1pm congregation is Polynesian so they speak their own language. You've got to hear them harmonize, their singing is unreal! Goosebumps every time I listen. They do have a translator and headsets available for people who only speak English, so don't be shy! There are also youth (ages 12-18) activities here Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 7-8:30pm.

I first visited last year because my partner and I were looking for a church that cared about…read moresocial justice and would support our same-sex relationship. Before walking though the doors, I heard about St. Luke's homeless programs and that the church lost 90% of its membership around 6 years ago when it moved forward with the Episcopal Church, ordaining and performing marriages of LGBTQ folks-- and has slowly been building its membership back up. From the first moment, I saw that the community is loving, varies in age, curious in their faith, and justice-concerned. They literally whooped in celebration when my partner and I announced our engagement. I really enjoy the succinct, rewarding, affecting sermons--my partner particularly loves the weekly communion and the opportunity to volunteer in the kitchen. They offer breakfast to the homeless from 7-9am Monday through Friday. It's powered largely by the passion for service of elderly parishioners - especially those who don't get bogged down in church politics and simply work to serve the poor.

But if you…read morework downtown, are open to the Christian perspective, Plymouth's Wednesday Noon Jazz worship service provides a wonderful mid-week oasis of peace and contemplation. The service starts at noon with and finishes up at 12:45 so it's easy to fit into a lunch hour. Music is by the Plymouth Trio, featuring Murl Allen Sanders on piano, Phil Sparks on bass and Susan Pascal on vibrophone - doing jazz arrangement of hymns (some of which are really interesting!) and other music. There is a scripture reading, a prayer, and mediation (short sermon) along with the music -- which focuses on a central theme. The Plymouth sanctuary is beautiful (with nice padded pews) - and because the service is more lightly attended they is always plenty of room. If you are looking for a solitary experience it's easy to slip in and sit in the back. They do special services around major Christian holidays which are beautiful.
