The oyster aperitif shots came in a real oyster shell and were filled with mini popper boba balls. The color changing drinks were smoking and filled with nitrogen ice. There is little more depresing than having only a small group willing to put their hat in the ring for a karaoke night as several middle aged couples watch on silently as they try and think of something to say to each other. A good thing about this place are the curious out-of-towners that it attracts who are staying at the nearby hotels. Either they are often excited, wide-eyed groups enthralled by a night out in Liverpool or are the star attraction themselves as they go mental on their hols and are often up for getting involved with the locals.

It felt as if I'd blinked and it was now suddenly 5am and everyone in the outside world was slumbering soundly, with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. This is the sort of pub that is suited more for an afternoon pint. It's also the location where the founders of Saint Francis Xavier's Church met to establish their parish in 1840 so, you know, get going on any big ideas you may have.

Falling into the category of 'see and be seen' this is where all the local z-list celebrities like to hang out and pretend they're in London. I went once when it first opened and hadn't yet established a reputation, and again when someone convinced me it would be a good idea to go. When you walk in you get that red carpet feeling, and some people crane their necks to see if anyone important has just entered. The bar is long and hosts a glittering array of cocktails - let me just state at this point that I have no problem with the bar itself, just the people in it. The staff are polite if not overtly friendly, and the drinks are good, if you can afford more than one. However, it's not somewhere I would ever think of going to on a night out. At least not until I get that radical surgery and liposuction I've always wanted.....

Apparently the food is good here but it looks overpriced. Unless you're modelesque, orange and wearing designer clothing you probably won't experience good manners or respect.
