Waiting in line outside for the 2016 Record Store Day releases.

Wonderful record store. I love the look of their location on Hertel, love the feel of the store in general. Albums are sorted alphabetically and by genre, making things easy to find if they're there. The albums I've bought from here have all been in great condition, and they're typically at a very decent price, depending on the album and its current popularity. The staff is always helpful and accommodating, greeting you when you enter the store, and willing to help you if you're looking for something specific. So far I've only left Revolver with albums that I hadn't been looking for when I got there, but am more than glad to add to my collection. They restock every week, and are always posting what albums they have available on Facebook, so be sure to check out their pages!

Revolver Records was the sixth and final record store I stopped into when I was in Buffalo a few weeks ago. All things considered--pricing, selection, listening station availability, friendliness of the staff/owner, condition of the records--I'd have to say this is the very best of the 17 record stores I visited on my road trip across upstate New York. I ended up finding so many LPs here, Phil had to give me a box to carry them away instead of a bag. The most I paid was $15 (François Hardy and a Blackwell LP), but most LPs were in the $3 to $8 range. There was an incredible amount of disco in the Revolver bins; I gleaned a few real gems from that section, along with two LPs by Jay & the Americans, a real nice calypso record, the French release of the "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" soundtrack, and more. If you're in Buffalo and you're into rare and interesting music on vinyl at great prices and you don't stop in at Revolver Records to have a look, well then you deserve whatever you don't get.

Always great finds at Revolver! Wasn't looking for these but have to have them! Gotta love record shopping.

Finally studio album by the legendary Chuck Berry.

And if you stick around browsing long enough, he'll tell you incredible stories about famous musicians and his friends in the business. The atmosphere in his store is like no other. Wayne takes pride in the memorabilia he has on the walls and shelves, as he should! Each piece he collects has a story that's worth hearing. The walls are covered in artwork by local artists, concert posters of famous bands who performed locally, and some really fun stuff too, like a drawing by Bono that his friend gave him! Cool Beat has an awesome collection of vinyl. Both new and old and all different genres. The store is super organized and every artist/ record was easy to find. Wayne is always working on getting new music in so always check back in from time to time to find something new. He also sells cds, 45s, posters, and other retro Buffalo/ music related items. His store seriously has a great collection and his prices are extremely fair in comparison to other record stores in the area. He also has a stamp card to get $5 off when you spend $50. All in all, Cool Beat is hands down the best place to come if you truly appreciate music and want to support local business.

Having read about Doris Records online before my trip to Buffalo--that they've been around since…read more'62 and sell jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, etc.--I was pretty excited to check this place out, along with some of the other record stores in town. When I finally got there I was a little surprised to find out that Doris Records doesn't actually sell any records at all, though they had in the past. They do have a pretty big selection of CDs though, so I figured I'd look around for a bit. Eventually I found a great collection of gospel music from the '50s and '60s by Swan Silvertones, which made a major contribution to the musical soundtrack of my road trip around the state over the next few weeks. I don't know if it's ever been part of their plan, but it would be awesome if this shop had a few bins of used vinyl for sale. I bet they'd get people bringing in some pretty incredible stuff. And then the name of the store would make more sense too. It also wouldn't hurt to be a little bit friendlier to the folks who drop in. I'm not the type that needs to be coddled at all, but I was the only customer in the store, and I got the impression that they really wished that I would hurry up and leave. But you know, they've been around since 1962, so they must be doing something right.
