This is your average grocery store, except one bonus feature - a single bin between the Lindt…read morechocolate and the liquor section that contains heavily discounted miscellaneous items such as -- drinking chocolate powder from Ghana, veggie bouillon, sauerkraut (obvi), mustard, gigantic tubes of mayo the length of my forearm, etc. there's also a general household section that actually is cheaper than the 1 Euro store downstairs for some items, so I recommend checking it out before beelining to the 1 euro store for goodies like candles, nails, twine, etc. Most of the shop however is bizarrely organized (why are the eggs not close to other dairy products...) and there aren't that many options for things, which perhaps is a bit of a relief. I have discovered that the "international" section is much larger than I believed and you can find a huge can of chickpeas from Indonesia or something that is a much better deal than buying the REWE brand chickpeas. Also the ja! Brand is awesome for prices but tends to give you less quantity, apart from the rice. No other brand carries as much rice. The cashiers are less sad than at places like Aldi, but they are also very busy because the place is always popping with people. Will note that the candy section in the a club corner feels dark and has a cool cult vibe, that vibe of when you are willing to buy 100 count rolls of chocolate cookies and don't care if others see you trolling the discount candy section

Instead of inspecting it right in the middle of the thoroughfare, I stepped aside into a corner in its cafe seating area to get out of everyone's way. Not a word of a lie, I was not loitering and only there for a few seconds, before a cafe assistant immediately told me to leave the area as it was for 'Customers dining only'. I was not occupyying the seating area and explained I was quickly checking my receipt and will leave immediately. The cafe assistant was indifferent and repeated the area was for dining customers only and if I needed to check my receipt to go and check elsewhere! I wouldn't mind as much if the cafe area was bursting at its seams and my groceries were sprawled across the tables and occupying unnecessary space. The said cafe area was completely empty!!! Not a customer in sight. How ridiculous! No standing in the five foot exclusion zone not even for a few seconds. So whose way am I in exactly? Let's ask its customers shall I? No wait, there aren't any to ask! Strange how Rewe was happy to accept my business a minute ago. Well, I've conceded it's a classic case of post business 'You don't exist' syndrome. Needless to say, I shall be reciprocating, I won't be parting cash at this supermarket again.

I don't know why, but the checkout lady took all my vegetables away and brought them back with individual price stickers on them. Very strange. I don't speak German so I have no idea what that was for. Note: if you're trying to cross Wandsbeker Chaussee to get to the store, just go through the Wandsbek U1 tunnel under the street since there's no crosswalk.

After about a few weeks of closure it reopened and boy is it beautiful. You don't normally think of grocery stores as beautiful but this one certainly is. You will notice when you walk in you are created with the smell of and visions of bread and sweats at the bakery. After you make your way through that distraction you are immerse in the land of produce. The vibrant colors, the smells of those green leafy things we call vegetables, the perfect amount mist on the most perfect ripened fruit. It is hard to ignore. You are then greeted with the new salad bar with a selection of the stores finest. Winding your way through the rest of the store is easy, as if you're following the yellow brick road. You will find all the fresh products on the outer edge of the store and the remaining items right in the center. When finally get through the maze of foods you will enter the wine and beverage area. Isles of wine, beer, soda and more. It is then off to the check outs. Anyone who knew this location before knew how slow it was due to the fact of only a couple of check outs. Not now, there are 7 check outs and they tend to be much quicker now. Your in and out and all with a smile on your face.
