Welcome once again Sports Yelpers to the Tour De Scott, i.e. spots where I have run around sweating…read moreit up old school. Tennis was my Sport de Premiere for many a year, and I even returned from my self imposed retirement for a couple of seasons a few years back. Of all of the community Tennis courts around my area, the Gilbert Street court would be my favourite. Is it a good surface? Nah, not particularly. I mean, it is ok, but there are definately better around. Does it have a bbq, play ground etc.? Nup....it is just a court......but it is a) on its own, b) has its own car park, c) has plenty of shade (huge gum trees) and d) is right on the river. For me this is the perfect community Tennis Court! You don't have to chase balls, worry about other peoples games and those who know where it is (not that many) just drive on rather than wait for you to finish! Not the most kid friendly (they would probably be alright down the river....glug glug) but I don't have kids, so I really don't care!

This place basically got me in shape after too many years lived in an unhealthy state of idleness…read more Ingredients: - Four humans - Four racquets - One tennis ball Method: - Have all the humans run clockwise around the tennis court. - Have the humans alternate hitting the ball across to each other. - Get really, really tired. - Rinse and repeat. Product: - Awesome fitness levels. Awesome fun. (P.S. There's probably a name for the game described above. Tennis Round Robin, or something. I dunno the science of it, I just do it.)

Every now and then I find a quiet suburban playground and hit 'kid' mode. I wish I had a playground…read morelike this in my neighbourhood. It may be a little old, but it's fun, engaging and challenging for some (you could probably add me to that list lol). When I was there, there were a couple of 13-14 year olds on the playground. They had ridden there scooters here and were obviously just looking for somewhere to chill out and have some fun. I can't say they would have been using all the equipment as it would be intended, but they put their spin on the equipment's uses. There is a sheltered table/chair area with a BBQ but it is a bit of a walk to the playground. You couldn't supervise little kids here and cook at the same time. The playground is fully fenced which is always nice to see. The City of Holdfast Bay don't have the tennis courts listed as public use courts. Perhaps that is because they are also used by the tennis club. When the club isn't using them, they are there for all of us. There's not a great deal of shade over the playground. Trees dotted throughout the park do provide some shade in some areas but apart from that the most shade is at the BBQ area. I couldn't see a drinking fountain but there should be a tap near the BBQ. I could be wrong....it happens occasionally ;-) *Dogs allowed* *BBQ* *Sheltered table/chair* *Fully fenced playground* *Tennis courts*

The tennis courts are the saving grace of this park, because it is uuuuugly…read more Call me shallow, but where's the green? Well, of course there's plenty, BUT, even the green isn't especially... pretty. And no kid wants to play in the dirt or the mud. No, wait, I've lied. Allow me to rephrase. No kid's parent wants their kid playing in the dirt or the mud. I didn't use the tennis courts, but know that I COULD made me feel as fuzzy inside as the outside of the tennis ball I didn't have. Although, t'be fair about the whole mud thing: the kids'll probably be on the playground. In fact, all of them were. You know why? Because there's mud and dirt everywhere else.

If you are a toddler and you haven't experienced Orphanage Park yet, grab the nearest adult to you…read moreand tell them to take you here! You are guaranteed to have fun! This completely fenced playground is entirely rubber floored under the play equipment. There are BBQs both inside the fenced are and outside the fenced area. There are tennis courts and drinking fountains. Across the 'driveway' there are toilets and a basketball hoop. The only reason why I didn't give this park a five star rating is that I usually like to see equipment designed for all ages where as this area is definitely directed at the little ones. Taking photos was a little hard. There are ALWAYS people here and I didn't want to be intrusive. Hopefully you can get a fairly good idea from the photos included. *Dogs not allowed in fenced area* *Drinking fountains* *Tennis courts* *Table/chair areas (some sheltered)* *BBQ's*

It's somewhat ironic that a former orphanage - not the happiest of places for kids, if Dickens is…read moreto be believed - should be home to one of Adelaide's best playgrounds. There's lots of shade sails, tables, benches and trees. On a warm summer's morning all of these were greatly appreciated. It's fenced, and there are some creative pieces of play equipment, including a big tyre swing and boat which were both very popular with the smaller members of our party. There are toilets, taps, and even a tennis court, with plenty of parking nearby. It's easy enough for the grown ups to chill out and chat because the kids are so busy enjoying themselves. The only negative is that is can get very busy. On the other hand, it gets busy because it's good, so I hesitate to deduct a star for that. Recommended, especially for the under 8s.
