The entire play area is rubber floored and is designed for children 5 years and younger. It looks like such a fun place to be. There's a really large lawn area within the park, great for frisbee throwing or kicking a ball. The playground does get some shade from the trees around it. There's a bike track that runs behind this pretty little park. My only concern is its on a lake so the little kids need constant supervision as the playground is missing a gate, but the plus of this is the duckies, swans and other native birds. What this area is lacking is some shade. My goodness I felt hot and uncomfortable just looking at the place. I would recommend adults to check the equipment before little ones get their hands onto equipment that is too hot. I am definitely a fan of this playground but something held me back from giving it five stars…read more Perhaps it was the dated equipment, perhaps it was the lack of equipment designed for the much older children, perhaps it's the lack of shade over the playground, or perhaps it was the long distance to the toilets, I'm not sure but let me tell you what's great about this place. This playground is fully fenced and the entire space has a rubber flooring. There is a drinking fountain, tap, table/chair and BBQ all within close proximity to the playground. Unfortunately there isn't any shelter/shade over the table but with the massive gum trees in the park, there is some shade depending on the time you visit. This is a great place to come but for me, it slightly falls short of my 'destination' playground status. Maybe I'm having a bad day lol. Of course, there could, perhaps, be a little more shade. We're in Australia, after all, not Siberia. But, regardless, this is a nice park. If it's your local park, it's worth being proud of.

Perhaps the only downfall (and not a huge one at that) is that it butts right up against the train line so every now and then you have to yell for about 15 seconds. There's no shade cloth over the play equipment but most of the tables are in the shade and there's naturally a lot of trees in the area so it could just be in the middle of the day that it gets direct light. But there's a reason it's called a 'playground' and not a 'park'. There's a great variety of play equipment. It's very, very difficult to get bored with the play equipment here. And if you manage it, challenge achieved! Then you can go straight back onto being interested again. Because of the focus on play equipment, it may seem there's a lot less to do for parents and other attendees. Perhaps this is true. Unless you're a badass like me, who likes to ruin the fun all the kids are having by having more fun yourself. And the toilets are okay too, I guess.

Gloria Jeans and The Coffee Club are right in front of it. The idea of this playground is for the adults to take a break from their shopping, enjoy a cup of coffee and let their kids play in a safe environment. Whenever I walk past I notice that it's always full of kids, and they're always having a blast! It's a great playground in a great location. Everyone needs a break sometimes.

Yet, I'm not entirely convinced that one could consider it a foreshore reserve, especially since there are now a number of apartments located between it and the beach. Yet, it does have some facilities, including restrooms, and it is also next to the marina as well. It is a shame however that they removed the replica ship.

Wigley Reserve at Glenelg must suffer from the most mis-pronounced name of any park or reserve in…read moreAdelaide. I don't know why but many people insist on calling it Wrigley Reserve. There's actually nothing wriggly about it! It was named after H.R. Wigley who was the Resident Magistrate of Adelaide and a resident of Glenelg back in the 1840's. Mis-pronunciations aside, visit Wigley Reserve any morning around 6 in the morning and you'll find the place a hive of activity. It's a favoured venue for 'bootcamp' training aka people who like to be flogged by a trainer early in the mornings. There's a collection of exercise equipment there that gets plenty of use at other times of the day as well. Located at the end of Anzac Highway and on the corner of Adelphi Terrace, the reserve is on the shore of the Patawalonga right near the river's mouth. The Pat as its known by locals can get a bit stinky at times but this doesn't seem to deter the hive of activity that takes place on the reserve. Over the years its been the venue for events like the start of the Walk to Cure Diabetes, Lance Armstrong's Twitter Ride, and a gathering place for car enthusiasts to name but a few. It is after all a big space and is open for hire to all sorts of people for all sorts of community events.

This is a recently upgraded playground in the trendy little Croydon shopping strip that is well…read moreshaded with trees, has a good fence all the way around and the major features of a train station directly next to it. Why is this a feature? Well this is a great place to come and teach your toddler to look at trains, what they are, how they operate and what happens around a railway crossing where the big flashing gantry comes down to stop the cars from going. The train is very visible from the playground. Also there's a theme in the playground that runs along the train line (pun intended) so that you can play on a story book type train that is stationary and looks like it couldn't really hurt a fly, and still observe the real train coming and going. This is a NO DOG playground - so leave the dog at home this time, because dogs don't understand trains or toddlers quite the way we'd like them to, and they require special instructions; so do not bring the dog. I repeat, do not bring the dog. I think it is brilliant because the train and train line is a dangerous thing for kids. It is such a fascinating place and seems perfect to walk along. There was even children recently killed on a train line, so it is worth thinking about an outing or two, on the train to this very playground for a picnic and a watch. What do trains do? They stop at the station, people get on, and then they chuff off. The cars stop for them and people stop for them. There are even elements of trains in the seating under the shady trees so you can point to something and say "That's a bit of the track that the trains run on," so you have a lot to learn as a grown up and as a kid in this very special playground. Yay. Or rather I should say "Whoohoo!"

This playground is split into a large section with a nice shady seating area, and then a smaller section for toddlers, complete with train to climb on. They have a very fun see saw to play on here as well as a basketball hoop and a barbecue area and plenty of space. Unfortunately there's no toilets here, so you have to go down to the shops if your little one wants to go. Otherwise a great place to relax and have a swing and watch the Choo Choo Trains go chugging by.

The train is obviously designed for younger children and the other play equipment is used mostly by older children, only for the fact that there's a lot of climbing things. There aren't even steps up to the slide. The elderly gentleman in the photos wanted the children in his care to be "Super Stars" hehehe. That's the only reason why I've included the photo of them on the swings. He was quite insistent that I take the photo. Sweet man :-) There is some tree shade here but don't rely on that. Depending on what time of day you visit, there may be no shade over any of the equipment. The playground area is fully fenced. No dogs allowed. *No dogs allowed*

This is really evidence of the value of the local Council in this area; not just a Memorial Garden…read morebut a place you can bring your dog on a leash, a place you can have a barbecue and a place you can sit quietly and have a picnic or watch the kids play in a covered (sun smart) playground. Not every area has something as lush as this, and yes it is directly behind the Council Chambers, but it is also close to a couple of schools and Churches and the Library is next door so it is in a very good place for what it is. I am all in favour of green spaces that are central and likely to be used just as I am in favour of the little reserve in the suburban street.
