I retained Margaret through ARAG to assist with child support, custody, and an updated visitation schedule. While she completed the required filings and paperwork over the course of the case, there were several issues with communication, preparation, and attention to detail that ultimately led me to seek new counsel. One of the most significant concerns was that income information was not filed with the court before child support was determined. As a result, I did not receive retroactive child support that I believe may have been available had the information been submitted on time. Communication was also difficult throughout my representation. Emails often took days to receive a response, and phone calls and voicemails frequently went unanswered. When appointments were scheduled, I often found myself initiating the call rather than receiving one. In court, I felt that my attorney was generally reactive rather than proactive and did not demonstrate a deep familiarity with the details of my case unless directly questioned by the judge. During a later custody matter that proceeded toward trial, I became increasingly concerned about preparation. Important deadlines for trial briefs and witness disclosures were approaching, yet I had not been contacted regarding what information would be needed. Despite my repeated requests for guidance, communication remained limited until the day before documents were due, at which point I was asked to provide information on short notice. I did everything possible to gather and submit what was requested, but I was left wondering why these preparations had not begun earlier. After retaining new counsel, I learned that my trial briefing contained statements indicating I was willing to give up sole custody, which was never my position. I also discovered that not all of my intended witnesses had been included. These errors were extremely concerning given the importance of the issues at stake. Every client has different expectations, but for a custody case involving a child, I expected timely communication, thorough preparation, attention to detail, and accurate representation of my position. Unfortunately, that was not my experience, and I ultimately chose to hire different counsel. read more

This man needs to be investigated regarding immoral, unethical and threatening conduct. He was literally screameding at me, to the point where I had to repeatedly ask him to stop shouting. I couldn't ask a simple question or provide pertinent information without being completely verbally berated. He also intimidated, coerced and threatened me into giving 5 star reviews on multiple platforms before he would even begin to work on my documents. He told me I had to do it at that time and immediately send him a screenshot. I reluctantly gave the review and when I finally received the documents in an untimely manner, all the names are misspelled, venues are incorrect and large portions of pertinent legal information that requires an attorney was completely left out. I understand this COVID is delaying a lot of events and I take this factor into consideration in all aspect of my experience. Prior to Covid happening, I started to work with Margaret Reyes firm. This is my first experience dealing with Family Law attorney or attorney in general. Unfortunately, I did not have the best experience with this firm. Peter was my initial attorney I worked with up until the firm went their own separate ways and Mrs. Reyes took over my case. I started to use their service in mid or late of January 2020. Frankly, it was an uneasy and awful experience because there was a huge lack of professionalism and communication from Peter and the staff. I'll give Mrs. Reyes credit for her good communication in comparison to Peter, and her professionalism was slightly better than Peter's. Peter told me to send in my case documents via email and it will be served by one of the firm's server to the other party. When I emailed the office to inquire about the status of my case and to make sure the other party was served, because it was days and over a week since I emailed them the case documents that needed to be served. The response was with attitude and along the lines of, you're not the only case we have. Well, that sounds like my case is not a priority or of any significance to the Reyes Law Office and they just keep taking my money. Peter did apologize on behalf of his secretary who sent the email with attitude. I wasn't too happy about the response and asked for some courtesy and simple communication so I wasn't left in the dark wondering what's going on and accepted his apology. Fast forward to the initial DV case, I had to find out from the bailiff that I have no case filed because the party was NOT served, no thanks to Reyes' Law Office. I had to stay for the other party's DV case. I was coached by Peter to ask for a continuum and to schedule it on a day that Mrs. Reyes has availability.Guess what happened at the second hearing, last minute notice that they cannot make it because, again money was an issue so I was left to defend myself again. However, in today's email Mrs. Reyes' excuse as to why she wasn't able to appear and represent me at the DV case/s is because, per Mrs. Reyes, I wanted to file my own DV and wanted it done immediately. False. I followed all direction provided by the firm. I worked with their schedule and inconvenience myself for them. I really dislike people and business that cannot take constructive feedback or take ownership of their mistakes. I'd have a whole lot of respect for the firm and not be so upset if they would simply take ownership on their lack of effective counsel and actions on my cases. I had to save myself in the other party's DV case and I was able to get the case dismissed without the presence of an attorney from Margaret Reye's Law Office. Reye's law firm was concern that I was going through my 20 hours too quick and the estimated worth of 20 hours of legal service, amounting to $6,000-$7,000 in estimation from Peter, was not enough for them to file and handle my cases-even when they failed to file documents that they are paid for and should be handling, instead they send me to file all my documents myself. Fast forward to today. Again, money was a concern for Reyes' Law Office. What really pushed me over the edge today was when I was given the option to either show up in person ( which I don't understand because they what they heck am I paying them for of they're not doing their job?) for today's court hearing at 8:30am, or I can pay $95 for a telephonic call for the firm to represent me, which again, they are already getting paid through my legal plan for their counsel (which as been ineffective counsel from the beginning till now). Two things that doesn't make sense is that, one, Mrs. Reyes says I'd have to show up in court IN person....but from what I do know due to COVID, LA county courts have been closed and are still closed. Question is, how was I suppose to go to a court hearing when court is closed? Frankly, I did not understand where she's trying to go with that. All cases are conduct via phone or video conference as is already. Therefore, when I confronted her and asked for the refund of $95 and articulated in an email why I feel that it's unethical for her to take my money for something she's getting paid for by my legal service and all courts are being conducted by phone or video conferencing, why is she inquiring more money from me and trying to BS me? It all makes her and her firm look shady. I am a person of word, if a business has good ethic and service, I'll help t promote their service by providing their information to other people seeking the service. However, there are some business and lawyers out there who only think about the greens and don't have your best interest. Reyes' Law Office did me the greatest favor when they said they wanted to part ways with me. Phew, one less headache and my pocket will be much fuller. read more

This so-called "law firm" is a sham. I was referred to them by the Orange County Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service because I needed a Vietnamese-speaking attorney to assist my wife and me in trying to save our marriage. I merely wanted a consultation. When I called the office on October 11th and explained my wishes to the woman who answered the phone, she said she would call me back by the end of the day about setting an appointment. She did not identify herself. She did not call me back. The next morning, I called again. A man answered the phone this time. He was apparently the Vietnamese-speaking attorney, although he also did not identify himself. When I explained my request, he stated he was declining to accept "my case." Actually, I had no case. When I asked why, he stated cryptically, "We both know why." I had no idea what he was talking about. Later in the day, I called the office again to learn the identity of the man I had spoken with earlier. This time, the woman answered. Once again, she did not identify herself. I made a simple request of her. I asked her to provide me with the name of the Vietnamese-speaking attorney in the office. She declined to give it to me, but said she would check with someone and call me back. I told her I would wait on the line for the information. She declined to allow me to do so, and hung up the phone. I never received a call back. I believe the Orange County Bar Association and the State Bar of California should be informed of the malfeasance of this firm. It is a very sensitive time for my wife and me in our marriage. We came to the Reyes Law Firm for help in a Superior Court civil case. We were being sued by a big cheat on tile mile from whom we had ordered an expensive tile (paid in advance) who provided us with a lesser quality product. I put it in dispute with my credit card company and won, so the guy sued me. I hope you never find yourself in a situation where you are being sued. It happened to me. I would tell you I was sued wrongfully, but doesn't everybody say that? Let me tell you, it's a sucky feeling. At first I tried to represent myself, but the superior court judge that I was assigned to, at least, did not look kindly upon an in pro per defendant. Still, I spent months researching and filing documents to defend myself in superior court, a big expenditure of time, $ and energy, and very stressful. At the end of the year, my husband had an opportunity to enroll in "prepaid legal services." I thought it would be yet another waste of money, but (happily) I was wrong. I was able to obtain a list of dozens of local attorneys who participated in the plan (Hyatt, 5 stars to them too). My husband and I each phone-interviewed several. We found 2 that we thought might be good fits and interviewed both in person. From day one, Margaret and her staff were the right fit for us. Her staff are kind, knowledgeable, and responsive. Margaret is smart and cuts to the chase. She is an excellent writer, so I found all of her prepared documents to be top-notch. She is clear and concise, and sees the big picture. At trial, she was calm and logical while plaintiff's counsel was a manipulative, skilled and crafty liar. Margaret did not stoop to his level; she just presented the truth. Thankfully, the judge saw through plaintiff's bs and awarded us a judgment in our cross-complaint. But as far as for my opinion of Margaret, that was just icing on the cake. Margaret did well for us. If we had lost, it'd have been a judge-failure, not a Margaret-failure. (But I like the smell of victory!) I liked her throughout the process. I called to ask questions regarding my divorce and what to expect. When explaining to the attorney my experience and sharing the research I had found he responded that they are not in the business of talking to people and hung up. Mind you this was about a two minute conversation. This tells me this is someone who only looks at me as a dollar sign and nothing else. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would highly suggest anyone considering this firm to think twice. If this is how he thinks I can only assume he has a likeminded firm behind him. Margaret Reyes helped me modify my family trust and get my three kids' birth certificates amended after I changed my name and gender. The trust was super simple and came out great! Two quick meetings and a couple weeks and it was done. The California Department of Public Health process for your children's birth certificate modification is poorly documented. Because of this, it's really difficult to understand how to proceed. I tried filing two requests (a VS-21 and a VS-24) on my own before seeking help from Margaret Reyes. The CDPH rejected both applications for totally different reasons. Some of the people reviewing applications at the CDPH don't even understand their own process. Margaret's office didn't really help with any of that. They had tried in the past, but were unsuccessful. An email and phone exchange with state Senator Pat Bates' office got me in touch with a manager at CDPH who could help explain exactly what needed to be done. I needed to get my court ordered name change modified to include some extra language asking the CDPH to also change my name on my kids' birth certificates. Why a court order changing your name isn't sufficient to change your name everywhere is a question for CDPH. Anyways, I don't blame Margaret's office for knowing how to deal with this, as the process itself is totally broken. Once I was able to finally figure out what needed to be done, Margaret's office filed the paperwork to modify my court order with the court in San Diego county where I live. They took care of it without me ever having to go back to court in person, which was huge for me. Their petition on my behalf was granted and I got the modified court order a few weeks later. I sent it off to CDPH who eventually issued me the modified birth certificates! After 11 months, I finally have legal proof that I am still my kids' father. Without Margaret's office's willingness to stand by my side through this long process, that wouldn't have happened. Thank you! read more

I have a legal issue on guardianship with my nephew and I have legal insurance. I was referred to Margaret Reyes by my insurance and I asked my mom to call and explain the situation and make an appointment. Peter the office manager said he would try to get us an appointment for Wednesday, the day before the guardianship hearing and he would call back either that day or the following Tuesday as Monday was a holiday. We did not hear from him so my mom called Tuesday and let me know he wanted to speak with me. So we played phone tag for a bit but finally connected. He then began to berate me and tell me I was misusing my legal insurance and called me a fraud based on some misunderstanding or maybe they don't make enough off my insurance I'm not sure which. I still don't understand why if he had concerns he didn't just discuss them with me but I do know he made an already stressful situation much worse and left us without legal advice the day before the hearing. I have already reported this to my legal insurance company and will look into reporting it to the bar although I'm not sure if it is something that will interest them.
