I think it's a fair assessment after recently spending three nights in the hotel. Well, not really at the hotel - I actually got a full apartment for three nights, with a California King, full kitchen, dining area, and living room. The room was massive, especially the bathroom which was more American size than European size. All this was reasonably priced for less than $100 a night, located in the heart of Bacharach. Parking is taken care of, with the hotel owning several lots around town. The service was excellent - they speak English very well, was very accommodating, and even translated the Rüdesheim Weinfest website for us. You cannot ask for a better hotel experience than at this place. Sure the rooms are nice, but is the restaurant worth going to? This was another outstanding experience. My girlfriend were able to eat here only one night, but would've loved to eat here again if we had the time. The exterior of the restaurant is beautiful and so German. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel (which included fries and a side salad) and my girlfriend ordered one of their massive salads. Both dishes were delectable - I mean just look at the beautiful pictures. The juicy Jagerschnitsel was complemented with the thick and flavorful gravy sauce, which was perfect for dipping fries in after and complemented nicely with a light side salad. My girlfriend's salad was just a menagerie of flavors - croutons, romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, blueberries, grapes and nuts in a maybe-it's-vinaigrette-maybe-it's-heaven dressing. We also ordered a bottle of Weingut Dr. Randolf Kauer 2014 Riesling which is harvest and made locally. Here I was thinking all Rieslings were sweet and we ended up getting a very balanced and immensely drinkable wine. Our entire meal, including the bottle of wine, was about 50 euros. Overall, from hotels to restaurant, Hotel Altkölnischer Hof has their act together. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Mrs Sybille emailed quickly to give me the info and I got a confirmation email for our room. We arrived in the afternoon and were greeted by our hosts Stefan & Sybille. Our room was upstairs on the front corner with a balcony. It is a very clean and simple room. I was concerned that the cars going by may be a problem but once I got to sleep, I didn't hear them. We chose not to have breakfast. We were provided free off-street parking. This place is clean and just perfect. I would recommend it.

The owners here are filled with smiles and speak good English which helped us with our stay. We were able to have covered parking. The walk to town is 2 or 3 minutes, very close.

We decided to pick Villa Vinum because it's location to the Altstadt (old town) and the Mosel River. We arrived early (at around 11 am) and the owner allowed us to check in early so that we could drop our stuff off and enjoy the city. The room was very large (for European rooms) with a large couch, very comfortable beds, and a separate room for the toilet/sink and then the shower separately (which is nice for getting ready in the morning.) In our room, we had a beautiful balcony of the city of Cochem. We were gone most of the day, but when we came back that night we were looking to enjoy some nice Riesling. The owner had a large wine fridge and he suggested a bottle and gave us wine glasses, so that we were able to enjoy a delicious bottle of wine in our comfy bed. The next morning, we were able to enjoy the "breakfast" part of the B&B. It was an elaborate buffet of deviled eggs, fruit, yogurt, juices, different breads and croissants. It was very delicious and much more extensive than I would have expected. We were able to check out the next day and the owner was again very friendly! The room rate was much cheaper than I would expect based on the level of service, the great breakfast and the room size/comfort. One other note is that while the owner speaks excellent English, the staff does not (which is okay since we were in Germany) but it's just something to be aware of if you do not speak German. I would highly recommend Villa Vinum for a great Bed and Breakfast experience.

Bathroom amenities included a blow dryer and shower gel. Bring your other needed items (shampoo, body lotion, etc.). We had the included free breakfast, which was so good and included everything traditionally German as well as made to order omelets and mimosas. At check out, we asked if a taxi could be called for us and the owner graciously offered to take us to the train station. We would definitely stay here again.

I had read some TA reviews about Ruedesheim and we wanted to stay there for our last night, and this was the hotel we decided to book. We didn't arrive until after dark, about 9pm, and we weren't sure how to find the hotel - our GPS kept indicating a "street" which looked more like a sidewalk right up against some restaurant tables. We finally just parked at a hotel that had a lot, and walked to the Schloss. There we were greeted by Roamy (sorry, not sure of the spelling!) who was so welcoming and helpful! He did not make us feel like idiots for not being able to find the hotel, and was very helpful showing us on a map how to get to their parking lot (yes, you did have to drive on the "street" which we thought was a sidewalk!). Their lot is small, but has one of those barrier arms that lift so that you can enter. The reality is that all lots in Germany are small, so this should not be a surprise and quite frankly, we were thrilled to have a dedicated space for our car. Back in the lobby, we were offered sparkling water or wine while we checked in, then headed up to our room. Our room was up in the bell tower, (room 31) and the bells are very pretty when they ring (which only rings from 10a-10p). This room was beyond our wildest dreams - by far the most amazing room we had stayed in our entire trip! Large room, with a canopy-style bed in the center, and a small third bed off in a side alcove. Two nice big sitting areas, and windows, windows, windows! Our bathroom was huge (seriously, I think some of our hotel rooms on our trip could have fit inside this bathroom!) A large, spacious shower plus a separate large and beautiful soaking tub which was a welcome treat! Our room also overlooked the Biergarten, and being a Saturday night they had live entertainment (very amusing to listen to "Our Way" by Frank Sinatra sung in German!) If you had small children that needed to go to sleep early I would say that it might have been too loud, but we actually enjoyed sitting in our room with the window/doors open enjoying the music. I loved that our room curtains did an excellent job of keeping the space nice and dark in the morning. We had a wonderful night's sleep, and went down to the breakfast around 9am in the "Schloss-garden". It was outdoor seating with some areas covered by a pergola type roof. Loved the fresh rolls and fruit, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We wanted to visit in the town, and to take the Seilbahn up to the monument, and were happy to discover from the front desk clerk that we were only a couple short blocks away from the base of the Seilbahn (took less than 5 minutes to walk). We were also allowed to keep our car in the parking lot until early afternoon which was also a blessing - the morning desk clerk was so nice and helpful too! The owners of the hotel are in the wine business, and we learned from the clerk that their wine shop was also just a few blocks away and they encouraged us to visit for a tasting. We went later in the morning and really enjoyed it!! They let you taste whatever wines you want, and then they took us down into their cellars which was really amazing - you can see all the casks, etc. We had to buy some wine after all that - it was quite an experience! We highly recommend a stay here - it was top of our list from our trip and we would not hesitate going back. Everything about it gave us the perfect ending to a memorable trip!

The hotel has been updated since our last stay (obviously) and was very enjoyable. Most of the rooms don't have a great view, but if you're out and about most days, you really don't need one. The beds are comfortable and have typical German bedding (with individual duvets). There was a writing desk in each room, clothes cabinet, and night stands. Plenty of room to spread out with your belongings and stay organized while traveling. The bathroom was very nice - open, light, and extremely clean. There was a rather large standing shower and well lit vanity. The hotel is three floors, and does have a tiny, slow elevator. If you don't need to take it, I wouldn't, but if you have heavy luggage or have trouble doing stairs, it'll do the job just fine. There is a parking lot on site, which we used. The spots are fairly tight, but we were able to get in and out fine. The hotel is on a one way street, so depending on your approach, don't miss where you pull into the lot! Breakfast was wonderful. There was a great spread of meats, cheeses, yogurts, eggs, rolls, fruit, etc. all typical at a German breakfast. It was a nice treat to also have smoked salmon, which doesn't normally appear on the breakfast buffets. We dined in the hotel restaurant on the second evening and wish we'd eaten here our first night as well. The menu is small and less traditionally German. During dinner, I was feeling under the weather and our server was so helpful, taking my entree back to the kitchen to keep warm while I went up to my room for medicine and to lay down for a minute. When I rejoined my family, they offered to have the chef make whatever I wanted, whether it was on the menu or not, if that would help. I kept with my original dish, a fish entree, and it was absolutely incredible. Our party enjoyed having Rudesheimer coffees for dessert (a must!), and the waitress explained all of the steps as she was making them. The location is within walking distance from the river and across the road from a nice little wine shop (Georg Breuer). The front desk was helpful for directing us on other things to do while in the area. On our departure, we needed to contact a place in Köln and the owner was great about calling for us and translating everything! I can't say enough about the wonderful service we had. If you're looking for a place to stay at in the Rhein region, look no further!

This is true in many places throughout Europe though as it was unseasonably warm and it's just hard to come by accommodations with air conditioning. By the way, Castle Marksburg was a spirited 20 minute hike up the hill from this hotel. Great location! Tchüss! P.S. Our double room was about 75€. I think the pricing here on Yelp is for the restaurant so I did not include that in my review.
