I've found it hard to find quick, marinated food that is reasonably priced in Zurich. This place (and a food truck in Opfikon) is currently filling the gap for me. A rice/noodle bowl with a choice of proteins, vegetables, sauces and herbs/spices is around CHF15 and I'm not left feeling hungry after. On being served you move along the counter, making your selection: Jasmin rice, red rice, noodles or green salad then on to the proteins: tofu, chicken satay, chicken meatballs or beef. Then there's a choice of vegetables: kale (my favourite at the moment and it's not overcooked!), sweetcorn, beans and broccoli. The are four sauces to choose from: red curry, green curry (they say it's spicy, but I don't think so), satay sauce and a tamarind vinaigrette. You have a choice of one each of the above mentioned, if you want more they charge extra. There's also eggs available for an extra charge. Then there's a choice of toppings: coriander, nuts, Asian slaw, chillis (which are actually spicy) and puffed rice. If you can't make your mind up or you're in a rush to catch a train, then there's also a choice of set meals. Saying that, it usually only takes a couple of mins to get served and when there's a queue, it moves fast!
Rice up is situated near platforms 31-34 inside the grand Zurich Hauptbahnhof (station). There's limited seating inside and a small 2-level seating area outside which, at a glance, could be mistaken for general public seats (the store name is on the wall of the seating).
I dropped a star because when it's busy it can look a bit messy, which is not great if you're strict about not mixing your veg with meat. read more
