It's kind of long, so if you don't want to read the whole thing, here is the one sentence version: Aspen Dental actively cons the community by diagnosing non-existent gum disease and trying to sell unproven treatments, and they use fear and fast talk to achieve those means along with a focus on targeting the elderly. Unless you want to commit this year's salary to solving problems you don't actually have, go see someone else. Don't. Go. To. Aspen. The Long Version I have a lot experience in security and dealing with con men, and it's still amazing to me that this operation is legal. Their whole strategy is a scam designed to sell you (unproven) treatments you don't need at incredibly high prices. I confirmed this theory with two other local dentists before I decided to leave this review. I expect greed from Blair County businessmen, but this is a different level. They are going to tell you that you have gum disease and dramatically push you towards unproven antibiotic treatments for a breezy $5,000, and your insurance won't pay for it because they know it doesn't work. I watched them lie to a senior couple about that specifically when the insurance company refused to pay for treatments they didn't need. In particular, don't trust the lady that is checking your gums at your intake. I wish I could name drop her to highlight the guilty, but I forget what it was. She is lying to you and will tell you that you're ill, scare you, sell you an overpriced toothbrush, and take home a commission. I can't tell if she believes the lies she is peddling (in other words, is unintelligent) or if she is conning people for the money, but it doesn't matter. Here's what happened: I went there because I needed to have a filling replaced. They ignored that and tried to convince me I have severe gum disease, but they didn't realize they had told me the same nonsense five years ago and none of what they said would happen ever happened. The con lady said they couldn't fill the tooth without treating my gums because it's like fixing the house's siding with a bad foundation, which is a ridiculous comparison. I would need the tooth filled either way, my mouth is not an old house. I'd bet that the middle aged lady that does the evaluations and yells numbers at you directly benefits from whatever nonsense she can sell you, because she talks fast and uses assumed consent in the same way a shark does at a pool hall. She is also unpleasant, and became more unpleasant when she realized I wasn't going to buy anything from her. Her job is to sell stuff, not care for patients, and it is very clear where her priorities are. My experience with sharks immediately told me I was dealing with a con-woman once I heard the way she talked and how stupid she assumed I was. Perhaps you'll find her less abrasive? Anyway, they refused to replace the filling unless I treated the imaginary gum disease first. When I asked them if I should leave the same way I came in, they suddenly changed their minds and made an appointment to fill the tooth. Because of course they did. The garbage filling they eventually gave me was 350 dollars, and it broke immediately - within hours. They also tried, through presumed consent, to sell me an implant for another casual 10ish grand and said my jaw bones would waste away to nothing and ruin my life if I didn't do it. My mom has been missing that same tooth for 30 years and she is just fine. In order to provide this "service," they made me come in three times instead of just doing it the first time. I just wanted a filling to be replaced. If I knew there were going to be all these lies and stuff I would have just filled it with super glue myself and got similar results. Amazed at how blatantly predatory these people are, I decided to see another dentist to make sure my evaluation was correct. He fixed all my problems for half the price. He also confirmed my suspicion - that this organization lies for a living and tells everyone that they have gum disease. He then cleaned my teeth for 150 dollars (with xrays) and told me that I take very good care of my teeth - because I take very good care of my teeth. I can't give his name because he told me about Aspen's con in confidence. Overall, Aspen is a really great example of modern corporate greed. I was taught that lying to people to take their money is wrong, but nowadays I guess it's just good business. As a fun sidenote, a few years ago I had them pull a broken tooth, and it was literally the most excruciating thing I have ever experienced - on par with my severe eye injury. Then they wouldn't give me pain killers even though they pulled part of my jaw bone out with the tooth. I waved it off as an accident but now I see it's just terrible care at a high price. 0/10, do not pass go, do not give them your 200 dollars.

Though frustrating I've always been accommodating to their cancelations. Never causing a fuss or having attitude with them until this final straw. End of July, I was contacted and told my child's tooth extraction was being canceled for the same reason. Also, that it would be WEEKS before I even got a call back to reschedule! This was an urgent need due to the time frame of her orthodontic care. When I questioned how they decided who got canceled and mentioned that this isn't the first time they've done this to us, I was told " You're more than welcome to find a different dentist." Which felt like a giant slap to the face. Flash forward, I get another call from Keystone Dental. I perked up thinking they're calling about the tooth extraction, nope! I was informed that we could forget about our appointment for teeth cleaning and school forms that was coming up as well because as of August 1st Keystone Dental no longer takes our insurance. As if our experience wasn't already deteriorating quick enough with them, I found another dentist that was willing to see my daughter quickly and they asked that I contact Keystone Dental and have them email my daughter's xrays (newly taken ones on July 2nd) and her information. Which I did and the receptionist stated they would. We arrived at our new dentist only to find out that Keystone Dental sent OLD xrays and no paperwork! First call was on July 25th for a tooth extraction on August 6th. Second call was on August 5th for a teeth cleaning/school form signing on August 18th. You really think they didn't know in July that they were dropping our insurance? Our insurance website still states that Keystone Dental takes our insurance for existing patients. I genuinely think they still take our insurance but this was their was of punishing me for daring to question their frequent cancelations. I'm deeply disappointed by their conduct and will continue to take my business elsewhere regardless of insurance provider.

Now I am finally throwing in the towel after yet ANOTHER incident with them yesterday. They only have one dentist Dr. Lee who works late afternoon so I don't have to pull my kiddo from school. Which BTW unlike they suggest I should have to do....rather than suggesting I have to pull my kid, here's an idea... GET A DOCTOR THAT IS ABLE TO SEE PATIENTS ON TIME!!! I have dealt with this issue before and sat waiting for the doctor while I listened to him talk with a patient about everything in life other than her dental care including a political conversation that I found inappropriate and offensive .... All while other patients sat and waited and waited and waited past their appointment times. Well more if the same yesterday!!!! Son scheduled for 3:45. Called the office and was told not to bother to bring him until 4:30.... Brought him at 4:30 and told the nurse that he was here for his filling but I couldn't stay because I have a second job that I COULDN'T BE LATE FOR...Which is why I scheduled a 3:45 appointment!!!! I told the nurse my son was good to go and hos dad would be there by 5 to pick him up. His dad gets there and waits in the car for a few minutes and then goes in wondering where our 14 year old is??? They have not yet seen him because they DIDN'T HAVE PARENTAL CONSENT !!!! Are you so serious?!?! First I walked in with him and GAVE CONSENT and he is 14.... Which is the legal age of consent for medical treatment!!! This after poor care on 2 root canals, being unable to schedule appointments until months out because they have too many patients and waiting for an hour past my apppntment so that their doctor can have offensive conversation with patients thae has nothing to do with DENTAL WORK!!! I am DONE!!!

My 4 kids all went there there also, the only times we didn't was when it was a result of an insurance issue. I had to get a crown this past Fall, first one, I had no idea how awful it actually was to get one but turns out that was nothing compared to the aftermath. I was eating this past Easter Sunday evening and my crown fell off. I called them as soon as they opened the next morning and was told they didn't have time to see me, they would have to schedule me for the next day. I was so upset and devastate, I didn't appreciate it lasting less than a year not to mention the tooth nubby I had showing now that was embarrassing. I paid $500 plus whatever my insurance paid out for this crap job and now they want me to have to call off another day of work. I was upset to say the least. They did end up calling me back and squeezed me in. To reapply my crown that I still had took them a whole 10 minutes!! That was early April. Then this month, July,I was eating and again the crown came off. I immediately called them as it was a Friday morning and I am going on vacation, I was really upset. I frantically called them, not even mentioning vacation before she went to talk to the dentist and was told they could get me in as an emergency on Monday. Really? Monday! I told her I would be on vacation, I was put on hold and when she came back was told they could see me after my vacation. I was SO mad and SO sad because now all I am thinking about is this awful tooth nubby you can see when I smile and talk, I have more than enough stress on my life, don't need this for something that was their mistake for apparently not properly doing my crown In the first place!! It takes 10 minutes and I was prepared to leave work at whatever time they had available. Now I am really mad and see that they truly do not care about their patients!!! They have lost their compassion for their patients, they are too busy with not enough dentists which is obvious when they don't have 10 minutes for their mistake and my self esteem and are willing to let me go on vacation like this. I used to recommend them to others and now myself and my grown children will be going elsewhere. Shame on them for losing their compassion along the way! I would NEVER recommend them for ANY dental procedure and I truly regret the day I took their advice and got this crown. Shame on them!!
