St Pats is a small school with limited enrollment so the students all get to know each other well…read morefor the 9 years they attend. There are 2 classes for each grade level. Parents are highly involved in the classroom, in the lunchroom, carpool line, on field trips, and with fundraising events. Teachers work with kids on social skills (i.e. implementing the Golden Rule, helping the less fortunate, not bullying, etc. ) throughout the day, and especially during daily religion classes. We were concerned that St Pats didn't have a gifted program like RISD has REACH. However, our child has the kindergarten teacher who spends an hour each week doing REACH puzzles that RISD kindergarteners can do one evening a month. Students are tested before entering kindergarten for temperment and acedemic aptitude. This helps school administrators know how to divide students. There are 2 kinder classrooms, one with a slower softer teacher for students who are not as acclimated to school, the other teacher has the faster learners and inspires great enthusiasm in her students. (if your child is already reading before starting Kinder, which is not necessary, but you will want to be sure to request the accelerated teacher) Also, in the spring of kindergarten year, students can begin Chess club. Later in upper grades, there is a 2 week summer program for gifted students in the diocese that is by invitation based on grades which explores science and the arts. Overall, St Pats is a very nice learning environment, close community of parents and students, and a great value for your money.

Everything you need to know about the school: the school has ongoing difficulties hiring qualified…read moreteachers, which is a critical concern. The math teacher and the IB coordinator resigned last March, and as of December, no permanent replacements have been appointed. The teacher currently covering these responsibilities reportedly has no prior IB experience. Assigning teachers without confirmed IB background to senior-level classes raises serious concerns about the quality and continuity of instruction. The chemistry teacher taught online for half a year because the school was unable to secure a visa. Another teacher was hired in the middle of the year; however, the school has not provided any information regarding her IB experience or certification. This lack of transparency makes it difficult for parents to assess whether IB standards are being met. The school's salary and benefits package appears to be uncompetitive within the local market, which may explain the hiring challenges. At the same time, the school continues to allocate funds to cosmetic updates such as repainting facilities and redesigning the website through third-party contractors. This raises reasonable questions about budget priorities. Overall, student academic outcomes do not appear to be the school's primary focus. Additionally, it is publicly known that the director's wife works in UX design; beyond this, the rationale for the recent urgency to redesign the school's website remains unclear.

Imagine a world where in highschool the honors class is the entire highschool, 9th graders present the College Board "AP French" exam and every single 9th grader gets a solid 5 (max AP grade). Imagine a place where AP courses and IB (International Baccalaureate) or FB (French Baccalaureate) diplomas are not mutually exclusive and, 1370 SAT and 30 ACT scores are the average. Sounds like a familiar place? If it does not then you should consider DIS for your kids.

Seriously, this place prepares you in ways you don't recognize until years later, and then you're all the more appreciative when you're old enough and mature enough to appreciate such things. And as Scott said, I've made some great lifetime friends at the school, no doubt the contacts come in handy for a variety of things... One thing that this place didn't prepare me for was proper interaction with females. I was so socially awkward around girls until I learned in college how booze helps. Oh wait, I'm still socially awkward around girls. Thank you, all boys school!

My junior in high…read moreschool son and ninth grade daughter have learned many valuable social, emotional, athletic, and certainly educational lessons. Moving them from Lamplighter was very timely as they were craving structured environments that had rigorous academics. I am thrilled that they have been able to pursue their passions - including theater, sports, volunteerism, so many clubs, and leadership opportunities. Don't let the small class size fool you, it is a blessing! There are tons of opportunities for growth and they encourage the students to shine based on their own merits. Contrary to that negative yelp post from way too many years ago (P.S. You can't blame a child's drug habit on the school. That's called observant & disciplined parenting), the administration keeps a close eye on the students and alerts the parents quickly to concerns or behavior shifts. I can confidently say that we have parented in partnership with the school to raise smart, respectful, creative, athletic, well-balanced students. And Lakehill's focus on college prep is indeed a strength. The college counselor Ms. Dondis is a highly acclaimed professional - even a sought after expert speaker in her field. We specifically looked at Lakehill because it offered nondenominational education with so many opportunities in a nurturing, structured environment with a solid academic track record. 5 Stars for great academics, sports, a great community of involved parents, and a caring administration!

I feel as though he is a mature, respectful, well-prepared middler who I expect to achieve a very sold, college readiness experience. In terms of technology, the school does use lots - iPads, laptops, labs..... fairly typical of what I expect from a school such as this. The most important part of my observation is that he is happy and likes to go to school. I'm impressed. When I lived and taught in Dallas, I had no idea what this school was until a colleague left my school to teach there. That was 1997 - and he is STILL THERE! Since then another friend left his school to teach there. At this point it got my attention. Then they hired a marketing director, and the school started appearing more and more in the paper - like a LOT. Service projects became popular and a mainstay, and it was clear there was a strategic plan executed that included some serious "play," which has paid off; all of these things, my nephew participated in. It's a best kept secret for sure. From a community member perspective, living in the Lakewood area was a good experience, and I was able to participate in their fund raisers (Trek For Tech, among others), even though I didn't have kids in the school. Overall, if you are looking for a private school, you may be immediately enamored with the "big 5 (St. Marks, Cistercian, ESD, Hockaday, and Ursuline), and there are HUGE merits to each of them, but Lakehill prep is not to be missed.

I can't say enough good things about the staff and program at SWS. The school itself is Spanish immersion. This means NO English. Our pre-k kiddo is fluent in Spanish and even has a slight accent! Every teacher we have encountered is loving and provides a great balance of an educator and someone looking after them while they are on campus. The administration is also great. That is not to say they do not have their fair share of challenges or issues but they always work through it and do their best to make it right. As parents and customers of the school, we have to be understanding that during the pandemic everyone is doing their best and there will be things that get missed. The key is the safety and security of our kids during the day and that cannot be beat with SWS. I highly recommend them if you are looking for an immersion program in the Dallas area. During Covid, the schools took on the responsibility of ensuring all safety protocols were followed that were outlined by the state. But beyond that, they took it upon themselves to involve the parents and get a committee going to enhance the state protocols. Doctors, virologists, etc. formed that board and provided guidelines for the school as well as administration of weekly testing for the staff. We just restarted our kiddos back this past January and could not be happier. We are not allowed in the school but Drop-off and pickup are handled so well that I often times arrive and just based on knowing my car, our kids are sent down for pickup.

I would advice to look into other schools however, this place is going downhill fast. The neighborhood in which the facility is located is nice, there is a recreational center right across the street that is sometimes used by the school for science projects and what not. The environment of the school is very clique-y and it is quite visibly noted during lunch where mostly white students (with some exceptions) eat at the student center while black and Hispanics tend to drift in the cafeteria, why this is I will never understand. Staff doesn't really mind the cliques and in some cases it seems they promote it. Hm... My biggest issue with this institution is the staff. Most of the staff here is very prissy, rude and unprofessional. If you need something from them I advice you to send them a notice 2 years prior because unless someone is dying or it benefits them, they really don't care. I would never send my child to an institution like this. Rude rude rude.
