I bought a Cambridge Audio TOPAZ for just under 80 quid, an absolute bargain. I also needed some really good speakers to get the highest definition of sound from my vinyl, CD's and MP3's. I got a pair of Wharfedale floor standers for under 100 quid. Money well spent and my sound system is pristine. The staff at Richer really know what they are talking about. They don't go for the high pressure sales technique, they just let you browse and they answer any questions that you may have. This branch is a flagship store and I wouldn't go anywhere else for my consumer electronic needs.

The staff have extensive experience of audio visual equipment and they not only advised me on equipment but also hand-drew a diagram on how to connect the system together and advised me that although I'd bought the second cheapest units, that buying gold plated connectors would upgrade the sound somewhat. Richer Sounds have a nice line in bookshelf speakers too, and starting at around £20 for a pair they are amazing value for money. Also look out for discontinued lines of equipment that are bought in bulk at cut-prices and the savings passed on to you. With home-cinema systems being an impressive and (somewhat) affordable installation in your dwelling, the shop also has this mode of entertainment covered well with a stack of gear to suit whatever space you might have available.

Despite being called "Audio Affair" they only audio equipment I could see was radios, DAB radios, speakers, vinyl records and vinyl playlists. The shop has light grey walls so I think lighter walls like beige or white will make it look a bit bigger (lighter colours do that to a room) During my time here the guy was fixing something but it would have been nice for him to acknowledge me first. I waited to see if he would acknowledge me and the fact I was touching his fancy equipment. He eventually did but seemed more interested in fixing his equipment; even when I was asking him questions about the radios and speakers! Even though the products are pricey, the only reason I really like this shop is because of the modern radios and speakers. Everything else put me off.

Popped in the other day to listen to some headphones after reading about their new headphone bar…read more They werent kidding about the high end bit! I considered HD800 at £999 out of my budget but the Abyss headphones take the cake (sound amazing though). Back down to earth I had a good listen to a few contenders, specifically the Grado SR125e, Sennheiser HD650 and Sennheiser Momentums. For what I'll be using them for (listening on the train and at home) the Momentums were fantastic as they sound great and dont leak as much sound. Despite not being interested in anything new for my main hifi system on the day, they were kind enough to let me listen to the Linn Akurate Exakt system as well, another temptation at £17k (!) but a good insight into modern Linn system. I think I'll have to have a listen to the Majik DS next time.
