This place was definitely a cool place to take your kids or even for adults. You can try out different sports in this interactive exhibit: balance beam, rowing, surfboarding, alpine skiing, bobsledding, etc. You can also wear a gold medal too! There is paid parking underneath in the indoor garage for a nominal fee and a gift shop on the ground floor. It's definitely worth it to spend an hour or two, especially on a rainy day!

This is the first and only Olympic museum in Canada. I have never been to an Olympic museum before so I was curious about this place as I heard that there are sports simulators. After paying the admission fee, a guide will take you to a small theatre room on the main floor and you will watch a short film about the history of the Olympic movement. After finishing the film, the guide will take you to the first floor which has sports simulators, Olympic museum, and Olympic learning areas. The first simulator I tried was sit-ski which is a Paralympic sport. Sadly, it wasn't a complete experience as there was only one skiing pole because the right pole was missing. I thought it was weird that they let you use a simulator that wasn't even a complete fully functioning experience. Aside from that, it was fun skiing with one pole down a mountain while sitting down. The second simulator I tried was kayaking. The staff member told me that this wasn't a fully function simulator because you're basically watching a GoPro film of a kayaker going down a river. The paddling part was just to show how it felt like to kayak. Therefore, there are no winners or losers for this simulator. This simulator was only okay because the only thing I got out of this one were arm exercises. The third simulator I tried was the F1 race car. F1 motorsport is not a real Olympic sport, but I had a lot of fun using this one. The seating position, pedals, steering, sounds and seat movements felt as good as it gets for an F1 driving simulator. The last simulator I tried was ski jump. I had fun with this simulator but the graphics felt like it came from a late 90's/early 2000s computer game. There was also an area where you can test your soccer or target hockey skills on an empty net and you had to hit specific targets on the net. Just make sure you have athletic shoes for this one! One of my favourite interactive challenges was Reaction Timer. You can either play it as a single player or have a challenge with another player. There are two reaction timer games: one on the wall and one on the floor. How does it work? For the wall game, you have to press the button right away once you see it light up. For the game on the floor, you have to step on the light once you see it light up on the floor. This game is a real physical workout! I toured the rest of the museum which has displays of Olympic torches, medals, uniforms and equipment. Unfortunately, one cannot touch any of the medals, but it was nice to see them close up. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was plenty of parking in the pay parking parkade.

This is the stop on our trip with the most pictures. The kids, parents and grandparents had a fun interactive time. The docents were very nice and full of interesting information. It wasn't too busy. The simulators were the best and really helped my kids understand the sport better. We also liked the exhibit of mascots, exhibit of torches and exhibit of medals. The docents were very kind and encouraged my youngest child (4) to try a couple of activities. And she loved them.

Great experience. The facilities are clean. Only thing is you have to pay for parking-- but that's everywhere now.

However, once you enter you see the exhibits are a bit more subdued and it isn't as large as it seems from the outside. Still, that shouldn't discourage you from having a good time and getting a big old "VAG" hand stamp on you to experience this art gallery. The exterior of this museum is all Victorian in the scope of its columns and use of concrete materials. It could be a museum perfectly placed in any other Commonwealth country. Entering inside you go through a long hallway with a gift shop at the very end with a good selection of art related and niche items to buy. On one side of the hallway are lockers and restrooms. On the other is a stairway up to their cafe/restaurant as well as the entrance to the actual galleries for the museum. It doesn't feel aged and instead quite modern and efficiently designed. As most museums, there is a rotation of different exhibits and featured artists. During my visit one of the most visually stunning pieces was an atrium area with curving staircases on both sides with a rainbow pattern of waves on the ground. It was a nice visual and interactive piece and definitely one meant for social media. Continuing on I enjoyed seeing lots of interactive art pieces. One was a prompt on the wall where you could put sticky notes on the wall to answer the question. Another similar piece was found but instead of sticky notes you could hang pieces of paper with words or artwork as your response to their prompt. One of my favorite parts of the Vancouver Art Gallery was their offerings of easy to carry foldable chairs. This meant if you really found something you wanted to spend more time on you had a chair to help sit for a while. I wish more museums had this amenity. First Fridays of each month means free admission, though it is first come first serve so you might be waiting a while. But a free admission to this museum felt worth it. However, if you have to pay to come in unless they have a specific piece of art or artist featured that you like it might feel a bit expensive for the price of admission. Either way, museums are a great insight into any city and if you want to experience the creative side of Vancouver, the Vancouver Art Gallery is a good place to visit while exploring the city.

Is that all there is??? (Cue Peggy Lee)…read more I feel strange giving an art museum a 2 star rating, but... I visited VAG last week - it had been over a decade. The admission fee (no senior discount) was $35. Was looking forward to the Emily Carr exhibit (4th floor) - but it was puzzlingly small. I'm aware that VAG has a large collection of Carr's work in their permanent collection - why isn't more of it being shown??? The second floor gallery was off limits - apparently while a new exhibit is created. OK, the first floor had a pottery and a photography exhibit. Where is the permanent exhibit?? The old masters? The Group of Seven?? I was left with a feeling of scarcity. Until the museum is built up I'd suggest lowering the admission fee to something more commensurate with what's being shown. Honestly, it's a stately building with not very much being offered for public viewing. In the meantime, I enjoyed a tasty well-presented appetizer at 1931 Gallery Bistro.

The glowing jellyfish, ghostly sea creatures, and spooky underwater lights give off a playful Halloween vibe. The exhibit reminds us that our oceans are truly "haunted" -- not by spirits, but by pollution and garbage. The displays made from recycled materials show just how much waste ends up in the sea, and it's a great way to make both kids and adults think about how we can all help bring the ocean back to health. There is also a big LEGO model of the Cannery. Worth to check it out! I always find the temperature inside the cannery is cold especially in the winter time. I learned about how salmon was processed and canned, and then how herring fish were reduced into oil and fish meal. There's a section of the museum that is geared more towards small children to keep them interested. There's a gift shop at the end that has canned salmon to purchase, now that you know the amount of work that goes into processing, as well as other goodies. As a side note, I didn't realize that this museum offered tours, although I did come in the off season. From looking at other reviews, it seems cool that they can run the displayed machines at a slower speed to really illustrate how everything worked!
