I called the emergency number and was told to wait in the heat with our luggage, this was in the middle of the day. After a long wait, we we're finally let in. We had a room on the top floor but their elevator didn't work. We had to carry our heavy luggage up the tiny steep stairs, what joke! The room smelt old and unkept. It looked very out of date, ancient and not taken care of. The front desk people are very unkind. Next day we asked them for late check out so we could see the museum next door, the front desk person said that was fine. Surprisingly we got a call saying we were late on the checkout by the same front desk person. I'm not sure what's going on at this hotel but it's not worth the expensive rates they charge especially without a working elevator or any kindness.

It is one of the quietest hotels I have ever experienced this close to a city center. The host make you feel really at home. It is decorated in a Nordic way with bright simple qualiy furnishing if you confuse Ikea with Nordic as one reviewer has. Also contrary I can only think that that reviewer confused natural hardwood floors with its contours as dirty. Far from it the place was immaculately clean. The bathroom is a good size only the shower is a bit small and that is because of how the shower curtain is hung and could be easily fixed with a circular shower curtain my only complaint. The breakfast was absolutely wonderful in a charming setting. I came in tense from a Amsterdam hotel nightmare and left refreshed.

Pretty amazing! It feels a bit like IKEA chic with spare design but comfortable and functional. Although I hate some decisions like a shower with no curtain or door that basically stays open to the rest of the bathroom and water can get everywhere. Who thought this was a good idea? Other flaws include requiring you to put your room key in a slot by the door in order to turn on the light, and the air conditioner seems insufficient during the summer and very confusing to control. But otherwise everything is comfortable. There's plenty of open shelving for clothes and luggage, lighted clothes hanging areas, two couches with table and chairs, and a roughly queen size bed that can be separated into two narrow almost twin sized ones. I e more oddity is that the front desk is on the second floor so you can go up a flight of stairs or take the elevator. The staff seemed friendly and accommodating when we needed extra hangers and linens, and everything is clean and sleek. A nice experience overall despite some design issues.

One market, Nikolausdorf, was just down the street from the hotel. The staff member who checked us in was very nice, and when we asked for extra pillows, he brought them up to our room. We booked the hotel online and did have to pay a small local tax upon check out, but it was less than ten euro. The hotel was incredibly quiet, which made for two great nights of sleep. The large bed is two single beds pushed together, and in true German fashion, two duvets. I was super warm when I slept because I just wrapped myself up in the duvet. Plus, with two separate beds, I didn't hear when my husband got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The room had a small fridge, which we used for sodas that we bought from the REWE grocery store a few doors down. The shower was great and the bathroom had all of the necessary toiletries (shampoo, lotion, body wash, hand soap). We didn't try the breakfast or gym/sauna, so I can't comment on those. We got enough exercise walking to and from the Christmas markets and around the city, and we ate breakfast at the local bakery. I would certainly stay here again, and if any of my friends are visiting Köln, this hotel is close to everything the city has to offer, including Kölner Dom, public transit, markets, and wonderful restaurants.

The location and room were adequate for my needs, but everything else was less than satisfactory. We arrived at 4:30ish after getting a text at 2:38 that our room was ready. After a long travel day we were excited to get into our room and freshen up, but were met with a huge line when we got into the lobby. The Marriott Elite check in was unattended and the normal check in had 2 people working and 4 people in line. My travel companion and I waited approximately 20 minutes to be seen. When we got to the desk we were told our room wasn't ready. We asked how that was possible given the text we got at 2:38 and the staff member wasn't sure. We were told to wait because she wasn't sure when the room would be ready. I was pretty upset as the hotel check in time was 3pm and 1 hr 30 min after we were told they didn't know when we'd get our room. We watched person after person get their room and get to go upstairs but we were told they didn't know when we'd get ours. We waited an additional 25 minutes and went back to the desk and a new person gave us a room quickly. He added in breakfast and dinner, but unfortunately we couldn't use this service. Notably the main entrance is stairs only but there are side doors that are handicap accessible and make suitcases much easier as well. I'm seeing a lot of negative comments from Bonvoy members that are frankly a little embarrassing on some review sites... These rooms seemed in line with European hotel room standards and were impeccably clean, and comfortably appointed. In a very old building things like AC will often be impossible and that's really something you should look into before staying somewhere if it's important to you. Similarly when transitioning a very old building for a new purpose, not every room will have ample windows! Our room had one which worked fine for our needs. For us, there was a little confusion because we thought that breakfast was optional to include as titanium members (usually there is an option to add breakfast as a welcome benefit for higher status members), but this was a miscommunication and while a bit of an unpleasant surprise to be met with the bill at the end of our stay, understandable and not a detriment to our overall experience. I do think the hotel would benefit from clarifying if they offer a welcome benefit and outlining it very clearly, but that is really my only criticism. Our bathroom thankfully had a real and functioning door although I agree that some door choices in European hotels can leave privacy to be desired. Overall we were very pleased, really appreciated the convenient location, and found the hotel to be charming, and the staff to be helpful and pleasant. Definitely encourage you to stay here and take advantage of the easy public transit nearby!

Fortunately we arrived in the afternoon wothout any issues. The top floor has a mandatory one flight staircase climb after the elevator takes you to the 5th floor also no problem for us, but good idea to let them know in advance if you have mobility issues.
