I waited a few years before I reached out to an attorney, who shall remain nameless, who has ads and commercials claiming to help you with your Social Security Claim, but I was denied during my intake. So, when I reached out to Hawaii Disability Legal Services for assistance with my claim, I was less optimistic that they could or would help me but from day one they were very attentive and active with my claim. They stayed in contact with me and provided me with updates on the status of my claim over the years. I was discouraged, again, after being denied, again but I was encouraged to trust the process and not give up hope. They appealed the decision and requested that I submit some relevant information regarding my treatment and providers. I was scheduled to have a hearing several months later and they were in contact with me throughout the process. TLDR Diane and her team fought like hell and helped me get approved. I would suggest that if you are serious about your claim and want to have a chance of winning, do yourself a favor and call or email them asap.

Jason was EXCEPTIONAL in court! Although conducted over the phone (due to COVID-19) he was well prepared and was able to keep focus throughout hearing. He was quick on his feet to locate an important document that the court clerk failed to file correctly. The moment that Jason saved my entire hearing was after an hour of questioning and the Judge was asking the expert to examine my ability based on five hypothetical situations. There are two points that in my opinion where Jason saved my case: 1: The judge was using hypotheticals based on a 6/2/2 (sit/stand/walk) standard, Jason pointed out my max ability is 4/2/2 and asked the expert to reassess the hypotheticals based on my max ability. Expert at first said he didn't see why accommodations couldn't be made as long as I stayed at my work station. First slam dunk: Jason's reply that I would need to leave my work station in order to stand/walk. 2: Jason reiterated my need to elevate above my heart multiple times a day & asked if in any of the hypotheticals would work accommodate this requirement. Second slam dunk: Jason's reply if in the experts opinion any job would accommodate this need. The expert said no. The judge then asked why & the expert replied that I would be unproductive. Hearing Grievances: 1: Social Security uses outdated DOT standards. Today a Financial Center Managers job requires 90% standing, most of us don't even get an office as our primary job is to "Lobby Lead" where we are on our feet the entire day in order to greet every guest, assess their needs & sales opportunities, then match them with an expert to best meet their needs. 2: It felt like there was no consideration to the medication I'm required to take due to my condition or the side effects associated with those medications. On these meds I'm unable to drive, focus, make sound decisions, I'm dizzy, sleepy, & get blurred vision. Thank you for your time, expertise, & due diligence in preparing for my hearing.

My family and I have been through a lot concerning the DOE. I was asked to explain my story when I called the HDRC. I explained what had occurred. Receptionist asked me questions and I answered. Then she made a glib remark about how she could understand the DOEs frustration because since she'd been on the phone with me I'd been speaking for 30 minutes. Ummm thanks? I have a slam dunk case, including written statements, emails, audio recordings... and would rather just contact a professional law firm that will take me seriously.
