Never consider this facility for your loved ones. We were…read morelooking for an assisted living facility for my mother-in-law. The top one on our list was The Fountains. On our tour, we were charmed. The facility is clean, well designed, and beautiful. My mother-in-law liked the facility, and we did too. At her ability assessment it was determined that she would need transportation to and from the dining room and assistance at shower time. It would cost extra for this help. The staff were unreliable, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Many times, my mother-in-law would wait in her room to be brought to the dining room. She would have to press her button to summon help and then wait for someone to come for her. At other times after a meal she would be left in the dining room alone for up to one hour! She would press the button to summon help, but no one would come. One aide told her that they were busy helping other people take showers. When a resident presses their button, it does not indicate what type of aid the person needs. She could have had an emergency but responding quickly wasn't important to them. On another occasion, while showering my mother-in-law dropped her bath brush and asked the aide to hand it to her. The aide told her that she (my mother-in-law) could get it herself. These are not isolated events, they are repetitive. My husband and I would speak with staff about our concerns each time an incident happened. We were assured that they would investigate and rectify the situation. We asked to talk with the director and each time she was either too busy or not on site. Staff said they would schedule an appointment with her and notify us of the time and date. We are still waiting for that appointment. I sent a letter expressing our concern to the upper management at Navion, the Fountains parent company. I included my email address and telephone number. I haven't heard anything from them. When sending the letter of notification that we are moving my mother-in-law, I found that my emails are blocked from their email server but my husband's email to the same address with the same attachment did go through. One of the selling points of the Fountains is their community events involving residents' families. We never received any form of communication for any events. We checked several times verifying our contact information and were assured that they did have it. At the family and resident Thanksgiving dinner, my mother-in-law sat alone in tears. She did not know about the event and we had not been invited. We asked the office to contact us with information about the Christmas family dinner. They did not and of course we were not invited. We live 25 minutes away so distance is not a problem. The final event that caused us to leave the Fountains started with a lie. My mother-in-law was in her room walking over to her closet when she lost her balance and fell. An aide was making her bed beside her at the time of her fall. My mother-in-law immediately called us to tell us about her fall. We heard the aide in the background and had her put the phone on speaker. We asked the aide where they would be taking her for an Xray and evaluation. A few minutes later, my husband received a call from the Fountains notifying him that his mother had fallen. The nurse told my husband that it was certainly lucky that an aide had happened to be going to my mother-in-law's room shortly after she fell. My husband attempted to correct her and was told that he was wrong. We know better. My husband went to the hospital to be with his mother. When it was determined that she had broken her hip, he called the Fountains to inform them. To date, 17 days have passed since her accident and no one from the Fountains has contacted her or us to find out how she is doing or when she might return. After paying extra for additional help and care, occasionally it was provided. As her family, we were engaged and involved but our repeated requests for meetings were never followed up on. The caring environment we had hoped to find for her wasn't at The Fountains. She won't be returning.

We probably went on over 20 tours around the Alpharetta/Johns Creek/Roswell area. It's an incredibly overwhelming process, especially when the move has to happen fast and from out of state. There were a lot of places out there that were nice, but none that were as welcoming as Vitality. They ensured that I, as the daughter dealing with all this, was ok first, and then they helped walk me through each step. Every single person that works here really loves what they do and wants to be there. That is rare to find, especially in elder care! They are all incredibly communicative, proactive, caring, and genuinely good people. The building is open, bright, and spacious! The rooms are big and bright (also hard to find!). The food is excellent, there are lots of options, and they will even assist you with dietary adjustments. There are a lot of activities, and they highly encourage residents to get involved. My dad is already leading 3 or 4 different spiritual study groups. He really loves it here, and I can rest easy knowing he is being well taken care of. I'm so grateful we found this place!

My mom has been in two other memory care facilities and neither one could hold a candle to the Oaks. The staff is so caring and loving. They treat all the residents like family. The management gets down and dirty with the care staff. Not one of them is hesitant to help care for a resident. I can go on forever in praising the Oaks. I am so thankful that Shelley was persistent in sending me emails inviting me to the upcoming events. That is what led me to choose Oaks when it was time for Mom to move.

My mother is very happy living here and she comments often about how kind everyone is. The food is great, they have Chef Mark to plan and prepare the meals. I wish I could eat so well! The staff really go the extra mile, they let me know if there have been any changes with my mom, even if it's something minor. Mom's room is always clean, her laundry is done several time a week and is folded/put away for her. Her bed linens are changed once a week, the trash in her room is emptied daily. I would love to live here one day. Andrew, the Executive Director, is always out and about. He knows all of the residents by name and knows details about each one. He knew me by name before I had even moved my mom in. The Executive Directors at two other communities where my mom lived prior to the Oaks never left their offices and didn't know my name, even though I visited 4-7 days a week. Lynne, the Horizons activities director, is amazing. She has so many great things planned, my mom loves going for rides on the community bus, even if it's just the "scenic joyride" around Woodstock. My mother has lived at three other AL and memory care communities and the Oaks is by far the best. I visited four communities before selecting the Oaks. I also asked around a lot, talked to many people in the industry, including the caregivers, CNAs, etc. They all said how great the Oaks is and how much they would love to work there if given the chance.
