When we arrived to sign in, we weren't expecting to stay at the Shepherd's Inn, but it turned out to be an amazing experience and we felt extremely blessed to be there. The Inn was simple, yet had everything we needed - clean, comfy beds, spotless bathrooms, and amazing views from the walk-out porch. The Training Center provided our meals, and they were incredible - home-cooked style, healthy, flavorful, and generous in size. The Chatlos Memorial Chapel was breathtaking and offered a peaceful place to reflect. The grounds at The Cove were immaculate. Everything was in pristine condition, beautifully maintained, and the views of the nearby mountains and forests were beyond words. As a bonus, we even got to see several black bears and cubs - easily one of the highlights! Thank you to everyone at The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove! Whenever I listen to the Billy Graham channel on SiriusXM and they talk about The Cove, I can happily say I've been there and can picture it all so much better now.

I highly recommend stopping to take in the views but do not recommend dining here. Only the Terrace Dining was open the day I was there but you'd think that would bring great views. I was seated against the building and my view was of another building without turning my chair to the views. It was very slow there and there were plenty of open tables with amazing views. I had read about the prime rib plate and although pricey at $42 decided to go with what they were known for. When my food was brought out I was told that they were out of the prime rib plate and that I was brought out the prime rib sandwich instead. What? So if they were out of what I ordered why was I not informed earlier or asked what I would like to order instead? Then to bring another item with prime rib if they are out of prime rib doesn't make much sense. Then I overheard someone at another party ordering the prime rib plate and he was not told they were out of it. So what likely happened was the waitress put my order in wrong and instead of correcting it came up with the lie to try to cover up her mistake. She was also supposed to check on me to see if I liked it but never did. When I did see her again I told her it wasn't good then she said that she was happy I liked it. That is not what I said at all. What I was brought was disgusting. I'm not sure what was worse, the soggy bread, thin pot roast that was flavorless, covered with cheese and onions. And they charged $24 for that sandwich. My side of mashed potatoes were cold. I'm not sure if they forgot to reheat them. I will never dine at the Switzerland Inn again after the awful service and food. 6/30/25 Update: The weather was beautiful the day I visited. No rain or thunderstorms in the forecast. Solo diners are just given the tables in the back without the view which is disappointing that we are not valued. I do regret not leaving when the food I was presented with was not what I ordered. I should have walked away and gone somewhere else that respected me. This restaurant needs to hire better waitstaff or properly train them so that they can put orders in correctly and if a mistake is made, he or she corrects the mistake rather than lie about it. I do hope the restaurant can correct the issues with service as there is a lack of it and improve the quality and temperature of the food served.

The room overlooking the mountains in the main lodge is very nice. We stayed on the second floor and there is not an elevator so you carry your bag upstairs. Dinner was in the Pub in front of the Chalet Restaurant. Dinner was excellent. Chicken Piccata would have been the best I ever had however they do not serve it with pasta. Pasta in that amazing lemon sauce would have made the dish perfect. Salmon was also very good and try the sweet potato fries. They are so good. After dinner you can sit around the fire pit (complimentary blankets are available) under the most beautiful star filled sky. It's all very romantic, The Resort has a pool, outdoor bar, ice cream parlor, ping pong, horse shoes, and other activities. It's a great family place to stay and I look forward to returning in the Fall.

It was the perfect setting for our woodsy, romantic ceremony. The tree-lined path was my favorite spot on the entire property! We had our ceremony outside with a beautiful view of the mountains, which was absolute perfection. Our reception was held in the big wooden hall that was set up so beautifully. Our guests absolutely loved this venue! We received so many compliments saying it was one of the best wedding venues they've been to. I am so thankful for Arik, the venue manager, who was extremely accommodating and so kind to us, our familiars and all of our vendors. The staff at Yesterday Spaces are professional and helpful. I didn't have to worry about a thing on my wedding day because they had it covered. I really appreciated Arik's willingness to work with me and my planner since I was planning my wedding from out of town. They still allowed them to use the space the following year being this year so we celebrated his mom's 60th. I'm so happy we used the space in December because the Christmas decor was BEAUTIFUL. The photos don't even do it justice! Food was also phenomenal. We got options of steak or salmon and I chose salmon. It was perfectly flavored and the scallops on the side were so cheesy, flaky, soft, and delicious. I also tried the steak and it had gravy on top so it reminded me more of deer meat and I wasn't blown away by it, however it was good. The dessert was chocolate molten lava cake with strawberry on the side and just trust me when I say it was the best dessert of my life. It was so rich so there was no way I could have finished it without feeling sick so I only ate half. My favorite part about the cake is that the top was hard and crusted and the second you go to take a bite, you find the soft center with the chocolate lava that spills out. How I imagine the sweets in heaven lol. The service was incredible and so were the drinks. I ordered a moscow mule and it was good. I also got a mojito and I'm so used to places telling me they are out of mint so I was surprised when I ordered it and they had all the ingredients. It was super well made and tasted great. Such a nice place for a birthday celebration and I bet the weddings here are nothing short of perfection. The location, view, staff, food, etc. is all incredible. The only negative is that there is no direct ramp from the bear parking lot to the entrance, you have to walk completely around if you have a stroller or carry it up the stairs that go to and from that parking lot. We got tickets right away and didn't have to wait in line. You need to keep in my mind that this is not a zoo. It is a small nature center, their focus is on highlighting/featuring animals that live naturally in the Western Carolina's. I love that this is their focus, as I learned so much about the wildlife in our surrounding area. Also, a lot of their animals are rescued animals that can't be released back into the wild. All the exhibits were well maintained and had wonderful information signage. The wellness center had great signage and was easy to get around. It took us about 2 hours to do the entire center. It looks like the nature center will be expanding / updating their exhibits. This is a great place to educate yourself and kids about the types of wildlife in the western Carolina area and things you can do to help keep nature wild / conserve nature. I also loved their pollinator garden! We need more awareness about the importance of pollinators! They also had interactive playgrounds sprinkled throughout the center for kids to play on. All the walking paths were shaded. It felt nice and cool walking underneath the trees here. If we lived in the area we would definitely come back.

We've visited Western North Carolina many times but never came to the WNC Nature Center. On a…read morerecent stay in the area, we noticed it was open on Sunday so we finally went. Although relatively small, the center is well planned and presented. It's technically a zoo, albeit a small one focusing mostly on native animals. We got to see otters (one of our favorites) along with wolves, bears, birds, reptiles and even a red panda. The cost is not exorbitant and you could do the whole park in 1-2 hours. There are also interactive exhibits and a play area to keep your kids occupied. Glad we went.
