Recently, I had service completed to insulate my HVAC ductwork. While the quality of the…read moreinstallation itself was acceptable, I was very disappointed with the handling of the material costs that I prepaid for. The amount of materials required for the job appears to have been significantly overstated. Unless I had specifically questioned the excess, it seems the unused materials would have been removed and potentially used elsewhere despite being charged to my account. What was even more concerning was the lack of communication afterward. When I attempted to address these concerns, the manager did not make himself available to discuss the matter or answer my questions. This experience left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with the company's materials ordering and customer service practices. Customers should be aware.

I'm writing this review from a very satisfied customer perspective - who recently spend a few…read morethousand dollars with Goodberlet. I've used them twice. The first time was in 2021 when we got our ducts cleaned. They were very thorough - ensuring all input and output ducts were clean and explaining the process. The second time was just the other day (Nov 2024). I wanted the ducts clean and set an appointment for 2 weeks out - BUT - then the furnace stopped working to I called for advice. They sent a technician out as soon as feasible (the next day) who did a thorough investigation and said that our furnace was 23 years old, and 8 years past it's expected "lifetime". I'd noticed that it wasn't heating our bedroom well anymore. He gave us the option to repair it, yet also said we could get a new furnace for about 3 times to cost it would take to repair and be more energy efficient. We sat down and discussed pros and cons with no pressure. We ended up buying the new furnace - as they installed - they explained how to work it and what the differences would be. While they were coming, we looked into a more energy-efficient air conditioner as well - as ours was 28 years old and figured "while they are here". They took the time to explain the differences between 1996 technology and 2024 technology. By having them install both a new furnace, and new A/C, as well as clean the ducts - they were here for 10 hours - and wouldn't leave until they were sure everything was right - even though it was 7:45 at night when they finished and pitch dark out! Afterwards, I needed a combined receipt, and I talked to Christine and she quickly got me what I needed.

I called asking for someone to get my doorbell working. Two days later I received a call saying a…read morefellow could come and work on it. When he got here the first thing he said was doorbells are difficult to get going. The next thing he said was "Just because it has a wire doesn't mean you need an electrician." He said a couple of times he had to get out of here soon or he would have to charge me. Plus he took a phone call and said he would be leaving here and on his way soon. You could tell right from the time he got here that he had no intention of doing the job. At no time did he ever look at the doorbell. I have had Girard Electric do several jobs in the past and the men were always nice and did the job right, but I had heard that both Girard Electric and Goodburlet Heating and Cooling had merged and that neither were much good anymore. I should have listened to those that said not to call them. It's a shame, they were good companies at one time. I wasted two days where I could have been looking for a company that would do the job and do it right. Some whiney guy looking for a quick and simple job is not what anyone wants to hire. Companies with lousy service people and those that make excuses instead of doing their job are a dime a dozen today. Won't be calling them back here again.

Then I called them to to do some more light fixture replacements. The guy they sent out kept asking for new light bulbs. He didn't want to put the effort into taking them out of the old fixtures apparently, he was just going to throw them out. That makes no sense. Then I got the bill in the mail and it had $50 worth of travel time. They are 3.5 miles from my home. I called and talked to the owner who said traffic can get bad and one-way could take 1/2 hour. From Kankakee to Bourbonnais? They are 10 minutes away. I talked to the owner's sister who works there, she used to live in my neighborhood and said15 minutes at the most. I was not charged travel time when Dave came out, so these travel charges were bogus as far as I'm concerned. They took the travel charges off of the bill. I called them today, late May, to do some work. I was told they have no electricians available until August. What?? These folks don't know how to run a business that serves its customers well. I will not be calling again.

Once it was done, I went in and found a cracked new light fixture, knob and tube still there, drywall not replaced where they put the panels, leaving a void in the wall and upon my HVAC guy shocking himself because they had marked a wire wrong from a box, I asked them to come back in and correct the issue. Specifically asking them to make sure the right boxes are powering the correct sides of a duplex which I was told would be checked out. I was told that was done and the best I could tell, it was because some of the visual things were taken care of (except hole in wall and knob and tube left). Fast forward many months and me paying them already, I find that there a ton of wires powering wrong sides of the duplex. I discuss with them again and they tell me they don't believe that's their issue as they only replaced the boxes, even though I specifically asked them to make sure this was not the case the second time out. I asked them to contact my handyman that knows the issue way better and they didn't even bother to call from what I'm told. Nor did they bother getting back with me after that conversation. I came to Kaiser because I thought they were the best. I hire Union electricians because I wanted it done right the first time. They showed they're no better than anyone else, they just charge WAY more. I now get to pay someone more to come in and fix their shortcomings. I'll never use them again! They claim one thing and do another. Would have been very easy to make this right, but they chose not to care enough to even know what it would take.
