Starting with the food, we chose the 4 courses tasting menu (we could compose it) at 30€ per person. Not only the dishes were very well presented but they were well thought in terms of taste combination (the beef tartare with curry mayo and the hazelnut crème brulée were superb). The chef also provided us with a great dish from the culinary tradition of Emilia Romagna: a speechless plat of Tagliatelle al ragú bolognese. Turning to the service, we would like to highlight the professionalism and charisma of Lisa, the maitre. We were welcomed with a great smile and we can say Lisa is a great listener, she advised us on the wine (Monte Brullo, Sangiovese 2012, az. agr. Costa Archi, €25) and it was a perfect match with our choice of dishes. To sum up, the price we paid is definitely worth the quality of the food and the service. If you wanted to make a customer happy, congrats you did it! I had the bolognese pasta with a side of grilled vegetables and my husband got the traditional golden tortellini. At this point on our trip I had ordered bolognese many many times, and this was far and away the best one! All of the dishes we ordered were delicious with the exception of the mushroom pasta that my friend ordered. It tasted more like an asian stir fry dish and was truly bizarre. Service - we arrived at lunch time and they gave us a corner table. The waiters originally ignored us in the beginning and we had to wait quite a bit for the menus to arrive. When our driver started to speak Italian to them, they perked up a little, but were very aloof and almost hostile- I guess they don't like tourists. Food - lasagna Verdi vecchia bolognese and the tortellini were delicious with its simplicity. The bollito misto (boiled meats) was extravagant in presentation, but meat was too salty. I would stick to the traditional entrees next time.

We headed out to find this elusive place, which we easily missed as it is in a quiet side street, with a small obscure sign. After descending the stairs, we were surprised at how large the restaurant was. We were seated next to the original wine cellar dating back to the 1400's! We ordered the Carpaccio di Salmone, Tagliatelle al Ragout Bolognese (of course), Tagliata di Manzo alla Brace, and a bottle of Montefalco Rosso for lunch. Everything was delicious and we couldn't have been happier to have eaten here. Although this restaurant is deemed four € signs, it really wasn't expensive at all. On the way out, we looked around the area of the entrance and were pleasantly surprised to see a wall of photos of all the celebrities who dined here - including Mariah Carey, Angelina Jolie, etc and a bunch of Italian celebs too!

The chef came out and greeted us, which was a nice touch I experienced at no other restaurant during this trip. The fact that he was such a great host and that he was open on such a high holiday were commendable. We finished with a plate of panettone in addition to the more traditional ending of petit fours, the perfect end to a perfect Christmas feast, Modenese-style.
