While I tried to not let my "American-ness" show by asking for ranch, I did toss on some of the chili oil and Tabasco they had readily available to give the Pizza a little extra kick. Not sure if it was the dim, candle-lit lighting or being jet-lagged (maybe both?), but don't make the same mistake I did by thinking the shaker of a dark yellow powdery substance is garlic powder because it's really brown sugar! Other than that... Delicious!

Based on recent ratings I expected to like this Calice d'Oro more than I did. In the end, it was a…read morerather disappointing experience overall. The restaurant sits along a busy street near The Gate. Atmosphere is nice enough...comfortable seating inside and out under awnings, crisp white table cloths, Italian wait staff straight out of "Central Casting Roma" who charm with Italian greetings and banter. But the good times end there. While menus were brought to our table immediately, taking our order took some time and a few hand gestures to make happen. Food, a pizza and some pasta for my friend, were bland and mediocre at best. Have feeling the orders sat a bit before being delivered as they were lukewarm upon arrival. The pizza was undercooked, under-sauced, and rather boring overall. Pasta was reported to be the same. When it was to go it took three asks to settle the bill. Our charming waiter politely suggested our tip was insufficient (it wasn't), and I left feeling much more like I'd been hoodwinked into dining at a tourist trap vs. having an enjoyable experience. I'm clearly in the minority compared to other recent reviews. Maybe it was just an off-night. But I travel to Berlin enough to know there are some really good small independent places to find great Italian food. This place is not one of them. Diners beware.

They offer seating both outdoors and indoors. I opted to dine outdoors. Nice atmosphere. The waiter spoke German, Italian, and English. He was professional and efficient. Complimentary warm, fresh bread and olives were served first. I ordered a Latte Macchiato and the Spaghetti Aglio Olio. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked, al dente. It was simple, not loaded with many ingredients, just garlic, roasted red peppers, Parmesan, and olive oil. Delicious. Reminiscing makes my mouth water. It was a pleasant expensive.

Easily the best Italian style (not American style) pizza I've had in Berlin. The crust is thin but not crispy, the sauce was good, good balance of tomato flavor with the spices. High quality, fast, AND cheap meal option for lunch through late night…read more Most reviews here are for the pizza - we tried a slice and it was okay. A little dried out from sitting out and then being reheated, but cheap and tons of topping options by the slice. I have to rave about the PASTA. They're all priced at $6-8 euros and you get a large portion (plenty for one person, shareable for two if you're not super hungry). We tried the pesto pasta and it was so fresh and flavorful, plus we had a major cheese craving and they DELIVERED with a big pile of parmesan served on the side that you can mix in. Staff is friendly, service was fast, you really can't go wrong.

We were going to order one pizza each but the waiter warned us about the size and suggested that we do half size pizzas and to order more if we were still hungry. Parmesan cheese as a topping would have been nice as well but it was not an option. Honestly, it's a decent place to go to for a quick bite.

I waited a while but nobody came to talk to or seat me even though they obviously knew I was there so I assume it was probably self-seating, went in, and awkwardly sat myself - and apparently that was totally fine! I initially went in because I wanted to try their pasta, but when I sat down I saw almost everyone in there was eating pizza. I asked my waiter if he would recommend the pasta or pizza and he said definitely the pizza, so I went with that instead. I think L'Osteria is known for having *huge* pizzas, and yes omg let me tell you it was definitely HUGE! (Picture posted so you can see, it was as big as my body!) However while I enjoyed the experience of chilling in the restaurant with my giant pizza and radler (and my waiter was super friendly and chill too!), how much I enjoyed my food was a whole other story. Toppings were sparse and the pizza was way, way too salty. I will likely not be back next time I visit just based on the quality of the pizza, which is unfortunate as everything else about this restaurant was quite pleasant.

This place is off the scale on the effortless side. It's positively horizontal in the service department, not the speed of it, coz hot tasty food raced our way before I could say where's my pizza? But the attitude. You're never entirely sure whether they've taken it all in, but their un-reassuring nod kinda puts you at ease? :/ They're very trusting though. If you want a drink then it's a help yourself setup from the fridge. To make sure they knew I wasn't pilfering I waved my chosen Berlin beer in their general direction and there it was again - That nod with half closed eyes. Come "The bill, please" time it was a case of, "just tell us what drinks you had". I wasn't sure, coz copious amounts of drink (well, 3 bottles really) and counting aren't my forte. But a helping hand from my sober friends soon brought order to my dodgy beer goggle arithmetic :)
