Came out to Rig Hand Distillery today for our Anniversary and to take in their distillery tour. What an interesting process and very informative. We love how they use local ingredients from the community surrounding the distillery to make all of their products. The restaurant is nicely decorated with local oil rig decorations, custom made chairs and tables. By the time the tour was done, it was fairly busy in the restaurant, mainly because they were hosting a concert in their 150 seat venue upstairs. We sat down to try the sample board and then have a bite to eat before the show. I had the burger and fries which were delicious on the first bite. A wonderful charbroiled burger flavor with fresh ingredients and the fries were crispy and golden brown. We will definitely be back to try more menu items and to support their delicious hand made alcohols. read more

I was super interested in the garlic vodka for Caesar's and it does not disappoint! They use red Russian garlic and it's all cut by hand! For the berry ones they do them seasonally- they use Evans Cherries in their cherry vodka. Any fruit comes from the local area. And they do lots of local sourcing for their ingredients and collaborations. Double double is their version of Baileys- but better than Baileys! The last time we went they even had a carrot cake chai version and it was so delightful! Sugar beet brum (rum), traditionally made with sugar cane, they use a more local ingredient: Sugar Beets from Southern Alberta. A-freaking-mazing! Such a clear crisp taste, perfect on the rocks. Their wheat comes from across the road at a local farmers: Schneider's Farms. And a family fungi farm grows oyster mushrooms on their spent grain- very cool! They have been open since Oct 2017 officially. In over 700 liquor stores in Alberta. Over 30 products, from vodka, gin, and a line of whiskey. I loved the named areas or equipment - that was adorable and made it really unique! Jelly Bean brewery spot, to the mid still Schatzi. I will definitely be back for some Christmas gift shopping and to bring some friends to their tasting room and gift shop. Nisku isn't that far away! Their space is stunning! I love the outdoor entering area, even a Teepee used for ceremonies. They have a beautiful upstairs area you can rent. And fantastic open taproom dining and of course a great tour area. Our distillery tour was top notch! Amazing story teller, full of knowledge and experiences. It made it so much more than just a tour of the distillery and the processes. They've moved! And what an awesome surprise. Popped into their new location to grab my pre-made Caesars (you NEED to order these ahead of time!) and found their new location served food! Tables available both inside and out. We ordered the two specials.. BBQ chicken wrap with chips and Buffalo Chicken dip with Naan. Also ordered the honey garlic chicken wings. Food was fantastic! We ordered the Mead wine, raspberry lemonade and Bumble (this could be the wrong name!). Sooooo good. Service was great. We picked up our caesars from their general store serving all their signature liquor and Rig Hand gear. read more

We've been meaning to stop in since they moved from Nisku to their cool new digs. It was awesome. We both had the burger and it was so good. Great fries. Nice people. We will definitely be back. I can't say enough good things about this place!! I want to start by saying how AMAZING they are when it comes to supporting the community... they go over and above when it comes to support. What is even cooler, is that you can ride your motorcycle through the distillery, then get a tour of it along with samples if you'd like in the sampling room! Along with supporting the community, they also use locally sourced ingredients. Good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good... their selection is soooooooo tasty! Whether it's the double double, raspberry vodka, or garlic vodka which is perfect for Caesars, there is literally something for everyone in their selection. You can find many of their selections in stores, but I highly recommend to pop out to the distillery for a tour and sampling before buying your choice. I forgot to ask, but someone said that if you take their bottles back that you can get money off of your next purchase... I'm not sure if it's true, but why not ask next time you're there! read more

I've been to a micro brewery & a small chocolate tour that reminded me of a brewery but Rig Hand by far puts on the best show. It's a very down to Earth, small town feel distillery and maybe that's why I felt so at home. Geoff was full of information & a great tour guide, Bailey tended to us & let us try all the different flavors they had to offer. It was a fantastic experience, I just can't believe it took me this long to go check it out! By far my favorite was the Double Double. It's AMAZING! I took a bottle home that night! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Brum. So delicious. I hope to adopt a bottle & give it a good home soon :) read more

I absolutely love coming to Big Rig Distillery! Walking in here feels like walking into a family members home. Whether you're greeted by an employee, the owner, or even their lovely dog Charlie, you feel welcome from the very beginning. Taking a tour here is awesome! If you're lucky enough to have Geoff facilitate your tour, you're going to come out feeling the same passion for this craft Distillery and their products as Geoff puts out. His knowledge and stories keep you wanting to hear more! After the tour, make sure to stop by their bar and try some of the amazing products they make. Their speciality is their Caesar made with their Garlic Vodka, but my favourite is their raspberry vodka with a little bit of Sprite or Ginger Ale! When someone with a huge passion for local craft distilling is creating alcohol, he can do no wrong. We saw a cool looking bottle at an Edmonton liquor store, shaped like an oil rig with a black wax seal to mimic oil and saw their distilling was in Edmonton. We promptly drove to Nisku, never one to pass up an opportunity to get a tour and tasting. Seemingly not open for visitors, we walked inside and immediately were greeted by Geoff, the most friendly and passionate distiller behind Big Rig. He took us on a tour of the place, showing us all their stills and hand bottling process. We got to see the tubs where their vodka was being infused with garlic and another with Saskatoon berries. The tour was down to earth and informative. We loved hearing about other Alberta distilleries, and the relationship they have together. After the tour we went to the tasting room - a very cool space with rig-like stools and a very cool looking bar. Geoff proceeded to let our group sample their gin, vodka, brum (a beet sugar rum), and a product called Double Double (a million times better than Baileys). The tour was free as was a caesar made with their garlic vodka, they only ask that you spread the word about their distillery. Did you know the only craft distillery in the Edmonton area was in an industrial park? That's the true story of Big Rig Distillery, which is a craft distillery that used locally sourced ingredients (some from only a 2km away), in Nisku. If you take Highway 2 south (from Edmonton) and get off at the first exit for Nisku (Hwy 625/20 Ave) it's on 8th Ave, and is definitely worth checking out. Big Rig has a tasting room, bar stools decked to look like oil rigs. This is where you can try some of the alcohol that they make. First though you should see about getting a tour of the distillery itself. The owner gave me a tour of the distillery, and he was so friendly and enthusiastic. You can come down for a tasting and tour when they are open, but they also rent out their tasting rooms for small events (would probably hold about 25 people) I learned about the different products they make. Big Rig mostly does vodka in several flavours like garlic (so good in the Caesar and this is from someone who doesn't like Caesars), Saskatoon berry, and Raspberry. They have a Bailey's type liqueur (with vodka) for coffee called Double Double, and it is my new favorite thing ever. There are also some other alcohols I didn't try like there gin and sugarbeet rum. Everything here is as local as can be, one of the grains comes from a farm about 2km away. I think the only thing that isn't local is the awesome big rig bottles. When I asked about where the bottles are manufactured the own said he tried really hard to find a local bottle company or one in Canada, but they were all fronts for ones in China. So that's the only import thing here. I love supporting local business like this and this one is well worth a detour. Don't forget to save the bottles. If you bring an old one back you'll get save a few bucks on your next purchase...and there'll definitely be a next purchase here. read more

Two words, Garlic Vodka. Sound weird, there are chunks of garlic floating in the bottle, it looks like a snow globe. Mix with Clamato juice and it's the ultimate Caesar. For real, this was crazy good. The distillery is in an industrial estate in Nisku, and guys... it's so worth the drive. I got a tour from the owner Geoff who told me about his past making moonshine and how his hobby became a dream job! He has a passion for local and it shows. All ingredients are locally sourced. There is a shop you can purchase one of over 30 products they make at Rig Hand. That's right, it's not just vodka! Got to say the bottles are really cool. Filled up and labeled by hand. Once the stopper goes in they dip in black wax so it looks like oil. 'Berta! There is a large function room you can hire and a smaller bar area. There is even an office dog. It's such a fun place. Completely unexpected super-high quality distillery located in Nisku. Creating craft spirits with ingredients sourced locally. Their gin made with Alberta wild rose hips was particularly incredible. Their vodka is made with the highest quality process with an attention to detail that you can taste--and it's unique in that they add 5% Alberta rye to the mix to give it a distinct taste of home. The owner is very outgoing and gave us an entertaining and informative tour. Apparently they also rent out the taste room which is a neat little spot with lots of historical Alberta artifacts including some prohibition-era stuff. Watch out Eau Claire, these guys are coming after you for the crown of Alberta distillers! read more

What a lovely evening! I was invited to a tour and tasting by a good friend, where I got to see behind the scenes and sample some of their delicious product. They make all sorts of fun stuff: vodkas, flavoured vodkas, gins, rums, whiskeys, and even flavoured liqueurs. I heard a rumor that they also recently acquired a brewing license . My favourites were the garlic vodka (vampires beware), the spiced rum, cherry vodka, and their coffee liqueur, which is apparently also their most popular . I also loved the fact that most of their ingredients are local. I will definitely be back for more! read more

Super knowledgeable staff that are super happy to walk you through the distilling process. They have an amazing tasting bar right on site to try all of their unique distinctly Albertan offerings. I bought a bottle of unaged rye that comes with a toasted ok stick so that you can "barrel age" it yourself. Pretty cool product and pretty cool that they use all alberta grains. If you have a chance I highly recommend a trip out to big rig to see what it's all about. They also give $2 per bottle for returns at the distillery! Better than 1p cents at the bottle depot. read more

I love this distillery! If you haven't picked up one of their products in a liquor store near you you must. Better yet, take the short journey to Nisku and take their tour. It's not a long tour, maybe an hour and a half including the tasting. You will get a tasting of what they have on offer and you'll be hooked. My all time favorite is their wildrose gin. The best ever. Don't need mix if you don't want it. You can taste the quality and appreciate the smoothness. Their Double Double is amazing. It makes Baileys taste like watery dishwater. Friendly place to have an adult field trip. Staff make it a great experience. Was never a Caesar drinker, but that garlic vodka has me drinking them now. The Brum is great on the rocks. Just do your self a favor and visit, or ask you local liquor store to carry it if they don't already. We saw the bottle in the store and found out this distillery opened and we didn't even know! We raced down to Nisku to take a look. From the outside it looks like another business building but inside we were greeted right away by the owner. With cool western antique décor and hilarious signs we were able to take a tour right away free of charge. At the end we also got a free tasting. They have a great social tasting room that they rent out for events. He said the local fire department stop by after work for drinks, and they have had a few bachelor parties and birthday parties as well. All his ingrediants are locally sourced. They work with groups mosltyl around the city and as far as innisfail and lethbridge to get all their ingredients in province.They only opened their doors in October and have made connections with the other distilleries in the province which is cool to know they are all working together to change the industry. Its awesome to see someone so passionate and excited about what they do. Creating unique blends that I got to say are superior to others we've tried. They also do custom creations for a large order, at the moment they were working on a raspberry vodka which was amazing! no artificial flavors. They had a garlic vodka which was perfect in a ceasar. My personal favorite was their Double Double. It's a chocolate liqueur which is far superior to Baileys, tasted as good as home made! no need to mix, would be perfect just over ice. This place has been operating purely through contacts and word of mouth. They are growing impressively and with this economy supporting local jobs and farmers. Everything is bottled and sealed on site by hand creating jobs. Would love to see them grow and in every store and bar. read more

Over priced bad moon shine the rye Is bad when I spend that kind of money for a jar I expect it to have a certain quality this is lacking it's has a hard start rough finish and an after taste that will make you put the bottle back on the shelf. This needs work guys I won't to support you guys but this is bad stuff read more
