Without trying to talk me into a full membership. Some gyms will try even though you tell them you don't live here. The equipment was very clean and in great shape. All the gym participants were reracking their weights and cleaning the equipment. Everyone was very friendly and courteous. The gym utilizes spray bottles and rags instead the stupid tubs of disposable wipes. Much less waste and easier to clean the equipment with. I did not see any broken equipment in the facility. There is a great selection of Cardio Equipment to include a Jacob's Ladder!! Not the largest gym but plenty of room to get your training completed. The smoothie bar's selection was reasonably priced, packed with what is useful and not much else. Will be dropping by the facility again on my future visits to Hamilton!!!!

However, the environment is very toxic to anyone new attempting to go in groups. I recently finally got my underweight much younger brother to go to the gym, and began teaching him basic barbell lifts with a pretty standard Starting Strength method. In the middle of a squat rep that my young brother did incorrectly (which I responded to by instructing him to rack the weight so we could the problem - excessive forward leaning), a man at the next rack began interjecting uninvited advice that he should "look up" since, according to him, "you're doing it wrong!". Not only is the.. "suggestion" inefficient form, as it prompts a more vertical back angle as has been heavily discussed in the strength training community (very notably by Mark Rippetoe), but the man interjecting the uninvited advice repeatedly and arrogantly stated "you're welcome", as if I should be thanking him for his demeaning demands. It turns out, because the man happened to be in a relationship with the owner (who was also present), even though not a trainer himself, it was my young brother and I who were chastised by the owner, insisting that we "keep [all manner of coaching] to [our]selves", but the arrogant, inefficient, and uninvited interjections of her boyfriend (himself not a trainer, apparently) were perfectly acceptable. This double standard on the part of the owner was very unprofessional, showing a blatant emotion-based favoritism and bias. The experience was very disheartening for my much younger brother, who was hoping for (and had expected, by my assurance) an accepting environment. Instead, he was put off from working out, and commented on how he personally felt unwelcome. Any gym is bound to have some opinionated people who give incorrect or harmful advice directed at those who never asked for it... but having that be hypocritically defended by the owner (who also insists we restrict the advice that was actually asked for) is just unacceptable. I cannot speak to the quality of the certified trainers there, but can say that the owner herself has little to no effort invested in keeping her business professional instead of personal. Uninvited advice that directly contradicts the expertise of trainers FAR more accredited than any you could find here in a valley in western Montana is not a good thing for anyone. And any place that accepts this (as long as you're dating the owner), but insists everyone else adhere to different and more strict rules is not a place you should want to be training.
