What a little gem this store is! Granted, the prices are definitely higher than a chain grocery store, but that is to be expected for a local market. They have a surprisingly good selection of ethnic foods and spices and carry a huge array of local craft beer. They also have a bulk section that is much bigger than I would expect for a small hometown market. Their produce is always fresh which is something I can appreciate. Right as you walk into the store, there is deli which also offers a hot section things like fried chicken and corn dogs. If you are in the Stevensville area, this is a great place to pick up any grocery items you may need without having to drive all the way to Missoula or Hamilton. read more

This place has a fantastic wine selection for the size of market and location. The buyer does an excellent job of sourcing lots of Old World, less commercialized varietals and producers at a reasonable price. Will be a devoted customer for this reason alone. Produce selection is also pretty solid. Meat department selection is lacking, but a friendly staffer was very kind to cut and package what I needed on the spot. Reason for 4 vs 5 stars? Check out experience. Less than friendly service every time. Lack of efficiency, seemingly zero motivation to get people rung up as quickly as possible. I'll tolerate way less than ideal service if done with a smile and a visible desire to do better. But when less than ideal service is coupled with an apathetic or even surly attitude? BFM is a very nice recent addition to downtown Stevensville. The A-framed, wood and stone building itself is old, but the current market - the products offered and buy local & organic philosophy behind it - is new. The management has taken a successful neighborhood model perfected at the Pattee Creek Market in South Missoula and introduced it into their new store. The wine and beer selections are especially appealing, along with a full range of fruits, vegetables, and bulk items. Local residents seem to like having this type of market in their community, judging by the foot and car traffic most days. It means that one doesn't have to drive to Missoula to get a nice bottle of wine for Sunday dinner (eg. a delicious Baumes-de-Venise GSM red from the southern Rhone, Walla Walla/Washington state wines from places like Saviah, Amavi, Dusted Valley/Boomtown, Charles Smith, often priced in the $15-20 range). I also like to pick up things like Tillamook cheddar in 2 lb. blocks, Franz organic breads from Portland, and organic herbs and vegetables that are nicely displayed in one corner of the store. Bread, cheese, wine, fresh produce - simple things, but very satisfying. BFM would make a perfect stop for a riverside picnic at the nearby Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge, or an afternoon cookout in the Sapphire Mountain foothills, with snow-capped St. Mary's Peak as backdrop. Whether you end up buying a little, or a lot, depends on what your needs are, but it's really nice to have a store of this quality in Stevensville, along with such standouts as the Mission Bistro (dinner, Sunday brunch) and Blacksmith Brewery. Locals are appreciative, but so too should be out-of-town visitors to the Bitterroot when they are passing through. read more

They are always out of their items they put "on sale" and will not offer a raincheck, flat out refused. They also will not offer a different product. No where in the advertisement are the words limited to stock on hand or a limit of the sale item. This is a frequent problem at this store. I am so disappointed with this business. I used to really enjoy going, not regularly, but when I needed a specific product that no one else in the area carries and I always go for the Boars Head lunch meat. The last 3 times I have been in no employee had a mask on, it was obvious that the mask mandate was not being enforced, which tells me they would rather make an extra buck than protect their neighbors. While I could detail other issues,long story short.... it all flows back to management. I will go out of my way now to go somewhere else for my items, which is unfortunate for me and the Fork. read more

BFM is expensive and please pay attention to the expiration dates. I bought beer and when I got home and started drinking I realized it had expired 5/5/2020 and when I told them they didn't care and the same thing happened when I bought rice cakes. They had expired 4/20 and when I told the cashier, her response she was I'll let the manager know. I went a few days later and the expired rice cakes were still on the shelf and last but not least I went 6/13/202 to buy Brie and it expired that day!!! We used to love BFM - it was great to be able to shop locally at such a well-stocked and friendly place. But not only are they not enforcing the mask order for customers, it seems they aren't even requiring staff to wear masks. If they can't even follow basic guidelines to protect their community, we won't be back. read more

Love this market. They carry tons of local produce and meat. We ask for Living River Farms chickens (from Stevensville) and they got them in right away. They are more than willing to special order in wine for you. They carry Nourishing Cultures kombucha at the front door. You just bring in your jar and fill it yourself. We were blown away by the amount of local items they had. Prices on organic items is way better than the chain stores. Fun to look around because of the amazing variety. read more

Great deli food! The guacamole and salsa, the fresh chips are great. Ask them to make you a breakfast burrito, it's amazing! The specials are good and they even make homemade bread pudding! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Special orders or requests? Not a problem. The wraps and sandwiches are great. The rest of the store has many specialty items you can't find in town.
