Counselor Sydnee Butcher needs training and support as an academic guidance counselor. Doesn't surprise me being trained by Elizabeth Irwin. When Sydnee first appeared last year, she was very vocal about change and supporting students. She stated she once was a student there and her experience there allowed her to identify areas of improvement. My experience with her is that is far from the truth. Sydnee doesn't perform any research nor does she fact check. She just blindly regurgitates what Elizabeth feeds her. My son is in a unique position and has aspirations for which he has set goals. While trying to reach those goals, Sydnee and Elizabeth have only worked to hold him back with hard stops. They are not helpful at all. You would think your academic guidance counselor wants students to succeed and instead of delivering hard stops, they will use their discretion (they have levels of discretion) to find ways and create opportunities to support that students success. If you are able to get your children into a different district. Please do so. You will not regret it. If you are not able, please listen to your children, the teachers and staff lack integrity. read more

The Band/Jazz Program is terrible. Do not go here to play music. The band program does not mentor, teach or encourage student musicians because its more about the ego of the band directors Murray & Evett. They discard anyone not already playing at a very high level. There is little to no instruction. Any local or national accolades they receive are a farce. The directors say some things are student run but that's just so they don't have to take any accountability. I would suggest any other band program Folsom HS, CKM, Kennedy. Any school band program in the Bay Area is also far superior. read more

My daughter started at Rio this year and has loved it since day 1! Teachers, staff are great and organized. There are alot of clubs, sports, and events. We were somewhat skeptical about the culture based on other reviews, but it has turned out to be a great experience so far. I recommend Rio to any parent who is looking for a traditional, academic-driven, high school for their child. read more

Every time I have to go to this school I immediately feel uncomfortable. The lack of diversity at this school is very concerning, among other features. Being exposed to different cultures and ideas is a very important part in adolescence, it helps you become a more open and considerate person, this is not the case at Rio Americano. This school also promotes negative attitudes and practices from it's students and is overall an unwelcoming place, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone wanting their student to be well adjusted. read more

My daughter hates this school, she's been there for several months now and not one kid has made her feel welcome. Everyone is her friend on social media but won't talk to her in person. She's had the worst high school experience so far. Unless your parents have money, lots of it then you'll be OK. read more

Great counselors and great, funny teachers. I'm the class of 2008, and I drive by the school every time I go back home. (Now a UC Davis kid) I remember having a lot of fun by being in journalism(newspaper/yearbook) and open periods. Funny gym teachers too! read more

The vice principal Mr.Snider is very unprofessional he will talk bad about your child to the other children.
