There was an extraordinary amount of paperwork to begin as a new patient, but once the paperwork was filled out ( About 7 pages front and back) it went rather smoothly. The doctor we got was very good, and nowadays getting to see an actual doctor is rare. I wish they had a digital process for gathering demographics and medical history to make the process more secure and efficient. The office: Might as well have those check in machines, they have at the labs and eye doctor offices now, for those of us that know how to use them and are not a new patient. The receptionists are very busy and are not allowed to discuss much. "I have to ask the supervisor " ect. Makes them seem unfriendly, but that is a management decision. This could be said for the demands put on the doctors too. You can tell the owners put pressure on doctors to see so many patients an hour.I'm already a patient, arrived on time, checked in and only waited 8 minutes To get in the back. Everything was fast after that, I really like Dr. Edinburgh. She is so knowledgeable and does care about me. Even when we were saying goodbye, she did stop at the door, to answer 3 questions I had thought of before leaving. I need another study, but will take 2 months before they can schedule me. Perhaps they need to stop taking new patients until they have time to breathe. There will always be patients when the time comes. Now last review: The office is packed and needs a day time cleaning person on staff. The nurse assistants even have to mop floors in the back bathrooms where samples are taken. They should be able to call for help before they are needed. Anywhere where old people are there will be mishaps. Well, I hope I addressed everything . This is my experience. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. This practice is the most unprofessional practice I have ever been to. I was diagnosed with BPH and Prostrate Cancer. The cancer is slow growing and will have to be monitored, no problem. The BPH however is extremely bad to the point I have to catharize myself which caused a UTI. I could not get in for treatment and had to go to urgent care. The staff is horrible, the medical assistants are worse, they will not return any calls when I leave messages. I could not even get the PA to renew my prescription she put me on for BPH and had to get my primary physician to call it in. One of the options to alleviate the BPH besides prostrate removal, or castration, (both out of the question) was a PAE procedure. I was undecided at the time this was offered two weeks ago but then after researching decided to have this done. For the last 10 days I have been trying to get a referral to a PAE specialist within their practice in El Paso and every day I am told the same excuse that the message has been sent to my provider and they are busy and will respond when they can. Really, 10 days and they don't have time? I have made it clear to them I want to get this procedure done before I go out of the country in June. It is very apparent that they don't give a sh.. about their patients. At this point I am going to find another Urologist that is not in their practice and I will never go back. Pathetic!!! read more

Spoke to the billing department about my deductible the day before the appointment. They told me $10; I went to the appointment and had to pay $159. I asked to be billed but they stated they do not have corporate backing and require money up front. Mrs. Montoya is the manager and supposed to call me. The billing person talked over me and argued, asking who I spoke to, as if I need to do that. Actually -- make SURE you get the name of people you speak to, as otherwise your word is not enough. read more

So the reviews of this place, particularly on Google seem to be mostly good yet at the same time between here on yelp and Google the comments are kind of all over the place. I personally found my experience with the staff that actually tended to me as well as the doctor to be quite nice. as well as repetitively apologized for the weight. Remaining professional at all times. Extremely pleasant. The doctor apologized for running behind and yet she was very personable. Found her lovely. Now let's talk about the front desk staff. They leave something to be desired. As one person put it very mechanical. Barely even looked at me. No high how are you? Kiss my ass or anything. Here's your form your co-pays. This will call you when you're ready. Found it to be rather rude not welcoming at all. Even as I was leaving and had to make a further appointment, the gal was also very mechanical no pleasantries she did say. Have a nice day when I was done but nothing like hi can I help you anything of that sort. Unfortunately, these are the reasons. I do not give this place a five. Worst medical professional experience that I have ever encountered. A year ago stopped treatment as I hated the doctor they assigned. I called a month ago asking if I could see another doctor as I would rather go untreated than to see Dr. Mauricio Davalos. My appointment was today and when I showed up today after waiting 4 weeks to see a "new" doctor and my appointment was with Davalos. I refused services demanded to speak to the office manager Jessica. Jessica is in the wrong career and needs to resign. She didn't care about my situation, refused to refund me as I refused care under Davalos. It's sad that a medical facility doesn't care about their patients and only about the money! I will dispute all charges as fraud! read more

The epitome of incompetence. I can't speak to the quality or professionalism of the doctors but the only way you'll get to them is through their profoundly inept front office staff. I made an appointment well in advance and still given 27 days between then and my appointment they could not manage to obtain records from previous urologist. I'm sparing you a lot of details. You may have better luck but unless you want to add to the already stressful event of having to see a urologist, I would ask around for a better recommendation. I waited 3 weeks to get an appointment and watched as people went in after me were seen ahead of me....after 2 hours I mentioned to the office staff I was dependant on the Medical Smart bus, and needed to see the Dr. ASAP....PLEASE! The girl looked me up and down, and stated the Dr. would see me when he would see me. After another hour, I canceled the appointment, and got up and left. I was in the medical field for over 30 years and this type of treatment is intolerable! Dr. DAVALOS WAS CANDID AND VERY PROFESSIONAL! He was very honest and up front...didnt bother to come on out and spill da kidney beans(stones). Right from the get-go he said my daddy was gonna be all right!! No surgery needed, and pleasantly sent us on our way! Don't know why there are so many negative reviews of RGU. As for myself, the staff and Dr. Bagg are great. Excellent urologist and surgeon. Wait times are a bit long, but Dr. Bagg has a very busy practice, so, understandable. I would recommend Dr. Bagg to anyone. read more

Recently had a vasectomy with Dr Lozano, though I went in incredibly nervous the experience was relatively painless and as pleasant as these things can be. He extensively discussed the procedure with my wife and I and in no way pressured us to have the procedure, rather advising us to do what was best for our family. He really put my mind at ease. I will be blunt - I have not been able to get in to see any of the doctors at Rio Grande Urology, as they will not take my insurance (through Blue Cross Blue Shield) as a new patient. I suffer from chronic prostatitis, and the symptoms have been bad lately, and I have not been able to get the care that I need. I have called twice - once to make an appointment with Dr. Davalos, the second time to (try) to make one with Dr. Bagg, and I have been turned away both times. The first time, I offered to pay out of pocket, and was told it would be double-billing (only true if they charge both me and my health insurance for the visit) and I was left to deal with the symptoms for myself. This review is not a judgment on any of the doctors - both Dr. Davalos and Dr. Bagg are well-regarded, and I'm sure they're very fine urologists. The review, however, is intended to show clearly - if you are a new patient, your health insurance may end up being the biggest obstacle to you getting the care that you need. And for that reason, I would not recommend this particular outfit. The fact that they would turn away someone who is in pain is cold and not what one would expect from folks who have entered into a profession, ostensibly, to help people. As a business that's involved in healthcare, that is more troubling than anything else. As of this review, I still have not been able to get the care that I need - to be fair, Dr. Bagg's staff did, at my request, recommend a urologist on the other side of town from me, but with my symptoms, getting to him is going to be problematic and painful - Rio Grande Urology is much closer to where I live, and it would have been helpful to get care from such highly recommended doctors. I have no malice towards any of the doctors here, but I do think it is important that people are aware of Rio Grande Urology's current policies and the possibility that they will be turned away when they really need the help. read more
