I had Pete do two projects for me. The first was a privacy wall and some sub floor work. The…read moreprivacy wall came out amazing. But the sub flooring he put the wrong size material so now I have noticeable edges between the old floor and the new section (which unfortunately is in the middle of the room). I then had Pete come back out to remodel a bathroom for me. This project was a complete disaster. His demo guy chipped my bath tub (Pete tried to fix it but just made it look worse). The tile is installed really bad. Some tiles are not level and few of the grout lines match up. He went WAY over budget, tried to charge me for materials that I provided, and took three weeks to do a one week job. Pete himself was rarely working on the job he had three people who didn't know what they were doing work on it with little to no guidance. After working with Pete on these two projects I am pretty sure his real skill set is around wood working. If you have a project that is anything else you should call someone else.

The project in question is the porch column renovation in his pictures. Not only was the…read morecommunication poor, but the work was substandard, the wrong kind of wood for exterior application was used, columns have already started to rot and the porch is not properly supported from an engineering point of view. Unfortunately I was not there enough to supervise and ask questions and did not get enough details in my estimate (my mistake). When I did ask questions, rather than giving a reasonable explanation, I was met with a "what do you know about my work" attitude. Perhaps Pete is someone who could build you a nice piece of interior furniture but I would not recommend him for any kind of exterior work. Finally, he did not get a permit from the city of Philadelphia, either for the construction or the historical review (again, my mistake for not insisting). We are going to have to find another contractor to redo the work.
