So much to unpack here ... There were four of us for dinner and they seated us at a strange table for six, and so we were kind of spaced out too much. They gave us only two menus for the four of us which was annoying. The soup came out first and the other three of us had to wait so much longer for our entrees to come out. They too came out staggered, and since the chicken ribs came out SO late, they were still eating them as their main meal came out. I hate that. Cutlery was practically thrown at us. No class or care. Didn't find any of the staff warm or friendly at all, sadly. The one redeeming feature is that the food is nice. Is it the best Chinese food I've ever eaten? No. But it would scratch an itch if you're craving it. Also, just pray that if you order the Sweet and Sour Chicken like I did, that it's not drowning in sauce, as the batter then goes soggy and the cutlery gets sticky and sauce ends up on the table. Sadly, I wouldn't return here. There was no warmth, atmosphere or anything inviting, and some dishes were dirty. In support of a friend who is currently researching for a business concept involving dumplings, my husband and I have visited a LOT of dumpling / dim sum / yum cha venues. To put this into perspective, next week we're travelling to asia to do just that. Anyhow, I digress. The point is we get through a lot of steamed (and fried) parcels of deliciousness. Ripples in Bentleigh (not the other Ripples which I'm lead to believe is less than fabulous) is rather tremendous. Take a look at the pictures I've uploaded and you'll see how fresh everything is. This is now amongst our new favourites in Melbourne. So why only four stars? Well... the debate at our table came to the conclusion that you can't give a place 5 stars when you've only been once. Surely at least a star should be reserved for consistency. Anyone can have a great experience once. It's really not my thing, but I'll also say this - Ripples is extremely child friendly. read more

Try the duck. Boned. Don't dip in their hoy sin sauce brew, but just enjoy the magnificent meat. We get half duck, rice and mixed green veges as a meal for 2. Perfect with sparkling Shiraz. ( bleasdale is our weapon of choice). We also get chilli fresh and chilli oil on side. The juice from duck on rice( fried) with chilli oil. Yes. Bentleigh is lucky to have this busy,smart and pretty consistent Chinese restaurant. Service is fast and professional. Their chick omelette , banana fritter are also wonderful. read more

Excellent Yum Cha on a weekday. Staff are a bit stand-offish and weird but the place is decent and the food was excellent. Most of the dumplings were great as were the extra fried rice and Chinese broccoli we ordered. I'd come back here. read more

Sometimes you find great places in the strangest places. Who would have though that there would be a good yum cha restaurant in Bentleigh? And yet, there it is! All the standards are on offer, and they are all good quality. The egg tarts in particular a great - light flaky pastry, not too sweet.It's a nice venue too - modern decor and good staff. Four decades ago I started eating Yum-Cha meals in Melbourne...then only available on Sunday mornings. Since then I have eaten a huge number of yum-chas in Chinatown until discovering Bentleigh's Ripples which I rate as "as good as it gets" after eating there many times. read more

The food is tasty but always rushed service and the duck comes semi cold every time:(( very pricey

Very average food. I had some calamari tentacles which were horribly overcooked. I pointed this out to floor staff but was ignored. The other three dishes I had were quite nice. Upon paying bill I once again pointed out the overcooked calamari but they weren't interested either .Never going back. read more
