Being used to the eclectic and energetic vibes of city life, we had inhibitions in how she would take to attending such a small and quiet school. Along with her previous classmates and guides, she was used to walking the streets of Brooklyn, taking the ferry to Manhattan, and walking to various public parks. When we arrived to see Guidepost Montessori at Fairfax, we were struck by its quaintness. The children have their own play area in the back of the schoolhouse, surrounded by a picket fence. It is intimate, yet spacious enough for all of the children to enjoy. The school is very clean and organized. The classrooms are set up in typical Montessori fashion, with the added charm of displayed artwork made by the pupils. The faculty takes the time to decorate for the seasons and holidays. The most charming and wonderful aspect of this school is the faculty. From the Head of School, the Administrative Director, to the Lead Guides, Assistant Guides and After School guides, everyone is kind, caring, patient and gentle, and respectful. They immediately treated our family as one of their own. They are the reason our daughter loves going to school each day. She has flourished under their care and guidance and we cannot thank them enough.

We ended up leaving but the amount of tuition they charge (and it keeps increasing every few months) is crazy for what we're getting. pot holes in the parking lot go unfixed, their signage on the awning got taken down (both did) now its a blank space that looks like something should be there. The inside has not great lighting and wall colors, it looks kind of dim/depressing, instead of bright and clean. I don't know where all this tuition money is going. It could use a facelift and better playground. The school aged kids room has 2 men as the sole providers and I asked if there were ever female assistants or helpers in there and was pretty much told " i know there's a stigma against male daycare teachers." Ok?? sorry males are responsible for 75-90% of the crimes I'm worried about. And Males constitute the majority of "offending" child care providers/babysitters reported to the police (77%) So I don't think that was a ridiculous question or even something ridiculous to be concerned about. And her lack of concern towards MY concerns was unsettling. We also had multiple incidents with my preschooler, one she told me the teacher grabbed her face because she wouldn't wash her hands, and it hurt. They didn't really do anything about it except, apparently, ask the teacher if she did that and she said no. Ok....Why would a 3 year old make up something so random? The preschool teacher also had a loud bell she would ring to get the kids to pay attention which my 3 year old was scared of and she had sensory issues with loud sounds after that started happening, she would freak out at any loud sound and it didn't stop until after we pulled her out. Another incident in the preschool classroom was that they were trying to get all the kids to be quiet and so they told them that here's a monster out in the hallway of the school and if they don't be quiet the monster will come in. So naturally, my 3 year old told me about this, very scared, and was scared of monster in the school and at home, especially at bed time, for awhile. Again, told the front desk, I don't think anything was done about it. My 3 year old went here for a year. She cried almost every day at drop off. She hated going there. I thought it would ease up eventually but it never did. My school ager liked the kids but that was about it. One of the school aged teachers even apparently sat there and told the kids he doesn't like them and what he doesn't like about each one, and some kids cried. I'm just glad I'm out of this money suck. It is not up to the standards that the local competition has, and shouldn't be charging the same tuition as the local competition. I would not recommend this place.

It is a very safe and loving environment, where everyone knows the names of my children. The center's directors, Hina and Saafia, run a very tight ship. What can I say about Meeta? She is a wonderful caring and a compassionate caregiver. My son is a picky eater and she would make food that he liked so he wouldn't go hungry. She is gentle at the same time firm with the children. The place is always spotless, and very well organized, and that seems to spill over to the kids, my son definitely got more orderly after going there. I would highly recommend parents who are nervous about sending their child to daycare for the first time. It is home away from home for the children.

At the end of…read morethe day, you'll need to visit them and go with your gut even though you might get glowing recommendations from acquaintances, friends, family....and a total stranger, like me. I'll share my experience. I knew I had hit the jackpot when my kids were saying things like: "Why did you come so early to pick me up?", "Can you come back later", "Can you wait?", "Can you pick up my brother instead, then come back for me?", "But mom.....I just got to playscape...and I want to play!" We have been part of the TGS family for the last 7.5 years since both kids went there. The school opened in Oct 2014, and we enrolled our then 3-mo old in May 2015. (The 2nd one went in at 8 weeks old!) It was not our first choice because it was so new, and there weren't many reviews posted, so we went with an established daycare provider close to 28 and 50. It did not go well at that location, and luckily, TGS had an opening. We enrolled and it has been very good for my family. It made me realize what was important in choosing a daycare: 1. Responsiveness of school administration. I've never needed to leave a voicemail, and emails were responded to within a couple of hours. 2. Teacher turnover. While turnover is expected, there are some teachers still there who were present before we enrolled! 3. Being accommodating for unique needs. Nebulization? Sure. Wiping down cranial band at intervals? No problem. Use gluten-free bread on grilled cheese day for my son? Of course! I felt comfortable asking for these things because I felt like we were on the same team. 4. Teacher-Parent communication. Teachers were honest in letting me know how the kids were doing. This could be anything from behavior issues, to asking for advanced workbooks to be sent in because my kids were bright enough to handle it. Also, they were pretty good about sending updates and photos so I had a good idea what was going during the day. 5. Opportunities to move. Kids have a TON of energy. A huge sell was the playscape. It's raining/freezing out. No big deal, they go to the playscape! They do dance parties, yoga, musical chairs and other movement-centric activities in the classroom, but nothing burns energy like running around for free play. 6. Preparedness for kindergarten/public school. The transition to public school has been much easier due to the routines they followed at TGS. They were also confident since they were familiar with what they were learning during the school day. They learned a lot at TGS through brief, instructive periods, free play (building/STEAM-type toys, books, costumes, toy kitchen, etc.), and art and got far ahead academically without having to sit all day like they do in public school. The kids were able to read on their own (e.g., Dr. Seuss) toward the end of pre-K. 7. Enjoyment. Do the kids look happy? Are they having fun? Do they go in willingly, or put the brakes on? Are they talking about things that they did at school and their friends? Are they proud of their art/creations/worksheets? YUP. 8. Facilities. Safe? Secure? Clean and well maintained? Yes to all. Also, toys and books get replaced. I've seen toys *actually* get cleaned too, since kids can be pretty gross and germy. 9. Coverage. The hours of operation, coverage on some holidays and inclement weather modifications (e.g., delayed start, early dismissal) met our needs. Also, summertime coverage ("Camp Gardner") was always a special time for my kids and they always looked forward to the special visitors, events and treats woven into the schedule. There are some negative reviews here. I skimmed through them and noticed they were all from 2016. Administration and staff changed that year. That's when Sara Shoulers came onboard. She runs a tight ship, and reviews post 2016 are positive. There are also 8 reviews that are not recommended, BUT they are all positive (?!). I wish I had chosen TGS first - but I didn't because it didn't have many reviews, and the other daycare was recommended to me by a trusted friend. Well- she had a good experience there, and I did not. Either way, set up an appointment to tour the school, then go with your gut. Our time at TGS lifted a lot of stress and anxiety off my plate since I knew my kids were well cared for. I felt good about dropping them off every morning.

I absolutely love this school. My almost two year old was at a different school for about 4 months…read morewhile I waited to get off the waitlist at the Gardner School. At the other school my child was sick a lot, the staff did not communicate when there were known cases of sickness amongst the children and they did 0 crafts in 4 months. The Gardner School has been a complete 180. I have seen the staff cleaning after the children eat, play, etc. The management staff is phenomenal when it comes to communication. I love the way the staff interacts with the children. They do a craft every day, and I get pictures throughout the day! It's already hard enough having to leave my child to go to work, but I always know what is going on through regular updates in the app. If they are low on diapers, wipes, or need additional spare clothes, it is communicated through the app. The best part, in 6 months, my child has not been sick once. I cannot say enough good things about the Gardner School. I'm especially thankful because they make leaving my child to go to work a little bit easier because I know she will be taken care of.

She and her team are genuinely loving, they provide healthy home-cooked meals, and they let the kids spend lots of time outside whenever possible. Ms Fahimeh and her team are so emphatic, always ready to share their experience and report what the kids have done during the day, which is always something fun. Our youngest never once cried at drop-off, it's really that kind of place. We're very grateful for all the love and care they've given our kids. Definitely recommended.

She is also an amazing cook and makes the most delicious, healthy food for the kids. Our daughter loved going and it always felt like we were dropping her off with a family member.
