I read they are fresh pork ribs that are apple smoked in house. The meat tasted hearty, and it had a delicious glaze. I ended up sharing it as it was a very large portion as a starter. We all nibbled on a Grazing Board to share. The vegetarian 'Med" Board had a selection of cheese, olives, bread, etc. Nice way to sample Mediterranean flavours and put off the hungry feeling. For my main I ordered the Devonshire Braised Ox Cheek. This was one of the best Ox Cheek I have ever had! (it was my first ox cheek I've ever had) But after having it at this restaurant I wouldn't want to order it anywhere else as I now have very high standards. It was very succulent and soft, almost as if it melted in my mouth! The meat was on a bed of delicious horseradish mash ladled with red wine jus. It also came with a side of honey glazed carrots. I'm not normally a cooked carrots fan, but I had to make myself stop eating them as they were so good! This meal was massive and I offered to share some of it with my family. My Husband enjoyed a huge stuffed and grilled Rainbow Trout, and our parents got the Chicken and Pomegranate salad and Mixed Grill. Everyone was super happy with their decisions and there was more than enough food to satisfy us all. I was definitely full by the end, but I couldn't resist the desserts menu. Although they have an award winning cheese selection, I wanted something sweet, so I got the Apple & Blackberry crumble with cornish ice cream and single cream. There's a really good bar menu of soup of the day, sandwiches with hand cut chips and salad, but also salads and full dishes, as well as the à la carte menu of starters, mains and desserts, or the steak menu of four kinds of steak with four kinds of sauces plus side orders, so plenty of choice to suit every taste. I went for the bar food of soup of the day which was a mint pea soup and the full dish of fish and chips with tartar sauce. The soup came with three pieces of warm ciabatta, my favourite! So that pleased me a great deal, as I am not a fan of pea soup, but I was happy to try it, as I really wanted some soup. The pea soup consisted of small chunks of cucumber, small pieces of string beans, peas and watercress, a very green dish and did not taste minty at all, looked good and tasted fine. It was served on a bed of potato wedges with salad and a little tub of mushy peas as well. My companion chose the 10oz steak from the a la carte menu with peppercorn sauce. This was actually a good size, well cooked with peppercorn sauce that also had a spice kick. I had a taste and it was very nice indeed. The bar served draft beers, and there is live music here on Saturday and Sunday nights. Sunday lunch looks good value at £16 for three courses too. Pity we are not local, but only here for the day.
