Just plain terrible. I first visited a couple of months ago, and I found the coffee pretty abysmal. I didn't review until I tried it again, it may have been a one off. I have to say, still the same. I ate an Ultimate Burger, £8.50. There was nothing ultimate about it. A very disappointing tasting burger: served in a brioche bun, with cheese, slice of tomato, lettuce and an oddly tasting bacon chutney. Sided with fries and coleslaw. This place really falls behind the competition, such as Yorks Bakery Cafe, or amazing coffee from Faculty.

Sometimes only tea and toast will do

4 hours later through breakfast and lunch I sat, I drank tea and worked on my assignment. What a busy place today, meetings and parties etc. 2nd visit for me and again no skimmed milk just whole or soya which was not suitable for me. However, I stayed and enjoyed granary toast with jam and butter at breaki and sausage and lentil soup for lunch which was filling and very flavoursome - it was served with huge wedges of fresh granary bread and butter - a hearty lunch for a 'winters' day. Yummy! I love the fact you can help yourself to water from the fountain, more places should do this! Nice touch. Thank you guys.

I had to be up extra early to take my theory test (ugh) and was looking for a nice place to grab breakfast. I wandered two blocks away from my test site and stumbled upon this place. I recognized the name and discovered I had bookmarked it. Hurray! This restaurant was a lot larger than it looks on the outside. Many other reviewers mention how difficult it can be to find a table. Luckily I was early enough to avoid this problem. There are chairs, high top tables, small tables, and big tables for groups. I always like how charming coffee shops can be with seating. There were many delicious looking baked treats on display and a really nice mason jar set up showing off summer tea drinks. I was impressed by the interior and set up. I ordered myself a chai latte (my standard drink if you've read my reviews) and an eggs benedict. The chai took a big longer than I thought considering the place was pretty empty. However, it was worth the wait and really sweet and delicious. The eggs benedict didn't take too much longer. It shocked me how massive it was. It was one huge english muffin half with two poached eggs, ham, and loaded with hollandaise sauce. It was good, but too large and was swimming in the sauce. But compared to other coffee shops I've tried it was the cheapest price. The employees seemed very friendly. One woman came over during my meal to make sure everything was ok. I don't see that much in coffee shops. Don't think this place isn't worth a visit due to my 3 stars. I still plan on going back someday to try lunch or maybe one of the tasty looking desserts. It's definitely worth a shot if you're ever in that end of town.

Yesterday was the opening day of @BTPcafes so it's no coincidence that I trekked all the way across town to see if they are as good as they say. First off, there is likely to be updated review as no-one is expected to get it right on day one. However, this is what they have got right: Space. There is loads of it and I don't the stuff on Star Trek. BTP have gone for the trad diner look; all red leather booths and benches, loads of them. If there is a group, there are long sofas or large tables, for meetings smaller booths for 4 or for working on your own there are small tables. Coffee is hot. I don't really ask for much more. The only reason I have an Americano (it's not on the menu, I think they call it House Coffee, which I much prefer!) in coffee shops is because I like my coffee hot to sip whilst working and whereas I have filter at home, it gets too cold in coffee shops. Plus, this being day one, it was cold but I'm sure the heating will be adjusted once they settle in. Wi-Fi worked first time. Food. And then there's the food, all baked and cooked on the premises. Not one for sandwiches or cold food generally (except cheesecake, see below) I like a cafe situation when hot food is available. No doubt I'll be returning for lunch or more likely one of my two favourite meals of the day, brunch! Apart from hot sandwiches, burgers and salads there is the all-day-breakfast; possibly the 3 finest words when said together. Eggs or bacon every which way are up for grabs plus kedgeree, porridge, scotch pancakes and a plethora of kiddie friendly meals. Cake. Yes this is a separate section (regular readers won't be surprised). There is a huge selection of cakes and many of them are affordable every day treats (a few for Saturday afternoons). They lay their brownies out on huge trays, no dainty cake holders for the BTP guys. I'm not one to ordinarily have cheesecake in the middle of the day (on a school night too!) but being the self proclaimed international cheesecake expert, oh, go on then. The cheesecake looks delightful, made as an individual round portion, enough for two and yes I did share with the BF, It's fluffy and light with a contrasting weighty digestive base. It felt like a very British, in fact West Country, cheesecake with it's heavy reliance on fluffy, double cream. Happy staff. The coffee maybe the best in the land, the cakes may be made to my taste and even the brunch may be served super quick but there's only one thing that makes me go back and that's service with a smile and a joyous lack of coffee shop pretentiousness; BTP simply aim to please and I look forward to enjoying their warm hospitality long after opening day. All in all, I extend a warm welcome to the south west's litte chain, Boston Tea Party to Birmingham. Long may you keep us warm, fed and happy.

Latte and (so bad but tastes so good) pancakes w/bacon and maple syrup.

As mentioned in my comment earlier, it's here! It could be that as a Yank abroad I'm trying to find places that make me feel more at home around these parts. I've actually been going here quite a lot since opening and finally just posting a review now. My bad. This place really hit the spot for me from the first moment I walked in (I looked at the menu online before coming here and knew what I wanted straight away too). BTP is roughly about a 5-10 minute walk from New Street station (just go straight up to Corporation Street), and it's not far from House of Fraser or the major shopping areas either for those of you over Costa/Caffe Nero/insert ubiquitous chain here. And while I do like cosy places, this branch is spacious, which is great for either peak times or the claustrophobes (did I just make that up?) not wanting to feel cramped but jonesing for a great cup of coffee and a good size breakfast. I opted for that and pancakes w/maple syrup and crispy bacon. (Sometimes, bacon can be a good thing!) The baked goods didn't look too shabby either, but I'll sample them another time. Thanks, BTP, for the fix :)

    A depart from the norm!

Mixed reviews of BTP... On one hand, their herbal tea selection is very good and you get a big pot of tea (which can be shared) for not too much dosh - on the other hand, a cup of coffee isn't cheap and certainly isn't the best in Birmingham. Avoid lunchtime or bacon sandwhiches in the morning. The queue can be quite long and you can suffer a bit of a wait. We've had both good and bad experiences here. When the snow hit - BTP were offering free cake with every coffee purchase, which was a nice way to get people in (and it certainly worked). It's well worth keeping an eye on their various social network pages as they do post up offers for "fans". Worth a visit - but the levels of service definately depend on how busy they are at the time.

Looking for food in evening and happend to be around Corporation Street. I suggested this place to my friends. I have been here fpr breakfast but haven't tried anything else on menu. Walked up to here and we thought it was closed as there was no one inside. I've been here twice and it's always buzzing. Went in to ask and turns out it was open (should've read the times on door) Grabbed menu at the front and found a spot to sit. Menu is simple to understand. I never had burger from here and wanted to try the chicken one. One of my friend went for breakfast which they serve all day, and the other a beef or lamb burger not sure. Being the only people there was great, got to ask for suggestions of drinks and teas from staff when ordering, and didn't feel like we have to rush because of queue.I got a glass of fresh orange juice Food arrived in no time. The chicken burger was AMAZING. The flavour was just too good, you can tell it was marinated well. Chicken was tender, bun was wholemeal which was soft and fresh. Everything on menu is made from scratch and you can tell. Coleslaw was so good and fries were crispy. Both of my friends was their first time in BTP and they loved their food. We even got a scone and tea after meal which was so good. Walked out very happy and full. Would definately come back here again. Now I have to debate what to get when I next visit this place, burger or breakfast.

    Cake plate!

I have no idea how I managed to not visit BTP for so long! I am a bad Yelper when gems like this escape me. In fact I'm so bad my mother who lives in Druckers (not that there is anything wrong with Druckers) had to suggest it! Our original plan had been to go for afternoon tea. But afternoon tea isn't served until 2pm and we were there at about half 12. It was busy as it was the lunch rush but we managed to quickly find a seat and the queue wasn't too bad. A lovely member of staff told us that instead of afternoon tea, a cake plate and toasties was pretty similar for the same price. I was very impressed with the loose leaf tea and the sieve/strainer thingy in the tea pot. We went with the ham and cheese toastie and the goats cheese one. The ham and cheese was good, the ham was so thick it was pretty much bacon. I was a little underwhelmed with the goats cheese, mostly because I didn't think there was enough onion marmalade. The star of the show was the cake plate. It came with the biggest scone I have ever seen! It was huge and still warm in the middle. The chocolate brownie was pretty much pure chocolate fudge in the middle which was lovely. I wasn't too happy with the lemon cake which just wasn't that lemon-y and was a tad dry. Overall, very happy and I will be visiting again. Now I'm looking forward to the new branch opening in Harborne soon.

It`s all about eggs and salmon.

It's becoming an obsession already but every time I want to treat and spoil myself with a nice (and decent) breakfast in town, I trek down to BTP. I mean treating because it's not a cheap place to eat. It's true! You can easily spend a tenner or two in a simple brekkie for two but I so like this place and its food that i don't mind paying a bit more. There is something about seating in those red booths, contemplating the terracotta building on the opposite side of Corporation street that make me like more and more this place. Last brekkie at BTP was also a truly spotted one and after a night of some (many) drinks,I always think that a bit of salmon and eggs can sort me out. So, Eggs Royale it was and it was divine. I know, it's almost £7 but I don't mind paying extra if as soon as I put my eyes on it, I am happy with the presentation. The taste was also good and I don`t regret one single penny spent on it! The staff at Boston Tea Party is also something to put your eyes on! With all respect! I never see a place with so many good looking people serving you in Brum. I've already recommend the place to single friends, of course! But It would be irrelevant if the staff wasn't gentle or kind. They are both! And smiles and good service is just an extra. I can start another page to talk about the cakes and teas but I think it was already highlighted for those who visited the place. I worship their latte! Free wi-fi and wicked poster for coffeeholics ( like me, myself and moi) are also available in the place.

    Boston Breakfast. The best!

Boston Tea Party has to be one of the best tea shops in Birmingham. Originally started in Bristol the brand has spread across the South West with Birmingham being one of the first of it's cafes outside of this region. They are a family owned company who realise that "Being bigger is not always better & we want to remain a cafe to be discovered, recommended & returned to". The Birmingham cafe can be found at the very top of corporation street, which can be a bit of a walk to get to but is well worth the time of foot. It's also round the corner from Eastside City Park so is a great place to pop into beforehand. Offering, in my opinion, one of the best cooked breakfasts in Birmingham (The West Country Breakfast) which is available all day for a great price of just £6.95. it also has a fantastic cake selection freshly baked on site which my housemate, a keen baker, loves and recommends. The drink offering is as you would expect up to scratch too offering a wide range of fantastic loose leaf teas in individual teapots with strainers as a nice touch. Don't be fooled however, they do offer coffee, soft drinks and even beers and ales.

I recently discovered Boston Tea Party on my ongoing search for the best brunch in Birmingham. You can read about my verging on obsession with the fact that you can add avocado to your eggs here: http://abeginnersguidetobirmingham.tumblr.com/post/107120626278/my-hunt-for-the-best-brunch-in-brum I absolutely loved this place. And I'm difficult to please when it comes to breakfasts! If you want good eggs and good coffee I would rate this one pretty highly on the brum brunch scale.

Visited here last week for the millionth time for brunch with a friend. It was a Saturday and crazily busy but the staff were still lovely and food was a decent time to wait for. I had the superfood salad which was really yummy and a ginger ale which had the prettiest bottle (I kept it for a flower holder). For dessert I had a scone with lashings of cream and jam with an earl grey tea. It was around four quid which is pricey but worth it for how tasty it was.

Boston tea party can get busy

Boston Tea Party is located on the busy corporation street opposite the rather beautiful red brick law courts. It's a great location and quite often at full capacity. There's several areas to sit, if your wanting to work there's benches, if your going to be around for a while they also have booths. One of the main reasons I come here is for the buzz! BTP (Boston Tea Party) have a all day breakfast available and typically brunch type dishes. On this particular occasion I had avocado and humous on toasted rye topped with poached eggs and red chillies. It's not a huge portion but the rye bread certainly does fill you. The avocado and humous actually make a surprisingly good combo which is actually moreish. The red chillies added a slight kick which I also enjoyed. The poached eggs were also great and cooked to the correct time. The coffee here is good but nothing special. Something I would expect from a typical canteen. The cakes and baked goods are fantastic and there's always a gluten free option available. If your looking for a quick breakfast fix and enjoy the hustle and bustle of neighbours get down to the BTP. They also now have a branch in harborne!

When I first started with Yelp, I threw this question to the masses; "Where is the best tea shop in…read moreBirmingham?". One of the first recommendations I received was the Edwardian Tea Room. Now, I have always known this place existed - but never had a chance to visit. This was finally rectified last week. The Edwardian Tea Room is housed within the fantastic Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (on Victoria Square). You need to head in the building, up the stairs and through the shop and the Buddha exhibit to find it. Decorated beautifully, the tea room really does feel like you've stepped back in time. No music plays in the background, but you can hear the murmur of conversation, the scraping of chairs along the floor and the clanging on trays as the staff clean up the empty tables. The menus are displayed on the wall (rather than individually on tables). You need to head up to the counter and order before you find a table (although if you're in a group, you would do well to bag a table first). The Tea Room (as you would expect) has a large selection of cakes (and tea, of course). A slice of cake and a pot of tea is a bargainous £2.95 - meaning it's a wallet safe alternative to some of the more hipster coffee and tea shops in the centre of town. Again, as previously mentioned, it's very popular with an older crowd due to the prices. However, on my visit their were older visitors, young people and families (who were catching their breath after trekking around the huge museum). I grabbed a herbal tea (£1.60) and took a seat in the large room to do a little bit of work while I enjoyed my hot drink. As well as tea, coffee and cake, there is a varied menu on offer for very reasonable prices. A large fish and chips (with all the trimmings) and a cup of tea was around £7.50. Not too bad, and they offer many other hot options too. Even on my many trips to BMAG, I haven't ever taken the opportunity to visit the Tea Rooms. Following my trip last week, there is a good chance I'll be back JUST TO visit the tea rooms.

As I said, it's completely lovely. It was re-decorated about a year ago, which improved an already lovely space. Mis-matched furniture and big prints of Edwardian ladies sit perfectly in the lovely, big, light room. There are tables for big groups and soft chairs for cosy coffees. I've had a fish finger sandwich here which was nice but nothing to write home about. I've also tried the afternoon tea which was lovely, especially the cakes. It's not a particularly fancy afternoon tea but it makes a lovely lunch. The highlight here is really the space and the atmosphere- definitely worth spending some time in.

I went here with my wife and two friends as part of a yelp event. First off, I should say that I'm an avid meat eater and don't typically go for vegetarian fare. However, Marmalade is the kind of restaurant that makes me want to eat vegetarian (or at least close to it) regularly. As an appetizer I got the coffee infused lamb rump with a prune glaze, sweet potato mash, and edamame beans. It came paired with The Duke of Earl non-alcoholic aperitif which was made with fresh lemon juice, jasmine and peach syrups, and chilled earl grey tea. Both of these were excellent. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the combination of flavors and ingredients was particularly unique. For the main course I got the marmalade garbanzo: chickpea patties served in a Mediterranean stew (with carrots, courgettes, and a couple other veggies) with balsamic glaze. I wasn't sure what to think at first because I thought this meal as a main wouldn't be very filling, but boy was I wrong. It came with three giant chickpea patties (essentially giant falafals) which I almost couldn't finish. They were delicious and were very tasty drenched in the stew sauce, so I powered through. I got the Captain Ahab's Grog, which was recommended with this meal, that consisted of Brugal Dry Spiced Rum, Ginger Preserve, Apricot Liqueur, Plum bitters, and pomegranate juice. This was my favorite beverage of the evening. Additionally, the drink paired particularly well with food and I found myself eating a bite and having a sip immediately afterwards so the flavors would mix. For dessert, I got the coconut panna cotta with pineapple, mint, and chili. Again, there's nothing bad I can say about this. It was delicious. I also got the Eu Te Amo cocktail which consists of Bombay Sapphire gin, Framboise Syrup, lime, and conde villar vegan wine. Now, I don't typically like gin or wine, but despite this I enjoyed this beverage (albeit not as much as the others). Last, but certainly not least, I want to comment on the great customer service we received. Our server, Faye, was attentive, helpful, and just plain nice. I very highly recommend Marmalade and will definitely be back there myself!

Nom nom nom nom. Service was friendly and attentive, and the menu was quite reasonable! Definitely worth going for a pre or post-theatre meal, or any other day of the week for that matter. I'll be back!
