Pulling my friend into his office and yelling at him for disrespecting martial arts. As my friend walks out he mouths to me," get me the fuck out of here." As anyone would respond to a situation like such, I than start getting yelled at being told me friend is extremely disrespectful. While I kept calm tone I was being yelled at this entire time and I decided to say, we should continue this later where kids are not present to where it was brushed off. Finally I decided to leave, it was not worth giving a fight. I'm in no way trying to brush people away from martial arts or dishonor what this academy does. He is well known for his karate experience and expertise and is in the hall of fame for karate, From Korea, he was an instructor in the South Korean military services. Drawing on his 50 years of Karate experience, he has created the school on Hooper Avenue, down in Lacey, Manchester, Brick, Ohio and Germany. His videos are on Youtube and he had/has a movie career with the Karate Kid movies, and the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles (which he and his son were in). The basic teaching of the school is not fighting but respect. From respect for all things, the school teaches Korean based Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts with the focus again, not on fighting but the art of martial arts. In the two and half years that Master Manny Rivera of the Manchester School has taught my children and meeting everyone at the Hooper school, I'm very pleased with the methods and instructions my children are learning in the art of Martial arts. While I'm sure everyone has an opinion of what they are looking for in a martial arts school, you should certainly consider Kum Sung Karate for yourself and your family. There are many different forms taught and you can learn self defense, weapons, fans, but most of all respect for yourself and others.

I chose this…read moredojo because Sensei Tim Vazquez, 5th Dan, is a certified FBI Defensive Tactics instructor and has an extensive law enforcement background. He trains Defensive Tactics for law enforcement professionals so there is always an emphasis on practical effectiveness, something I was looking for in a traditional martial art. He teaches the full spectrum of Aikido, from soft, to hard, to powerful flowing techniques. The dojo itself is very traditional with a kamiza hand-built by one of the students, and a large practice area covered in good quality tatami mats. Once you walk in the door you immediately want to get onto the mats and start training. This school is part of the Aikido Centers of New Jersey, a group of dojos under Chief Instructor Sensei Greg O'Connor, 6th Dan. Membership at ACNJ Manasquan includes membership at all 9 locations in NJ and PA. I have found the instructors at these schools, and their senior students, to be very supportive and welcoming during my Aikido journey, and I have made many new friends along the way.

One school actually required a 3 year commitment with an opt out @ 6 months. At Ernie Reyes - the staff is great and conducts many family functions at a low cost. Finally, both of my kids continue to attend the school and now are up to 2/3 days per week and love it.
