That and the way that I was spoken to by Sensei Max is the reason we have now left and sought out another dojo across town. When the first year was up I received a call during the work day from Sensei Max asking me to call back. Before I was able to return his call I received multiple messages from his personal facebook account asking about billing and then belittling me for being unable to afford the exorbitant up front cost of $1620 for the year. I had explained I would need to pay monthly as a single mom with limited funds and he offered to ask the owner for a discount on my behalf which was great. In the meantime I had several family members wanting to help out so I set up a GoFundMe which he saw. Deciding that since I had people willing to help with the fees I no longer needed a discount he decided to instead subtract those funds from the yearly cost and tell me what the new monthly rate would be after. I had not given them any money yet and it was uncalled for to have him take any money that he hadn't received into account for their billing which again was happening entirely through Facebook messenger from a private account that was not even the owner of the business. There are advertisements online and out front of the building stating 1 month free. What they don't tell you is that 1 week in Max will take you aside, ask if this is going to be a long term decision and get you signed up for the next year at which point the rest of the "free month" is forfeit. He tells me now that since I chose to sign up for the year I was giving up the right to those 3 weeks that would have been otherwise free. When I asked to speak with the owner after being dissatisfied with the way Max was handling this, I never received a call back. So to surmise. They do not issue paper bills but will instead harass and bully you via private messenger accounts. They do not honor their 1 month free. They fail to provide any sort of customer service and the owner cannot be bothered to return calls of complaints of treatment by his staff. We recently signed up at DaSilva's for a month to month affordable rate and with the option to visit the dojo as often as my son wants. This week he was there for 4 classes at times convenient to working parents. I recommend anyone considering VMA to instead look elsewhere and save yourself that poor treatment.
