Ah, Pfauen. (the word means Peacock) It brings back good memories of graduate school at Fachhochschule Reutlingen. This attractive and elegantly understated place, owned by Southern Italians, has great veal, salad, pizza and pasta. I liked to come here with my friends and family to re-aquaint myself with food not made on a hotplate which didn't involve carb-loading on an epic scale. I had been walking all over Reutlingen, enjoying the day by myself. I stumbled upon this place by the delicious aromatic scent that drifted from it. The unmistakeable trail of sautéed shallots in butter and wine enticed me to try this place. It was dusk and the tables were all set with candles and wine glasses. It looked so nice, I'd wished my husband was on this trip to join me. The ambience was perfect. I decided to pass. The next day the owner of a company was offering to take me and a colleague to lunch to his favorite restaurant. Guess where? The menu was terrific. It wasn't crazy pricy and the food was even better than it smelled. I have been back several times and it has yet to disappoint. Great pizza, pasta and entrees. Their specials of the day, really are special. Yesterday I had the noodles with salmon and spinach, delicious. I highly recommend this place. They really have a gem in Reutlingen. read more
