I wholeheartedly agree with the other poster. Rita is an abysmal therapist, and I say this with the experience of good, great, and mediocre therapy sessions. She's the worst I've seen, and also the most expensive. She actually caused active and growing harm in my own addiction recovery and marriage. As you might imagine, the harm in one of those areas fed the harm in the other. Worse, when I pointed this out, she threatened me with more harm and also took glee in the harm she contributed to. So not only does she not provide benefit, she actively harms and when confronted with that, she adds to the harm. In short, she's in the wrong business. She also didn't know many simple facts about alcohol or alcoholism. Specifically, she didn't know how long alcohol metabolites can remain in your urine. That's a simple fact that someone with the claimed specialty should know about. She didn't know about modern, well documented alternatives to AA that have been around for over 20 years. Once again, she's nowhere near an expert on this facet of addiction, although she claims to be. She doesn't listen or retain information that you provide her, even after 5 or so repetitions. So you can get a "diagnosis" based on flawed information because she doesn't listen to any aspects of your situation that make you unique. She has a "one size fits all" diagnosis and recommendation for every issue. Like the other poster said, it's "go to Choices" no matter what. Alcohol, marriage issues, indigestion, stubbed toe, "go to Choices." I went, and Choices was a horrible waste of time and money and I could see how it could cause active damage to vulnerable individuals. On top of all that, she's unprofessional. She constantly arrives late, even up to missing 25% of the session you agreed upon and paid for. She then offers passive aggressive excuses for her lateness. This is habitual. And considering how expensive it is, she should offer a refund or pro rated bill but she doesn't. Which would be fine, but she's ruining lives. When a therapist should help someone fix their life. Steer clear, steer clear, steer clear. Luckily, there are many local alternatives that can and will help you. I can't give a more forceful recommendation to the loved ones and supporters of those with issues: stay away. There's a distinct chance that Rita will add to exacerbation of the problem(s) at hand. Rita is an amazing therapist. She has helped me so much. She helped me find recovery in many areas and she's helped me transform my life. She's a straight shooter and she offers her wisdom to help you make changes that feel right for you. She's definitly an expert in addictions. She understands it better than anyone I've ever met. Rita does an excellent job of connecting people within the community so that you can access the support that's out there. I'm still very close with members of Rita's group I was in years ago. Rita offers group and individual therapy. I took advantage of both for many years which jump started my recovery and gave me a strong foundation. Rita is a very kind, loving, and strong woman. Please do not use this woman. When my step daughter's father died she was promised an amount from the will and this woman verbally stated everything would be fine. My SD has received NOTHING!! Ms. Preller would not even tell her when the ashes would be spread. Not a good choice. read more

We found Rita through a recommendation from an addiction specialist in the Baltimore area when our son, who was deep in active drug addiction, reached out for help. Rita's guidance helped us get our son into a 28-day rehab facility quickly giving us the time needed to work on a long term recovery plan for him. We wound up sending him to Choices in Florida, a decision that saved his life. Rita then helped my wife and I to work on our own recovery providing individual and couples counseling over the four years after our son went to Choices and eventually moved on from that program. Her direct and honest approach to helping us with our issues combined with her sincere concern for our family helped us get through an extremely stressful time and provided the opportunity for us to grow stronger. We never felt pressured to participate in other types of therapy that were offered and we feel that our time spent in Rita's care was worth every cent! Rita Preller is an incredible therapist that specializes in addiction therapy. Rita came highly recommended to my husband and I over 6 and 1/2 years ago when we discovered that our 17 year old daughter had a major drug addiction. I had been a high school nurse and I knew that her drug addition was way bigger than we were. We knew we needed to work with an expert for guidance in this uncharted territory. Rita came through in every area! Not only did Rita assist us with finding drug treatment for our daughter (Choices in Florida, which was a wonderful program that helped save our daughter's life), Rita also provided us with both family counseling and individual counseling. Rita helped me get honest with some of my own addictive behavior, plus she helped me with unresolved grieve from the death of my father when I was 8 years old. Additionally, when our daughter relapsed, we called her cell phone at 10:30 PM on a Monday night. Not only did she answer her phone that night, she gave us very strong support and guidance during that dreadful relapse period. As a result of that guidance, our daughter ended up having her own bottom, went back to Choices on a scholarship and 4 months later was back in the Baltimore area living in a sober house. Btw, our daughter is now 24 years old and is living a wonderful sober life. Rita is at the top of my list for drug and alcohol treatment. I recommend many, many people to Rita. She has a gentle spirit, but at the same time is not afraid to tell it like it is. Addiction is life and death, and at times, families need to hear the cold hard truth. read more

This woman is an excellent therapist and has helped me and my husband immensely. One does not need to know the chemical properties of alcohol in order to help with the devastating issues that result from being or living with an alcoholic, using or sober. As a well respected addictions nurse myself... I would need to refer to my lab manual to precisely recite the exact number of hours that each drug stays in the blood stream. It is common for addicts to focus on what a therapist doesn't know when the therapist knows things the addict wishes she didn't. Rita is smart, compassionate, professional, and her fees are comparable to what any good therapist would charge. I highly recommend her. read more

Literally the worst therapeutic experience of my life. Had me explain my entire drug/alcohol history under confidentiality, and directly after the session sent my mother and my school a copy of her notes. Lied consistently and cut our appointments short- the clocks in her office were set 10 minutes later than the real time. read more

Rita was recommended to us by a treatment center in PA to help our son in his recovery. She proved to be instrumental in helping not only our son, but our entire family, as she guided us through the meanders of addiction and early recovery.
