The care this treatment center provides is amazing and the relationships and community within the building are truly so special. They're extremely open, welcoming and caring. It's truly the epitome of a judgement free zone. Mountain Manor Treatment Center provides services and care to individuals, both minors and adults, who are and/or have struggled with addition. Typically drug related, at least from my experience with individuals I have worked with. The growth, resources, love, and laughter the workers provide is truly one of a kind and I look forward to volunteering here more. read more

As a family member/loved one giving this review, this place is the worst place to go to. This place is DESTROYING families! They MADE my fiancé write me a letter ending everything after I have been with him for years. The letter had no feeling and was totally not words that he would use. What kind of place drives you away from your biggest support system. "Co-dependent relationships are not healthy." When you are in PRISON you have to rely on your family for money for phone calls and canteen!! Also, a child involved and they think this is healthy? My experience as a mother, whose daughter is in there for drug recovery has been awful! They do allow smoking cigarettes and some of these girls bully my daughter when she calls me on the "free phone", telling her, her 10 mins is up when its only been 5 minutes. It's BS! She calls once a week because the other 12 girls there don't let her call me. She isn't allowed to use her cell phone. This place is a damn joke! read more

Dr Fishman has treated me for bipolar type II for five years. He's kind, ultra competent and very particular with his patients. He's a brilliant technician, careful titration of meds. He has bent over backwards for my family. We owe him so much in unpaid time and kindness, in free advice and weekend phone calls, in interceding on my son's behalf with other medical professionals. I would walk over hot coals for Mt Manor and Dr Fishman. read more

My son has recently received in and outpatient substance abuse care at Mountain Manor Treatment Center for adolescents. My experience was excellent. I found all staff to include the therapists, nurses, psychiatrist, aides and administrator helpful, knowledgeable and caring. They made a difference for my son. I find individuals who are recovering from addiction are the best people to help adolescents into recovery as they "have been there" and can get a teenagers attention. Let's face it folks, getting the attention of a teenager who is using is not easy! Isn't that why we take our kids to a facility like Mountain Manor? The organization is accredited by The Joint Commission, a national accreditation organization, who sends surveyors to inspect the operation of the program to include the proper credentials for the staff who provide care to patients. I think it is important to ask questions about the program before your child is admitted to include...How do you ensure a drug free facility?, How closely supervised are your patients and are they ever without supervision?, How often does my child receive counseling and is it individual, group or both?, Do they have family counseling and do they have care planning meetings at the beginning, during and at the end of treatment? , Does the program coordinate care after discharge? I think it is up to the parents to find out about the program before admission and get as much out of it as possible by being involved in the care of their family member. The professionals only get us past the first leg of the very, very long journey. The rest is up to our kids who chose to use in the first place. read more

I went to see my son at mountain manor. He looked great and was able to carry on a confersation with me. That is a miracle, I am very grateful for this place and he is happy were he is and wants to stay another 30 days. I pray he gets to. So I think it is a good place to go if you want to get the help to recovery. read more

DO NOT! I repeat, DO NOT attend this facility. The time that I spent there was a complete waste and had I read further reviews before making my choice, I would have steered clear of Mountain Manor as a whole when it comes to treatment. The facility is terrible and deprecated, the staff (excluding the secretaries who were lovely and friendly the whole time) are incompetent. The program itself should be removed and Mountain Manor should be refused to allow to continue with their horrible idea of outpatient treatment. Explanation of rating: I was admitted to this facility after receiving a DUI for marijuana. As I refused to take any roadside testing as I wished to speak to a lawyer first, I was charged with failure to comply and test refusal so was sent to this facility for alcohol treatment as well. During my initial interview, I made Mr. Elvon, the admissions counselor aware of my situation. I explained that I was having mental issues and provided paperwork showing that I was suffering from depression and extreme anxiety. I informed him that I was seeing a specialist and that medication was being prescribed to me and until the correct dosage could be administered, I was utilizing marijuana to cope. Mr. Elvon was very understanding and agreed that as long as my levels diminished during my tests, I could continue within the program. Afterwards I was referred to Scott, who was a younger counselor and informed that he would be my main treatment counselor for personal sessions while at Mountain Manor. I provided Scott with the same information described above and he informed me that this was all well seeing as I would be in treatment for 26 weeks. This would give me plenty of time to correct my medication and complete the program. After a few months and multiple drug tests where THC was present, I was still told multiple times that it was ok with the counselors as my levels were lower each subsequent testing. Fast forward a month and my counselor was switched to the head counselor Ms. Carol Figard. I was then informed that my initial counselor was incorrect in the time allotted for my program and that it was supposed to be 26 sessions, not weeks. She performed a calculation on the amount of time that I had left within the program and it was determined that I would only be there for another two weeks as I had completed 22 of my 26 sessions (2 sessions per week, back to back, one being group and the other being "personal" which I will explain further below). I completed my two sessions that week and was on my final sessions when Ms. Figard brought me into her office. She then pulled out my urinalysis from a month prior and stated that I tested positive for THC and she was removing me from the program immediately. When I asked why, Ms. Figard stated that because I failed to be clean 3 months prior to dismissal, I could not complete the program. I then reiterated the fact that she was aware of, that I was informed I would be here longer and my counselor, as well as her, had been fine with my positive tests in the last few months. I furthered by adding that if her statement was correct with regards to the three-month policy, then I should have been removed after my second urinalysis which was roughly 1.5 months into the program. Ms. Figard then stated that there is also a policy stating that I would have needed to be past the drug screening within 1 month of being enrolled at this facility. I calmly asked her where this policy was located in which failed to produce any documentation. I again stated that if this was the case I should have been removed after my first urinalysis, but as was shown, I was allowed to continue as my counselors were aware of my situation and approved it "as long as my THC levels continued to diminish through my treatment". Ms. Figard then became irate and started screaming at me completely abandoning all professionalism. I calmly asked her if I we were finished here and if I was allowed to leave in which she started screaming again and following me down the stairs continually yelling at me that I could never return. Progressing further a couple months and it seems that Ms. Figard has been removed from this facility. I was unable to attain a reason why from Tony, the new head counselor, but my assumption could only lead me to believe it was due to malicious practices or clear unprofessionalism. When inquiring about returning to complete my treatment as my medication has been adjusted correctly. Mr. Tony informed me that I would not be able to return and if I would like, I could attend another Mountain Manor facility but would have to complete the entire twenty-six session program again. I was provided with my discharge paperwork and it was evidently clear that Ms. Figard manipulated all of the events to cast blame in my direction for her incompetence. Our experience as parents with Mountain Manor was amazing. From the admissions person Annisa who assisted us with a very difficult transfer from a local hospital to Mr George who ran the family education hour, to the counselors and therapists and receptionist...each person showed a level of caring and dedication that amazed and comforted me. MM is not a fancy place, but they do wonderful work and truly care about each client. When there were problems reported, staff took care of it immediately. In addition, Sharon, our child's addictions counselor, worked magic in getting our child into the next placement, considering our needs financially and the needs of our child in order to help her succeed. I cannot say enough good about Mountain Manor. They assisted in keeping my child alive. read more

My child was at mountain manor recently. I had some positive experiences with them and not so positive experiences. First of all I want to thank them for helping my daughter, we were at witts end,ready to throw our hands up,but my daughter came out of mountain manor after a 2 week stay with a better attitude and the desire not to experiment with drugs or alcohol. There are a couple of suggestions I made to the supervisor along with her counselor that would help, First off I disagree with the strip search,let me clarify that, when a person is first admitted, I agree yes you do have to do a strip search to make sure drugs or weapons are not coming in, after that, its not necessary all of the time, you can remedy these situations, it makes for a less stressful environment for the parent as well as the young adults. part of the reason I disagree is,particularly the girls, not being offered sheets, you have to have respect for privacy regardless who you are! and until I complained,sheets were not always readily available. Try having a sign posted in your front lobby and on residential door," please leave personal items such as pocket books and cell phones locked in your car as this saves undo pressure on our residents and less of a chance for broken rules.as we want this to be a positve visit for all involved". Simple thing to do and I am sure the parents would agree. Another suggestion during visitation why not come up with an activity that both the parents and kids can do together, its a great way to open up a dialog and get that positive communication going. Its time to add some options! your staff will be happier, parents happier and kids happier! read more

Mt. Manor offers a strong drug treatment program for adults and youth from the Baltimore area. I have attended the Intensive Out Patient program in Baltimore City as well as the In patient center in Emmitsburg, MD. and found both provided excellent and compassionate drug counseling and treatment. My review is sincere and honest and the result of having worked with their program on may levels for many years. Their treatment center in Emmitsburg is the best I have ever attended (only 2 to be honest, one other with all the amenities, but limited solid recovery support). The counseling/clinical staff have years of experience (and yes many are in recovery...with YEARS of sobriety) and provide a solid program: intelligent, individualized, creative, spiritual counseling and drug/alcohol recovery educational sessions. The staff and the center's policies are firm and rigorous. They make it clear with much care that we need to work on our recovery and not use the time in rehab to socialize and be distracted by the things we can do when we get out of the center. Some may interpret this in a negative light, but I suggest that this could be part of the disease's insidious effort to find excuses to avoid the hard truths. The nursing staff are wonderful and attentive to the clients medication needs. They provide weekly educational sessions and the nurse practitioner works to meet the client's needs. As for the amenities: FOOD- three daily meals and a late supper sandwich/cookies are prepared by a kind kitchen staff, light snacks of fruit and PBJ, and coffee and juices always available. This isn't 5 star dining...but then who needs that in recovery...save on the money and buy a good meal when you're sober. HOUSING-- the center is in an old motel in a beautiful rural area nearby Camp David. There is a small pond on the grounds with seasonal wildlife and in the evenings clients can enjoy the amazing night skies that the bright light's of Bmore city prevent viewing. The housekeeping staff thoroughly clean the rooms daily and provide full linen and laundry service. But yes, it is an old motel...that doesn't mean it isn't a good facility...Look more deeply and you'll find IT IS!! But if you are looking for a vacation...this isn't the place for you. It is a place for serious recovery work. It's the kind of place you don't want to come back to because it will help you get it right for life. The administrators are deeply caring and concerned about their clients and provide outstanding intake and aftercare support. When needed they can provide scholarships and financial assistance for clients, but the cost is way less than just about any center around. This IS NOT A MONEY MILL like so many treatment centers....but one dedicated to providing a solid recovery program.The facility was created decades ago by a recovering alcoholic with a committed service mission for addicts and alcoholics. In addition, after participating in a short term medication trail I was provided long term counseling from one of the clinical directors and medication management from the program's psychiatrist. They were hands down the best psychiatric team I have ever worked with (and I have lived in NY, SF, Boston and received counseling in all those states :-). They were well read on current research, focused on my specific needs when shaping my treatment plan, and attentive to and concerned about my progress. During my counseling sessions they were excellent listeners but more importantly they provided thoughtful and compassionate advice that helped guide me through relapses to recovery. I still have much more hard work to do to maintain my sobriety but I want to express here my gratitude for the support they provided. read more

This facility has helped my 22 year old son greatly. The counselors are very caring and dedicated to their jobs. The only problem that I have encountered is that there seems to be some organizational issues and they are working to resolve them. My son is in recovery because of the treatment he received from Mountain Manor. I called several facilities when I was seeking treatment for him and this was the only one that cared, called me back, and got my son in for treatment. My insurance will only partially cover the expenses, but they are working on alternatives to help pay for his treatment. I am very grateful to Mountain Manor and their staff! read more

I am not sure why the two other reveiwers had such a bad experience. The people our child interacted with were clearly trained and highly educated. We felt that he was safe there and they delivered on what they promised. I found the staff to be pleasant, accessible and very accommodating. I am glad that we found Mountain Manor. read more

obviously the two negative reviews before mine were of addicts not ready to stop using. Mountain manor gives you everything you need to start a life without drug addiction. Yes there are some minor technical issues and of course people who use drugs talk about doing drugs ( some people have been using there whole life and that's all they know) but for the majority all the counselors are well educated and prepared, they care immensely for the clients. My 3 week stay at the manor was just what this 20+ year addict needed to lay a foundation for success : 4 meals a day, medication, a place to sleep and shower, a structured day, and great counselors. MOST drug treatment places are staffed by former addicts. My son is in Mountain Manor for the second time due to a relapse. The first was 2 years ago. They don't baby them there and they don't run it like a country club like many rehabs do. They get real. If you just caught your teen drinking or smoking pot, go with a country club rehab. If your child has real problems, go with mountain manor. read more

Im 22, when i was 18 i got into a bad dui accident and wrecked my truck and my whole face, got prescribed percocets and the game was on so to speak, for 3 years i struggled every single day with percocets, and even went to 2 rehabs and didnt stay clean longer than 24 hours after i got out.. never stayed clean longer than a week. and i caught 5 charges over the span of it, did 2 months in jail, then i graduated up in drugs, shooting a gram of dope a day for a year, I got arrested in June 2013, for possession heroin. a week later i was getting admitted into mountain manor, sitting in the waiting room ready to say fuck it i dont wanna do this, but i was broke and gonna go to jail if i didnt so figured id give it a shot. i was there for about 3 weeks.... before i went in i had no hope, no drive, no happiness, no job, no license, no trust in others, nothing. after i left there, i was a drastically different person, from a hopeless dopefeind to a dopeless hopefeind as they say. ALL of the people there, from the Counselors, to the therapists, doctors, the Tech's, the secretaries, and even the lunch ladies and the director mr shannon, showed me attention and kept it so real letting me know if i didnt stop now, it was only going to get worse and id die or be in jail or right back here again. they helped me develop long and short term plans and strategies and everything i could need to recover. and they werent indifferent or looking down on me or just reading off a script like i was just another number. they actually gave a F---. and they were so cool, and all addicts in recovery so they knew what was really needed and cared. They went out of their way to take us to outside meetings and get us connected and networked and inspired. i mean shit, one of the techs even brought in all his own movies and rented them and a his own xbox 360 and games and food and drinks and took us to the movies and YMCA and restaurants and all spending money on us just to give us some hope and see us find some happiness in being clean. it might sound little and dumb but im telling you the small things count and they put in more effort there in 3 weeks to help me than i recieved from any and all of the people half ass trying over the past 4 years. and thats the truth. If it wasnt for Mount Manor, and the Howard House where i went directly after to stay for 5 months, i would NOT be clean today, i guarantee you. I was a dope-shootin, stealin-from-my-own-mother, other-people-robbin, crime-committing, ass-hole, no-hope, no-idea-how-to-stay-clean forreal addict. and if you or youre loved one is struggling and reading this and thinking oh hes different than me or them, im not, we arent. i was the worst addict i know, and you can make it. Now i have my license, my car, have saved up a few thousand dollars from being hired as the best position and pay ive ever had being an Assistant Manager for the first time ever at a store in the mall. Im volunteer Fire-Fighting again, im 8 months and 11 days clean, and i dont even have to struggle everyday, it seems like a distant memory and i actually wake up and go to sleep happy! im living a dream, if youre an addict you know how far away and fairy tale that shit seems. but i promise you can have it. all you need is some good support and a great first push into recovery. My 18 yo son needed help and there was no residential treatment for dual diagnosis specifically for young adults in our area. His psychiatrist referred us out of state to Mountain Manor. She said she refers there regularly and the outcomes were good. We were uncertain. It is a big step to take your child to residential treatment. As we sat and waited to be called in for the assessment, we were able to observe the staff coming and going. I noticed the fire sprinkling system in the room. Even though this is an historic building, a former monastery, it appeared that there had been renovations to be in compliance with building codes. This reassured us. After we met with staff for assessment and intake, we felt comfortable that he would be safe and would get help. Over the next few weeks, we went up to visit twice a week and participated in family group sessions which were very helpful. We visited with our son. We kept in daily touch with his counselor regarding his progress. They were very helpful in working with our insurance company to get coverage for his stay. He resisted treatment some but stayed with it. By the time he was discharged, it was clear he had made a jump in maturity and sobriety. As parents, we felt like we had been given information and tools to help us. He has begum to make changes that are positive and set goals for his future. We are very thankful for the staff of Mountain Manor for their help, and appreciated their professionalism. It is not an easy task that they perform, Addiction is a horrible disease. It's a good thing that good people care enough to create a place like this for healing and recovery. read more
