Amazing work of art located between Victor and Cripple Creek! She is super hidden and we had to ask Victor locals directions on how to get there. Make sure you have an AWD vehicle because the parking lot is up a small dirt path with lots of rocks. The hike starts off with an old mine in the front. The walk to see her is very easy and flat which makes it doable for even the elderly or if you have kids. Come out here on a nice day because when it's snowing I can see how this would not be the best move! read more

Rita, you are a little difficult to find! People say Rita is located near Colorado Springs, but the drive out to her actual location is about 50 miles away. It takes about an hour and a half to get there. It's worth the drive to see her! She's out in the open and fee free to see! Look for Little Grouse Mountain Trailhead sign or a brick colored rock with "VICTOR" on it. There's a dirt parking lot to pull in to. We didn't park here, there's another lot closer to Rita. Drive up the dirt road around the mountain and you will find it near historic mining machine. After you park, you will first see the remnants of the American Eagle Mine equipment & buildings. Beyond this is the trail you will walk out on to see her. It's just about a half mile round trip on a gravel and dirt path. Depending on how fit you are or aren't, will determine if this is a stroll in the park or a semi-strenuous hike. It winded us a little because we're at nearly 10,000 feet here AND at Sea Level at home in Los Angeles, CA. There's very little shade. Rita is a troll filling in a hole left by people who dug it up looking for gold. She thought the holes were too dangerous for animals & humans and so she covered them with rocks. The first sight of Rita will probably be of her rear because of the way she's situated. She's impressively massive and even on all fours, she's about 21 feet tall. You can sit under her. This troll was created by Thomas Dambo, a Danish sculpture artist. There are over one hundred Dambo trolls in the U.S.A. and many more around the world. Rita The Rock Planter is troll numbered 119. She was unveiled on August 4, 2023. Isak Heartstone was the first Dambo Troll we saw in person eight days prior to coming to see Rita! We just went to Solvang, CA to go check out Lulu Hyggelig, our third Troll visit on Jan. 17, 2026!! *If heading towards Cripple Creek, go check out the Cripple Creek Donkeys! Amazing views!! Wow!! What a great treasure!! There is not much wifi service in the area make sure you know where you are going. Make sure you gas up, pack water and food. The town is really small. This troll is one of two in Colorado. This is Rita the rock planter by recycle artist & activist thomasdambo it's 1 of 119 trolls so far around the world. There is something truly special about these giant pieces from the Danish recycling artist following his mission to 'Waste no more'. He created a worldwide troll-hunting phenomenon & gives new life to discarded materials by turning them into large-scale artworks. Highly recommend for families and both children and adults. This is a wonderful statue they did a fantastic job on it The grandkids completely loved it The only thing is from the parking lot and the way down you have to be really careful because there's jagged rocks everywhere please be safe when going down to see Rita the rock pusher she definitely needs to get the ones up on top of the hill lol read more

We pulled off into a random overlook with a huge tire, then drove up the dirt hill behind it. Well, that turned out to be the remnants of a mine and the path to Rita. Rita the Rock Planter is one of the FREE things you can do in Colorado. Rita is one of two troll arts in Colorado by Thomas Dambo. Rita is nestled near Victor and Crippled Creek, Colorado. I recommend driving to the top parking lot and then it is just a short hike to find Rita. Pack your cooler with snacks and hit the trail. Make sure you put in your GPS prior to getting there because you will lose service unless you have satellite phone. It is not handicapped accessible but we did see folks with canes assisted by family. read more
