Pros: - extensive breakfast bar in the mornings starting before 6, with made to order omelettes, French toast, and pancakes, oatmeal, biscuits, sausage, potatoes, cake, and fruit. Darla, who staffs the hot bar, is so pleasant. - corporate rate is $109 (vs. $150/night) - 2 water bottles and 2 granola bars each day with room servicing - fridge and microwave available in rooms - happy hour snacks 5-7pm each night, and cookies and/or ice cream (sometimes pie too!) after 7! Cons: - no elevator, so be prepared to lug your suitcase up the stairs - aloof front desk customer service - my reservation was lost due to a computer issue last month. I called to rebook the nights. Even after spelling out my info multiple times, there were typos all over my reservation, but more importantly, the reservation was saved incorrectly, so I was contacted by phone to confirm the dates the following week. When I arrived, the reservation was lost yet again. The best hotel we have stayed in in the area. Located in downtown Prarie du Chein, within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and cute shopping district. The staff was outstanding, the beds were super comfortable as were the pillows. Lots of fluffy towels in our well appointed room. Snacks and water were complementary. Also complementary was cheese and crackers in early evening, a Sunday bar and hot cookies every night and a cooked to order breakfast in the a.m. Rooms have a mini fridge and microwave. The pool was warm and clean and there were always towels. The lobby was welcoming and comfortable to hang out in. They also have a party room available. Of note, there is no elevator so request a 1st floor room if need be. read more

Received a phone call from Chris approximately 48 hours prior to my hotel stay saying that the hotel had been breached, compromised, hacked! Seemed a bit odd since I had just gotten a reminder email regarding my stay a few days prior. Was told I no longer had a room! UGH!!! I booked my reservation 8 months in advance and have been taking a fall trip to Wisconsin for many, many years. Should I be concerned about my personal information? hmmmm.... one would think so right!? I seldom give 5-star reviews. I don't want to cheapen their value. But in the case of our stay at the River District Hotel in Prairie Du Chien, I do so without hesitation. Why? To begin with, the warmth and friendliness of everyone at the front desk. It is obvious they place a high priority on our satisfaction. Secondly, our room was modern, clean, and had every amenity you would expect with first-class accommodations. Finally, was the value they provided. My first thought looking at their rates was that it was a bit high for a small town in Wisconsin. But other reviewers mentioned how good their breakfasts were, so I thought, if that's the case the price isn't so high. The reviews did not prepare me for our experience. The breakfast is over-the-top for any hotel we've ever stayed at that featured complimentary breakfasts. And it didn't stop there. Completely unexpected was that they also include dinner! I didn't see this mentioned anywhere. The dinner is modest: Soup, fresh dinner rolls and pie. Given it was an unexpected bonus, now included in the price of our room was the fact that we really didn't have to spend any money on food during our stay if we didn't want to. Of course we went out to sample the local cuisine, but I was still bowled over by the overall value. Oh, and did I mention fresh chocolate chip cookies at night? Yup. This hotel is wonderful! The owner and staff are great, the lobby is very warm and has a beautiful fireplace and games, puzzle, and tv. Has a huge heated indoor pool and hot tub. They have a chef that makes the best omelette, French toast, pancakes plus there's a lot of other choices on the buffet. Coffee 24 hours, popcorn, soup and bread and pie with ice cream in the evenings and warm chocolate chip cookies every night. My husband and I stayed here for many consecutive weeks while waiting for our house to be built and their staff really helped us feel at home!! We will definitely come back for weekend stays even after we move into our house! They are also conveniently located next to downtown restaurants, bars and boutiques! Love this hotel!!! read more

This hotel was a disappointment. Looked real good on their web page but didn't turn out that way. Problems started at check-in when I was handed my room keys and told "here you go". And that was all. No mention of the nightly amenities, when breakfast was served etc. The first nightly amenity was a cheese platter which was good. Then the ice cream which ran out. I went back later to see if it had been replaced with more and everything was cleaned up. Then the cookie amenity and there was one cookie left-I didn't want to be that guy. Could not find the "here you go" attendant to ask about more. The bathroom in our room had a urine smell which I'm not sure where that was coming from because the floor appeared clean. The exhaust vent had not been cleaned for a while and there was hair under the edge of the sink which was missed. Hair also in the tub according to my wife. Breakfast the next morning was good. However multiple items had run out and I had to wait for more. Web page said something about a made-to-order chef but there wasn't one the Monday morning I was there. Had everything been as nice as shown on their web page I wouldn't have minded the high price. But it wasn't. My first and last visit to this hotel. read more

It was Christmas evening. We were traveling from NC to visit our WI family. I ended up being allergic to the house we were staying at (blasted cats) and needed to find a hotel ASAP. We were incredibly tired from a very full day of traveling and the inevitable snow storm. AmeriInn saved our Christmas (okay- that is a tad dramatic- but it was lovely). I'm certain the staff wasn't in the mood for some night time Christmas customers. They were incredibly gracious, helpful and attentive. Yes, there are cheaper places to go to in PdC- but it isn't worth it. This place is the best. The beds are outrageously comfortable. The room is very clean (most important aspect of any hotel experience). The attention to detail is incredible- from free DVD's to cookies and milk at night. The breakfast is an array of items from bagels, to yogurt, cereal, waffles and omelets that they make for you. Sometimes they have free stew and pie. REALLY. THAT HAPPENS. There is a pool. You can walk to bars/restaurants in PdC. The only strange thing is the George W Bush room. As a bleeding heart liberal I was so grateful to not end up in there :) I plan on going back here for all of our WI visits from now on. We were exhausted, cold and tired on Christmas night and they were incredibly welcoming (to be honest- we stopped by a different hotel first that was NOT like that.) read more

Highly recommend. Great welcoming staff that works hard to keep you happy. The hotel is clean and comfortable but it is the extra touches that make it memorable. The cookies, popcorn, omelette breakfast, library of current books, dvd movies, cappuccino machine are great things for the whole family. The decor is nice and soothing. The pool is just the right size for families. Very convenient location within walking distance to nice downtown shops and good restaurants. We did not hear any of the normal hall and door noise like you do in other hotels and even though it is at a busy intersection there was no noticeable outside noise while sleeping. I give this hotel 5 stars based on customer service, cleanliness of the room and comfort of the bed. Although this is not the hotels fault, we stayed on a Saturday night and the bar across the street had an outdoor band playing until midnight. It was so loud that we had to turn the TV up to hear over it and could not fall asleep. If weekend noise is a concern to you, you may want to check nearby events to ensure there won't be anything bothersome going on. The hotel itself was great. read more

My two girlfriends and I checked in to the AmericInn last week as we were taking a small vacation through southwest Wisconsin. As we entered the building, we were not only greeted by smiling staff members, but also by lovely local cheeses in the lobby. Our room was pleasing as well. It was clean in every nook and cranny, with bed that were oh so comfy! After we found a place for dinner, we returned to find the making for ice cream sundaes AND warm cookies and milk! As we enjoyed our evening treats, our souls were soothed by the lovely sounds of hymns. AmericInn offers breakfast as well. I expected cold Danish and bad coffee. But oh no, they have a full breakfast bar from which to choose. AND they have Darla. She is the lovely woman who asks, "What can I cook for you?" She make eggs any way you like them! I gave them a 4 due to no hot water to take a morning shower and horrific timing with some construction work in the lobby. We all loved listening to floors being sanded while eating breakfast...not! Not to mention having to walk outside and around the hotel to access the pool. Construction that is going to impact guests needs to be done in the middle of the week and not start till mid morning. I do not have enough wonderful things to say about this hotel. Let's start at check in. After a long day of travel we arrived and were told that there was free nachos, free chicken soup, free homemade pie and we could smell cookies baking that were set out (with cold milk) at about 7pm. Next comes the room. It was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable Complimentary breakfast: There is cereal, bagels, muffins, sausage and gravy, yogurt, waffles AND there was a staff member (Darla) manning an omelet station where she made omelets and eggs to order (as well as hash browns), all of which were delicious and high quality. There is a wall of DVDs for the guests to watch on the portable DVD players that the staff will lend to you if needed. Did i mention the large pool ? Or the hot tub? This is hands down the most well-run hotel I have ever visited. If you are in the PdC area and need a place to stay, look no further. I can not rave about this hotel and its staff enough. read more

A real delight and surprise. I admit I avoid "budget" hotels but this one was better than some pricier hotels. Rooms were clean, conveniently furnished with a lot of outlets, and comfortable bedding. A real plus is that the windows open! The morning breakfast was hosted by a delightful woman who cooked eggs and pasties and seemed excited to share her new additions and happily made custom omelettes. I don't know if all the Americinn hotels are this nice but I will definitely be checking them out. read more

Even though there were other guest checking in the staff at the desk acknowledged our presence with eye contact and a smile. The lobby was beautiful, our room inviting and the whole place very clean. If you are looking for a great hotel that is clean, updated, comfy beds, friendly people with warm cookies and milk served at night and omelettes and waffles served in the morning (breakfasts are included) this is the place. A bit pricier than some others in the area but we'll worth the splurge! My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the quality of this hotel considering two nights earlier we stayed at the Americinn in Minocqua and it was old, dated, not as comfortable and very basic breakfast. That one was less expensive but you do get what you pay for. We would not go back to the Minocqua one but would definitely go back to the Americinn in Prairie Du Chien. They are independently owned so look for reviews ahead of time to know what you're getting. read more

This Hotel was awesome. Very clean and Friendly. They allowed us to check in 2 hours early. They made fresh movie theater popcorn for us, fresh baked cookies that were delicious from 7pm to 9pm. They have a nice pool and hot tub. Beds were very comfy, room is nice size with fridge and microwave.....also have Free dvd player and movies to borrow from front desk. Fitness room. Lobby was very warm with a nice fire going. They make you a HOT made to order egg/omlette breakfast FREE! They also have fresh sausage and biscuits and gravy, waffles, then your usual cereal, yogurt, breakfast rolls.
