I didn't even get to stay at this hotel because my Lufthansa flight got cancelled, due to an employee strike. I made reservations back in December and paid for the hotel stay back in December. I was supposed to be in Rome this week. This hotel does not refund your money even when your flight and entire vacation plans are cancelled by outside forces. Good lesson, don't make reservations at this hotel because you will not receive a refund, even when your entire vacation is cancelled. I recommend making reservations anywhere else, at any other hotel. read more

Beware! This Hotel May Steal You Money! Be warned, this hotel refused to give me a refund for a seven night stay I had booked and paid for several months before when I was unable to arrive in Rome due to the fact that the pilots from the airline I was flying went on strike. As you can see from my reviews about hotels on this site, I travel a lot. So, I understand the way a good and honorable hotel will treat their customers. And, this is not it! To tell my story, approximately thirty-six hours before I was to fly to Rome, I get a notice from Lufthansa Airlines that they were experiencing a strike, and my flight had been cancelled. As this occurred last minute, I could not find another flight to get me to Rome on time. Due to this fact, I contacted River Palace Hotel with this information and asked for a refund. Here is their reply. "Thank you for your message and for informing us about your situation. We are sorry to hear about the disruption to your travel plans due to the flight cancellation. Unfortunately, according to the terms and conditions of your booking, the reservation is non-refundable. However, we can provide you with a confirmation of your booking, including all applicable terms and conditions. You may use this documentation to submit a claim with your travel insurance or the airline in order to request reimbursement of the costs. We understand the inconvenience this situation may cause and remain at your disposal should you need any further assistance. Kind regards, Tetyana Filyants Deputy Manager" As nice as that message sounds, this means they are keeping approximately two-thousand dollars of my money. I believe we can all understand that is simply the wrong way to do business. There is absolutely no reason that they cannot refund my money. And, no excuse they claim will make their decision just, decent, or acceptable. They are STEALING my money simply because of a situation that was completely out of my control! This hotel lobby is authentically pleasing to eye and the beautiful art works are also captivating. The hotel is close to a few beautiful attractions and there are also 2 supermarkets nearby. The hotel room was on the smaller side, but clean. The elevator is very OLD and ddnt work majority of the time so we used the stairs, suitcase and all. The elevator can only fit 2 people, with big luggages maybe 1 person at a time. Customer service is dry, don't look for it. While staffs were not rude they weren't pleasant and welcoming either. Stayed here for 5 days and had a fabulous experience! I would absolutely stay here again if I come back to Rome. While the rooms are small and somewhat outdated they were clean and worked. Yes, some rooms have storage issues but the front desk will take your luggage and store it for your stay so you have more room. The front desk staff were all wonderful. They were very helpful with taking care of my sick Aunt for a few days before we got to Rome. They went out of their way to get her food and a doctor. Once we were there they were really friendly and gave great recommendations. The hotel location is great. Super close to most tourist spots but in a nice residential area that's quiet at night. The breakfast buffet is great. Tons of options and the food was always delicious. The servers were attentive and made great cappuccino. read more

One star is too high. The double room is the size of a postage stamp and the room is filthy - stained carpet beyond needing to be cleaned (needs replacing). The shower is smaller than the one on a cruise ship, if you can believe that and it also is very dirty. They say they're a 4 star hotel- no way a 2 maybe and that's being generous. read more

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a great hotel while in Rome- I would like to personally thank their staff, in particular "Sabrina" and "Martina" for helping us avoid a disaster on our first night: It turns out we inadvertently left my backpack with my laptop and all our credit card & passport info in our un-marked taxi from the airport and only discovered this after the taxi had already left-With very little information available, Sabrina and Martina immediately set out to figure out who our driver was, were able to contact him, and arranged to have him come back and deliver the bag the very next night! I would give more than 5 stars if I could!!! This was the ultimate hotel stay and experience in all ways; from amenities, customer service, decor, and prime location. I was a bit apprehensive considering the few negative reviews about customer service but I just held my breath and hoped for the best--and River Palace exceeded my expectations many times over. From the start, we received an incredibly warm welcome and check-in from Tetyana (sp?) at the front desk. She was so wonderful and gave us a detailed, personalised check-in. Albert kindly took our luggage to the luggage check since we arrived a few hours before check-in. We had lunch nearby and explored the area for a few hours before returning a little after 2 PM in time to check-in. Jose led us to our room and returned shortly after with our luggage. The pictures on the website and on Yelp don't quite capture the beauty and essence of the hotel. It's truly stunning--from the marble tiles in the bathroom and bronze fixtures to the art and detail throughout the hotel. Slippers are left for each guest and River Palace engraved bathrobes hung makes this a luxury experience. Attention to detail wins here and rooms are prepped what seems like twice a day. We'd come back each night after leaving for dinner to beds made and a card with tomorrow's weather handwritten and a small bag of candy. Such a personal touch. The complimentary breakfast buffet was good, with adequate amounts of fruit, pastries, meat slices, cheese, café, espresso and cappuccino (on order) and a make your own mimosa setup. Since, we're on mimosas, happy (five) hour runs at the lobby bar from 5-10 and includes a complimentary spread of meat, cheese, sandwiches, and snacks. Seriously can't beat a glass of good house wine for 3 euros complete with a spread. The location was excellent too, across the street from great eateries like L'Uliveto Shop and Alice Pizza, dining at Gyoza, steps away from Piazza del Popolo and the gelaterias nearby and a nice walk or short metro ride to sites like Piazza di spagna, trevi fountain, and the Pantheon. It's literally a minute walk from the Flaminio metro station which makes an easy commute to the Vatican City and Colosseum. My only disappointment is that River Palace does not have any locations outside of Rome. If so, I'd stay at their other sites in a heartbeat. We checked into the River Palace Hotel in Rome for a short two nights. Upon check in the staff was very friendly, and helped us with a map to plan a night walk around to the Castel Sant'Angelo, Piazza Navona, Pantheon & Trevi Fountain! It was quite a bit of walking, but so worth it and all are beautiful at night. The room was fairly nice with very soft pillows on the bed. If you like a harder pillow there should be an extra in the closet. TV is a little difficult to use, but there's a whole manual on how to do it next to the bed side. One of my favorite parts of the hotel was their nice and long happy hour in the lobby. From 5pm-10pm they have a large spread of appetizers and snacks that are complimentary as long as you buy a drink. We sat here and ran up a tab after a very long day consisting of two tours between the Vatican City and Colosseum. They also provided a very nice spread for the complimentary breakfast buffet from 6am-10am. Wet made sure to take advantage of this every morning. We have been so pleased with the service provided in Italy so far, and the River Place holds their own in this category! read more

I have stayed in this hotel twice now and i have loved it! The first time was with my mom and that was also my first time in Rome. I fell in love with the beauty of the hotel, and the employees were amazing! The breakfast buffet was delicious and kept us full most of the day. I came a second time with my husband in November, and it was everything I remembered. Our travel agent called and let them know it was our honeymoon before we arrived and they really pulled out all the stops! They upgraded our room for free to a room that looked like a little town home with the cutest winding staircase. I remember being so confused when we walked in and I saw the stairs because I didn't realize the whole thing was our room! Please keep in mind that all hotel rooms are much smaller in Europe, so this was very big in comparison to the typical European hotel room. Also, there was a full bottle of wine waiting for us on our bed along with a welcome not wishing us a happy honeymoon. When we asked them to order us a car early in the morning to take us to the airport, they offered us a to go breakfast since we would be leaving before the breakfast buffet begins. The location is hard to beat - not in the center of Rome, but convenient and walkable to the major sights. The rooms are fairly small but have room for all the essentials, and the air conditioning worked very well. Most importantly, the staff was incredibly helpful. They answered my numerous questions by email before we arrived. Check-in and check-out were quick. They directed us to a very nice place nearby for lunch, and arranged an early-morning cab ride to the airport. I would stay here again without question. read more

This property is as gorgeous as the pictures portray. We stayed in the Villa Borghese Suite which was spacious and had a lovely balcony that ran the length of the suite. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting there in the evenings having a glass of wine. Breakfast in the morning is a treat with a wide variety of options, both hot and cold. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Though there isn't a restaurant in the hotel, there are multiple options within a 2 block walk around the property. The River Palace is also in a great location, allowing us to walk to a wonderful shopping area and several sites. Cabs are plentiful and the front desk is already ready to get one for you. Literally my only negative for this hotel is that the Borgehese Suite's beautiful and luxurious bathroom did not have a shower. It has a large jet tub with a handheld "wand" which isn't a great replacement for a shower. Beyond that, our stay was top notch and I would definitely stay again. read more

This is such an adorable, quaint, perfectly located, clean, and comfortable hotel! The whole staff is friendly and helpful, all of them speak excellent English, which made it easy for us on our first trip to Italy. Our travel planner recommended and booked our stay, and she did not steer us wrong! We had a newly remodeled room with stairs (in the end though, the stairs were a drawback, as the bathroom was downstairs and bed was up, and they were steep....not to mention, the last thing you want to do in Rome after climbing staircases all day, is climb another one to go to bed! ). There are plenty of rooms without staircases, FYI. The beds were comfy, the happy hour was delicious, and the complimentary breakfast was a beautiful spread! We were quite happy with how centrally located the hotel was to everything we wanted to see, walking distance to most things and a short taxi ride to others. My friends and I stayed here for 3 nights during our trip to Rome. We had a great experience. At first I was a bit skeptical because it is located in a smaller alleyway with graffiti seen on the walls, however we felt safe the entirety of our stay. It was pretty quiet, however we did hear the light rail right outside our room at times. We stayed in a jr. Suite which includes a queen bed and a single. One thing to note however is that you will need to climb a set of narrow spiral steps to get to the area where the queen bed is. The TV is in the upper area as well. I wouldn't recommend for elderly or young children for this reason. I'm not sure how the other rooms are set up though, so it may be worth looking into the type of room you will be getting if you have any concerns. There is an emergency pull in the shower so if u see a string dangling, that is not a light as one of my friends found out the hard way ;). Location is pretty good within walking distance from the subway, btw subway system is easy to use around Rome. My favorite part was the continental breakfast and the cappuccinos made to order. I expected the sad continental breakfast we get at mediocre hotels in the States, but I was impressed with the food display. Looking back at all the different hotels we stayed, this was by far the most pleasant (although considering the other 2 places I'm not sure thats saying much). It was one of those places I appreciated even more after the fact. Happy hour everyday was a plus with affordable drinks and free appetizer style food, our theory is that they are made with leftover breakfast...but hey free food is free food and we didn't get sick. The place was very clean and the cleaning staff would always leave a card with the weather and some jelly candies to enjoy. Etro toiletries provided in the room, which I really liked, and slippers provided. The one complaint I have is the smell of the detergent used for towels and robe, maybe its bleach? But the other hotels had the same almost sour smell (I'm very sensitive though). There was a daily charge we had to pay during checkout, like the commonly seen resort fee. I want to say it was something like €25/night?If you are physically healthy and planning a trip to Rome, I definitely recommend staying here. read more

This hotel was a terrible let down. We stayed there for 3 days. 1- beds were hard as a rock. Most uncomfortable beds of the 5 hotels we stayed in Europe. 2- rooms are tiny! No where to put your luggage 3-location is not as described "close to Spanish steps and Trevi Fountain." It's a good 10 to 15 minute walk. 4- you have to take 2 elevators to get to your room. Elevators are super small and can fit four people with a tight squeeze, not including luggage! 5- breakfast was terrible. Flies on food. Pastries were gross. Huge letdown. Skip this "4 star" hotel. I know I wouldn't stay here again while in Rome. read more

The only thing that was a "ding" was the shower was a little small and the elevators was funky. You have to take 2 different ones to get up and down. Stayed at this hotel in June of 2019. The staff is terrific and so helpful. The hotel is old, but beautiful and charming. Rooms a bit small, but bed is comfortable and turn down service every night. The breakfast is fantastic and the happy hour as well. Hotel is located within walking distance to many historic sites. They provide a free cell phone device that you can take with you (during your stay) which allows you to take photos, use google maps, the internet and more. This device saved my trip: A note about the staff: When I arrived, they immediately helped me retrieve my personal cell phone that I left behind at another hotel in Italy. They arranged the shipment of my phone with the other hotel and made sure it arrived at my next hotel in Spain. Terrific staff and great attention to detail!! read more

You are a short metro ride away from Vatican City and the Colosseum. It is more of a residential area with less of a crowd of tourist than other locations. From the moment we entered, I felt very comfortable. We had a long trip, 9 1/2 hrs from LAX to Paris, a long layover and 2 hr flight to Rome plus driving time. 19 hours in total. The Jr suites are roomy, with a safe, 2 servi-bars and free wi-fi. The Mgr was kind and left us a bottle of Chianti. The bathrooms even have towel warmers. The hotel and the amenities were terrific. The staff however, was terribly rude! Had a friend of mine staying at a neighboring hotel and though he left his bag with me, staff kept questioning him whether he was staying at the hotel or not, and if so, that he could not. When my friend tried to visit me at my room and grab his bag, the concierge asked him to be escorted because they did not want him to stay in the room with me. Also, I visited a couple areas outside of Rome and hence did not stay at the hotel every night. When I got back, they questioned where I went and why I had not stayed there. No privacy at all!!! This hotel I booked online. It looked nice from the photos but we were unsure. Photos always are to look exceptional, but these were spot on. Everything was great! The hotel was very clean and charming. All of the staff were extremely helpful and caring, (and spoke English). They gave us a map as well as umbrellas when it was raining. It was convenient to Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, the Vatican as well as the Colosseum and shopping. There are many little hidden restaurants close by that are exceptional and not too expensive. The breakfast buffet was different from the US but the food was delicious. A very friendly staff at breakfast to get you espresso or cappuccino. The food was very fresh with many choices available, as well as plentiful. A nice start to a day. The room was clean with plenty of closet space, along with a safe. VERY HELPFUL! The only drawback for the two of us is that there were only 8 hangers. There was also no iron available, we had to send it out to a laundry service which would have been returned the next day. When you are pulling dress pants or dress shirts out of a suitcase to go to dinner, you don't have that kind of time to wait. This was are only drawback we had. Even if every room didn't have an iron, but one was available to us for a short period of time would have been great. They had a nice happy hour in the afternoon down in the lobby with a little nosh available to go with some nice wines on the menu. I would book this hotel again. We traveled with a group of 8, and had 4 rooms total. The rooms are decent and similar. However, the bed in my room was like sleeping on the floor. Hard as a rock. When I asked to change rooms, I was told all the beds were the same. To which I replied that they were not, because I went to the other 3 rooms to check them out. Then I was told that the other rooms have toppers. They told me I could have another blanket to lay on to make the bed softer. I just gave up and went back to my room. If I wanted a bad mattress I could have paid a lot less somewhere else. I would never recommend this hotel because of their customer service. BIG THUMBS DOWN! read more

Amazing room with a wonderful staff and accessible location. We could walk to nearly every landmark and you can have a taxi at the door in under five minutes. The breakfast is huge and delicious and great for vegans like myself because they have plenty of fruit, soy milk, bread, and even mushrooms! Ask someone in the breakfast room to make you a latte, they're incredible. Our room was very small, but for the price it was perfectly reasonable. It was always nice and cold and the room was serviced multiple times a day. Laundry is VERY expensive, but I think it was typical for Italy. They will also print things out for you if you forward them tickets, boarding passes, etc. read more

We loved our other hotels in Italy, but this was the worst service we have received at a hotel in some time. Upon arrival, the woman at the check-in was incredibly rude and told us only one of us would be able to use the hotel because even though it was a double room, we only booked for one person. It seemed to be a misunderstanding and the problem was finaly resolved (with us paying an increased cost) but it was an unpleasant welcome. Then, all the elevators stopped working during our stay. We were on the fifth floor that took us up two separate winding staircases, so this was an inconvenience The hotel kindly offered a 10 euro bar credit per person for every night of stay as compensation for the elevator problem. This was documented in a letter. However, this too proved a problem at check-out. The hotel argued (at 6am, while we were trying to get to the airport in time) that "for every night of your stay" only meant for every night of your stay past a certain date. So we ended up paying a hotel bar tab that we understood, and the letter indicated, would be included in the broken elevator comoensation. They were rude through it all. I would recommend staying elsewhere. read more

Great hotel, great location. Close to all of the sites, public transportation is only meters away. Two very minor issues: 1. The TV did not have the best reception, but I didn't come here to watch TV. 2. The room was very small, but that is an expectation in Europe. Again, very minor! The room was well appointed with a nightstand, desk and chair, 32 inch TV, minibar that was priced about .50 cents more than the market ( which was very nice ), nice size closet with built in drawers, comfortable bed, great breakfast included ( US hotels could learn a lesson from European hotels when it comes to breakfast ), a couple of markets are just down the street. The highlights: incredibly helpful and kind staff in the entire hotel, the air conditioning was the very best that I have ever experienced in my travels (Europe, USA and Middle East) and a complimentary bottle of Chianti! Very reasonable prices. I will definitely stay here again, should I travel back to Rome. read more

This hotel was the first place we stayed on our Italy vacation and it was very good. The location was perfect--walking distance to everything we wanted to see, and right near the underground which made day trips very easy. The included breakfast was delicious with tons of options. The room was quite small--we couldn't even unpack because the teeny, tiny drawers could not hold our clothes, so we lived out of our bags for a few days, but it was fine. We were only in the room to sleep, really, so not a huge deal. One thing I would say is that we wanted great pizza nearby and the man who helped us at the desk sent us around with lots of mistaken directions. We ended up at one of the spots he did suggest, somehow, and it was probably one of our least favorite meals of our entire trip. That said, I would definitely stay here again, and just rely on other sources for information. read more

The hotel is in a super position for walking to the main sight seeing venues. The staff were very polite, helpful and friendly. The room was small but totally adequate, one only sleeps in it. Too busy sightseeing to worry! The room was clean, linen changed daily, bathroom lovely. The room had wardrobe and drawers, safety deposit box, well stocked fridge with non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, table, chair and bedside cabinets. The happy hour in the bar every evening, (6.00 to 10.00 hrs!) with half price drinks was smashing, with free snacks of a substantial nature! We would fully recommend this hotel and would stay there again, if we revisited Rome. How to get there: From the airport (CIA) take the shuttle bus to the main bus station/train station in Rome, named 'Termini'. (About 40 minutes trip dependent upon traffic.),tickets for which were on sale on the plane: (Ryanair, at €4.00). Take Metro underground, Line A for Battistini and alight at Flaminio station. (Cost €1.50/person) Once outside, look for road Via Flaminio which is the road on which the trams run. Hotel is a short walk down the road, on the left hand side. For the return journey, take metro to 'Termini' station. We approached a tour guide for the Rome sight seeing bus and he showed us where to purchase the shuttle bus tickets back to the airport. (At a booth outside the station! Cost €6.00, don't know why!) The taxi from airport to Rome will cost you €30 one way! So would recommend public transport, which is easy to follow. Super place to visit, safe, but beware of the street hawkers, selling 'selfie' sticks, roses, umbrellas, and large scarves, which get on your nerves.
