Each time it's different because they discuss what's happening on the river at the time you're there. This visit we've seen lots of alligators, including a baby, yellow, bellied slider turtles, lots of osprey, starting to raise their young and some beautiful plant life as well as the lore that goes with both the ICW, the rivers and all that goes on there. We always take visitors here. However, it's a place for locals to go over and over again. It's one of my favorite ways to relax and spend some time on the water. This visit we saw Peacock that must've been 8 feet long. He was magnificent. It would be a great place to or friends to show them a little appreciation!

We decided on the yellow and blue trail in waccamaw wildlife refuge. Reviews i had read from other sources stated that they had seen lots of wildlife over off this trail. The trail was pretty secluded and felt set back away from everything. There were so many trees! Absolutely loved it! We walked on a blanket of pine needles for a good chunk of the trail and then on a boardwalk for part of the trail. Saw lots of spider webs, some caterpillars, lots of lizards, some birds, and then a squirrel. The trail was quiet on a friday morning, we only saw a handful of people. It was a lovely stroll in nature and one of the highlights of the trip. It definitely made me want to come back to south carolina to come and explore with some friends and really go and see more of the beauty!

Absolutely beautiful area and well worth the visit…read more We took a drive out to Conway yesterday. It's truly an Americana town with so much history dating as far back to the 1732 British settlement. We took a lovely stroll on the Riverwalk and soaked in the scenery. Saw many different types of boats coming thru on the water as the trailhead is right there. Boaters can even dock, do lunch or simply just walk around town. Few people were fishing, and many families were enjoying the fully fenced in playground. A local hot spot right on the edge of the riverwalk is a place called Chanti's Pizza, it's a popular local restaurant that caters to many homeowners, as well as great reviews by numerous visitors that come to town too! Would be a perfect place to dine if spending some time here and wanting to have lunch or dinner on the water. It's truly an iconic boardwalk trail (approximately 1.5-mile of a scenic pathway) along Waccamaw River that goes under the US-501 bridge and over some extremely old railroad tracks. Stunning views of the river and an abundance of Spanish moss draping the trees. Definitely a must do if you are near this community or while traveling on vacation just as we were.

There's plenty of parking on the side streets and parking lot. Check out the official Conway town website for the most updated information of events starting in December - tree lighting, caroling, shows in the theater. 20-30 minutes from Myrtle Beach. Best of all, it's free. In October, definitely come back for the Halloween town when the trees are decorated with hanging pumpkins and there are spooky displays everywhere. The calendar features events like movie nights, food trucks, and the scare factory.

This place is awesome. Whether you're a mountain biker, trail runner, or trail walker, this park…read morehas 7 total miles of trails and so many twists and turns and ups and downs, you're surely to get your money's worth...especially since it's free! They don't call this sucker The Hulk for nothin'! You'll see what I mean if you try it out, as you should. It's an awesome trail system. The volunteer mountain biking group that maintains this park/trail system does an unbelievable job on tweaking, perfecting, balancing, and general upkeep of this entire system. It's a ton of work, no doubt, and they shirk no tasks, that's obvious. Thanks so much to that group for all they do here. Seriously. You guys friggin' rock. The trail system seems to have pretty much everything that you might be looking for from tons of hills, jumps, berms, thickly wooded shady areas, a few open stretches to get your sun's rays, and even some tiny wooden bridges to quickly traverse. My favorite time to hit this trail system is a day after a good soaking rain when the trails are just a bit soggy and not too sandy/dusty. There's tons of parking all over, both on the street and in a dedicated lot, there's a porta john for your emergency situations, and even a bike pump and set of community bike tools if you need to tighten this or loosen that. This park also has a couple of heavy duty metal painted green picnic tables in a shaded/covered area that you can escape to from the sun/rain or just sit at to rest your weary legs post workout. It's at those tables that you'll see the map for the entire park. The only suggestion I'd have is that maps be put out on the trails in various spots for the newbs that have a tendency to get lost (which happens frequently in here). There's just soooo many twists and turns and switchbacks that it's easy to get yourself turned around. Me myself, shoot, I got lost the 2nd time I was there. Yes, the trails are well marked in terms of which direction bikers should travel and which direction to go as a runner, but there is only one overall schematic map I've seen on the 3 different trails, so once you're out there, you're basically on your own. If you carry a cellphone, I'd suggest taking a pic of the main trail map before heading in. If you go on a weekend though, you're likely to encounter other people, so even if you do get lost, there's a good chance someone will be nearby that can help you get your bearings and figure out how to get back to the trailhead. The trails do run into one another so it's easy to end up on a trail you weren't planning on hitting. Bring water to drink because you'll likely get really hot during and after killing these trails, but hey, they call it THE HULK for a reason. This sucker is a beast of a system, but so, so, so much fun. I absolutely love running this park because it always gives me a different cardio workout from what I get from road running and is so much more challenging. Plus, I likes me the nature. Overall, you won't see a lot of kids riding mountain bikes here. It seems to be a little too difficult for kids, especially those that are pre-teen. I'd say experienced teen riders would have no surprise problems here at all though. You just don't want to bring your 7 year old that hasn't been riding mountain bikes too long; not that kind of place. Too challenging. And finally, there are snakes in this park. Duh...it's their home...just be aware that there are rattlesnakes and other types and keep your eyes open. They're there, but don't let that keep you from checking this system out. It's not like I see a snake every time I go or anything, it's just, you know, be aware that they are around so keep your eyes open. The posted pics are a great reflection of what some aspects of the trails basically look like if you're wondering.
