Great place for a sunny afternoon drink and bite to eat. Perfect location just by the river. The coffee was good, the drinks a bit pricey and the food was tasty too. They had a big screen with tennis matches on so that drawn people to stop by. Would definitely go back.

If your interstate friends were visiting Melbourne for the weekend, where would you take them? Don't you dare say Transport! Just walk a few more metres towards the water and you'll find yourself at Riverland. A place that is sure to impress your touristy friends! Gourmet hot dogs? TICK. Icy cold ciders and beers? TICK Riverside drinkin'? TICK Yep, it's just as sexy as it sounds. But be warned, a lot of other people know it's sexy too so prepare yourself to wait a while for a cosy table, this place gets packed!

You know those beautiful Sunday afternoons, where it's not quite summer yet, but the sun is shining and it's warm enough to venture out in less than a ski jacket and gloves? You know, every Sunday from September until March? But seriously, this place is made for those Sundays! You get: views of the river (with enough champagne it looks 'clean'), views of the gardens so you think you're actually in them, seats so you don't actually have to sit IN the park, heaters for when it is a bit too cold for that sheer sweater you're rocking, and a roof to protect your perfect hair. Riverland is a lovely, outdoor bar/café, one level below the street to get away from the chaos. Prices are quite reasonable, and you can grab draft beers, bottles of champagne, little noshes and even a hotdog when they fire up the grill. Heaven on earth for those Sundays that are all too much of a reality around here!

I've been here a few times, and the one really annoying thing about this place is that if it starts to rain then you are in a lot of trouble (which is just what happened the last time I popped in here). Anyway, this is a bar on the banks of the Yarra set up in some old storage sheds located underneath Fed Square. There is also an elevator that takes you from Fed Square down to the bar (or you can simply use the stairs). While the bar does have some indoor areas it is mostly outdoors, under cover, but not entirely undercover. Also, it does get pretty crowded most days (and nights), and the selection of beers aren't all that great either. Still, I do like the atmosphere, and the fact that it sits alongside the Yarra.

Located on my favourite bike path in Melbourne, the Main Yarra Trail, the other day it was beautiful weather and I set out on the ride to Riverland in the need of the best gourmet organic hotdog in town. I could tell that I was getting close as the intoxicating smell of the barbecue started to make me salivate. I put my bike down and followed my nose to where the smell was coming from only to be stopped in my tracks as I saw a display cabinet filled with the Argentinian delight that is the empanada. It looked a little big to be a real empanada but whilst reminiscing about how good they were in Argentina I had to have one. It wasn't the same. I should have stuck to what I know Australians do best...barbecue! Riverland is the perfect place to get the real Victorian experience of sitting by a river eating a barbecue and having a beer. It doesn't get better than that.

Did someone say river views? For sure, Riverland is situated right on the river. And they sell a range of freshly barbequed bangers, can it get any better? Well the answer is actually yes. Don't get me wrong Riverland is a great place, especially for a warm summer's day or evening, where you can hear the light wash of the river heading its merry way towards the sea. But the fact is that this place is super expensive. Unless you are prepared to pay $12 a pint for a very average beer or $15 a pint for a slightly better than average Asahi beer - then you are probably better off heading under the bridge situated near-by to drink goon with the street bums. After all the river views are just as spectacular here - and there is ample shade!

Hotdog. Don't really need to say much else.

Been here a few times for drinks but today is the first time I've eaten. On the recommendation of another Yelp review tried one of the hot dogs. Pretty tasty and good value. On a sunny Sunday afternoon this is a great place to spend a few hours. Staff could maybe be a little bit more attentive but no real complaints.

A happening spot along the yarra river, it seems as though you can somehow snag a table with a waiter to get food and drinks or order from the walk up window. A pint is $14AUD which is probably normal for the aussies but a little shocking coming from the US. Perhaps you pay for the setting. They had a good cover band that did a lot of popular songs from the fray to the killers to plain white tee's. The drinks were cold and honestly that's all we needed at that point in our sweaty, tiring travel day!

Absolutely disappointing experience and appalling customer service. The vibe looked good and we…read moredecided to take a chance. We entered at 11pm and decided to get a bottle of sparkling. No one informed us about any policy. We paid for the bottle with 5% service charge which I do not think they deserved. We had a sudden work call at 11.30pm and grabbed the bottle to go, only for the staff to chase us to the front of the bar to inform us that they do not have a takeaway license. For christ sake, we already had bought the bottle!! Though it's alright, we respect policy. They highlighted that they needed to keep the bottle in the establishment. We asked if we could come back and finish it. They said they would keep our bottle. We rushed back to our hotel (Marriott- 200m away for the call). When we returned at 11.58pm, they had already thrown our bottle away. Unbelievable! They were quick to receive our money but equally quick to throw our experience out the window. No doubt, we returned almost at closing times but throwing our wine before closing time - if you wanna go by the book, that is still not your closing time. When we raised our grievances to the staff, she said she told us about closing time at 12 midnight. However, we emphasised that she should have let us know about the takeaway policy and license. Had we known, we would not have ordered a bottle. She looked at us blankly and simply replied "feedback received, but we do not allow anyone in after 12, so you have to leave". Quite honestly, ChatGPT / Claude / Grok could have conveyed more empathy. I am not a VIP customer nor am I a high spender. That being said, I value places with a human connection and empathy, and would regularly visit such places with joy and happiness multiple times. This place is not one of them. For this reason, I will never visit again. If you think likewise, and value authenticity and a true Aussie welcome, you would not visit this place. I hate to give negative reviews but please spend your money elsewhere.

I would come back to Melbourne just to come here again- good drinks, cool atmosphere…read more . The staff was so nice. Definitely worth the overwhelming hype this place gets .

From the moment you walk in, there's a buzz that makes the place feel alive without being overwhelming. It strikes a great balance between upscale and relaxed, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening out. The warm lighting and eclectic design add to the charm and make you want to linger. Service was friendly, attentive, and well-paced throughout the night. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu, checked in on us at the right moments, and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. Every dish we ordered was excellent -- not a single miss. We started with the Cauliflower & Mozzarella Croquettes, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The Grilled King Prawns were flavorful and cooked just right, while the Kingfish Ceviche was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The Stracciatella & Heirloom Tomatoes was simple yet outstanding, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For mains, the Duck Breast was cooked perfectly and full of rich flavor, and the Lamb Backstrap was tender and well-seasoned. The Pecorino & Ricotta Ravioli was comforting and delicate, while the Seafood Linguine stood out with generous portions of seafood and a beautifully balanced sauce. The Honey Glaze Carrots were the perfect side -- sweet, savory, and executed flawlessly. Overall, State of Grace delivers on every level -- ambience, service, and food. An exceptional spot that lives up to the hype, and one we'd absolutely return to on our next visit to Melbourne.
