I stayed here over the weekend. I don't even know where to begin. The place seems good because it's…read morecheap. It's only about $50 per night to stay here, and it's great as a last resort, since most hotels were totally full due to the Independence Day holiday. You also get a free homemade breakfast, and you can eat it outside on the large porch while watching the birds and cats. Examples of breakfast entrees served are a breakfast quiche, breakfast casserole, and french toast. The couple who owns the inn is friendly too, and they like to come over and chat while you're eating. Because of this, I added a star to the rating. Otherwise, I would not stay here. There is no internet access, free wi-fi, cell phone service, or even phone in the rooms. No amenities, such as shampoo, conditioner, razor, or soap, is provided. I think this is bad when you've been traveling on an airplane. You are provided access to a refrigerator (unlimited sodas and bottled water - though they ran out of water) and microwave. There really isn't housekeeping service. The trash cans are never emptied (really bad after you've been on a road trip), the bed is never made for you, sheets aren't changed during your stay, and towels are replaced every other day (it seems). The worst part of the stay though was the smell of hydrogen sulfide whenever you ran the water. Because of this, I won't stay here again. If someone takes a shower, the whole room smells like rotten eggs, and it's disgusting. The same applies to brushing your teeth. If you brushed your teeth and used the tap water instead of bottled water, you'd have this rancid taste in your mouth. Gross!

There is very limited access to our everyday technologies, but it is also great to be able to quietly think and read on the front porch. Sandy and I stayed here from 8/1/2018 through 8/11/2018 and loved every minute of it. Judy made a wonderful country breakfast every morning, and Dale pretty well stayed out of her way, while regaling us with History and stories of rural life gone by. It is a working farm, but the Mills take time to help us enjoy the hospitality. Also, ask Dale for a quick canoe trip, it absolutely makes the trip, and is is incredibly relaxing.

The house is literally within walking distance of the Story Country Conservation Center and beautiful McFarland Park, a 200 acre park that offers nearly 6 miles of walking trails through tall grass prairie and woodland habitat with a 6.5 acre lake and streams. Owner and chef Stewart Hinerfeld shows off his culinary skills using fresh produce grown on the property. And it goes without saying the food is amazing and unlike anything I have ever encountered at other inns. The house offers all of the charm and nostalgia of yesteryear with its antique furnishings, yet with all of the modern ammenities including very reliable wireless internet service. I was literally given access to the entire house and property and was most grateful for the opportunity to set up my microscope in the living area so I could continue to study prior to my exam. I especially enjoyed the company of the two friendly felines, Stewie and Stella, who took an exceptional liking to my microscope and enjoyed sitting next to me while I continued cramming for my exam. Every single detail of this house is beautifully done. Take a step into the turn of the century. How could you not pour yourself a thimble of sherry and sit quietly in the living room just absorbing the wonder, thinking about the intervening 125 years, the lives lived; the joys and sorrows, the losses, the loves. Magical? Indeed. (Feeling peckish? There are probably a few fresh baked goodies in the kitchen.) The feather bed was.....a dream! Lovely soaps and lotions are all here for bathing. Big cozy super fresh towels and best linens. And breakfast. Wow. You won't need lunch. It changed daily. A generous bowl of fresh fruit with yogurt always started it. Then each day was different-a frittata, French toast, pancakes, eggs with sausages or bacon. Yum. I sort of don't want to leave. But. Yeah. Back to life. Back to reality.
