I've…read morevisited 3-4 times over the past couple of years and the things that you can find here never ceases to amaze me. There are actually two shops - a clothing store and a "everything else" store (you know, books, CDs, ornaments etc). Being a girl, I tend to be in the clothing store more often than not. It's generally quite quiet in the store and the staff are really friendly, sharing stories of people who have brought stuff in and generally having a chat with you, which is nice. I've had some great finds too - but you have to be prepared to rummage around. I've bought a few coats and one really nice Shanghai Tang dress, which I was super pleased with! If you like a bargain, then the Red Cross Shop is for you. From time-to-time, they also seem to have half price sales on the clothes, which is nice too. And you leave the store with a feel-good feeling - you are reusing something that somebody else didn't want, you can gift-aid your purchase so that the Red Cross gets the tax back, and a donation goes to the Red Cross too. It's nice to come here, even if it's just for a browse.

The guys at the veg stalls shouting 'PAND A BANANAS' with their cockney accents, the vibrant global stores selling tropical food and fresh spices . Those were the days when Queens Market use to be eclectic and full life. 18 years later and Queens Market is now Queens Ghetto. I feel let down =( She has lost her charm and I've lost a part of my childhood. Right at the front of the market you're greeted with one BIG massive stall that sells S & M lingerie. I remembered walking past there once and witnessed a poor little boy ogling at the mannequins goodies. There are stores in there that you would find at any high street and there's tons of pounds shops (most probably to fill in the spaces). Queens Market only has a few good stores left like the Asian, African, Caribbean and the fish and chip shop. The awkward scent of rotten fish & meat will stick to your nasal passage for awhile. Goodies include the haberdashery stall - highly competitive prices and very valuable with the increased interest recently in dress making. There are numerous fabric stalls and a first rate curtain shop with some very good quality fabrics, tracks, swags and rails. The weekly vegetable shopping is economical with an excellent selection of fruit. It certainly isn't littered with pound stalls but there is a range of hairdressing and cosmetic shops selling very reasonably priced human hair extensions and accessories. The market and Green Street is the only place in Newham that we still shop. It has a unique charm without hordes of dreary clone shops.

It's not huge but you get the feeling that every stall has been picked for its supreme quality. There's an interesting macrobiotic yoghurt stall, a 'deli' stall selling vibrant salads, whopping great scotch eggs and other savoury treats, a fish stall with a variety of fresh delights from the sea, a stall of the yummiest, sweet baked creations you've ever seen, a stall selling gluten free pasta - stuffed with various delicious combinations, a local fruit and veg stall and a fresh bread stall. It's all achingly middle class (and equally aching on the wallet!) but the food is divine and it's a first class Saturday afternoon activity.

The reviews I'd read where right, it's a beautiful small restaurant, very quiet even though it is in the centre of things. There was a lot of food, we couldn't finish the scones. There are no refills, but for us it didn't matter. I asked for a refill of our tea pot, I could see the waitress was ready to launch into "we don't do refills" before I'd even finished speaking! I ask if we could just have some hot and she obliged kindly. All in all great value for money.

There is great access for both wheelchairs and pushchairs, with a ramp outside and plenty of room to manoveur inside. Its really child friendly with a lovely play area full of books and toys for the younger ones. There is always a lovely atmosphere and you are always made to feel welcome. Food is nice and prices are really cheap - the kids love coming here and meeting with friends and play!
