I knew nothing about deep tissue massage. It was a very rough experience. I ended up with an acutely sore hip and thigh that is worse than when I came in 4 days earlier. It still hurts badly 4 days later. The owner claims it is out of his expertise to understand why. Yet he claims to be an expert in the field. l've been to a lot of massage therapists over the years, and honestly this is the first one I actually keep wanting to go back to consistently. And I'm picky - maybe because I'm a physician. Idk. He's super personable and easy to talk to, but more importantly he actually listens to what you're saying about where things hurt and what you want worked on. And somehow his hands can read you like a book - like he can tell exactly where the tension is without me having to explain much. It's amazing and probably my favorite aspect. I've gone in with some pretty bad chronic pains, both injuries and postural things, and every time I leave feeling noticeably better. Not magically, but definitely improved in a way that lasts a few months. Also worth mentioning, twice over the past year! completely missed appointments without giving notice (my fault), and he was way more professional and understanding about it than I probably deserved. I have been going to Riverside Orthopedic Massage for almost a year now, and I can definitely feel a difference in tension release and soreness following treatment. Michael truly knows what he's doing, and he's a consummate professional. One of the great bonuses of working with Michael is that he is able to sometimes accommodate same-day appointments and holidays (as long as you schedule prior to the day of the holiday). This was a lifesaver on the Fourth of July after running the Peachtree Road Race. Note that this is medicinal grade orthopedic massage; so there are no candles, aromatherapy, or zen music. It's a relaxed, quiet setting, and the massage table is extremely comfortable. Michael really breaks down and stretches the muscle fibers, so the massage is ideal for athletes, runners, cyclists, and those with muscle pain resulting from medical issues (like TMJ, which I personally suffer from).
