Jersey Shore Sailing

This was such an amazing experience!! I bought this deal off of Groupon which had expired since I…read morebought it in the winter time but the owner still allowed me to accept the voucher and use it at a later time whatever was convenient for me. The owner is Captain Hess, he is extremely accommodating, friendly, experienced and a great sailor!! Capt Hess gives out directions, instructions and words to study before coming to sail just so you have basic knowledge of some key words that are used while sailing. I really walked into this not know what it would be like. Capt Hess walks you through absolutely everything. Some times I would get scared but he was extremely comfortable and would put us at ease because he knew exactly what to do. I learned so much about sailing and I would love to do it again!! We learned so much and really credit sailors because it is a lot of work! A lot of science goes into this, balance, strength and patience. Loved it!! He has water available if you don't have or forget. He also allowed small snacks on board. Don't forget to wear closed shoes and apply sunscreen before your sail! I would recommended everyone to try this!!

We took a sunset sail, which was so amazing! Eric is a fun & friendly guide and he teaches guests how to take the wheel. It was a relaxing and enjoyable way to enjoy the Toms River at sunset! We highly recommend it!

We've been going to Nelson's for 3 years now and heartily endorse the center. Everyone is friendly…read moreand very competent. You can rent a sailboat or a catamaran to take out, or you can hire a captain to do all of the work for you. We had my birthday party aboard the big catamaran and had a great time traversing the Toms River on a sunny day while we enjoyed drinks and snacks. Their rates are reasonable, and their boats are well maintained. They'll teach you to sail if you want to learn, and help you sharpen your skills if it's been a while since you've sailed. Taking sailing lessons would be a great stay-cation for a family that didn't want to travel this summer!

Regarding Jim R. review:…read more Seems like Nelson Sailing Center is taking advantage of their supposed monopoly on the local sailing school market. Clearly they do not appreciate you as a customer. Here is another option: Monmouth County Park System offers summer sailing classes on the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell, NJ. The classes are taught by certified instructors and they have sailing camps for kids. Here is the web site, but keep in mind that this is a Summer program, so the info may not be available until Spring. "http://www.monmouthcountyparks.com/program1/index.aspx" Best of all...no jelly fish! I have been renting sail boats at Manasquan Reservoir for the past few years, and have been very happy. Nelson is not the only option, and does not deserve your business!

A Day On The Bay - Steering the boat

A Day On The Bay

One of the Best Sailing Experiences of My Life!…read more I had the most fantastic experience sailing on the Jersey Shore's Barnegat Bay on a beautiful September day. The "Steph-Er-Laur" is a Beneteau 32-foot sloop owned by sailboat charter company "A Day On The Bay." The tour departs from The Inn at Rivers Edge Marina, 223 East Lacey Rd. Forked River, NJ 08731 with easy access from the Garden State Parkway Exit 74. The sailing vessel has plenty of cockpit space and foredeck for relaxing while you sit back and take in the sights and beauty of the best sailing area that Barnegat Bay has to offer, including the Barnegat Lighthouse. This trip brought back so many beautiful memories for me since I sailed my pram sailboat, "Little Dipper," here as a child. The weather was perfect, and I had an outstanding time sailing with Captain Warren and his wife, Andi, who served as the "First Mate." I was a lieutenant with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for 14 years and was impressed that Captain Warren went over the safety features of the boat and our trip before we left the dock. As a current university professor, I give Captain Warren an "A+" for sharing this important information first. I was also impressed that the sailboat was inspected and certified for safety by the US Coast Guard and that Captain Warren, is a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain. A fellow passenger, Donna, was on the trip for a sailing lesson. Captain Warren is a terrific instructor, and I learned a few new things myself! Barnegat Bay is a very safe place to learn how to sail and enjoy the loveliness of the experience. The feeling is hard to describe as the sails catch the wind and the sloop gently heals over. Cold water and light snacks were offered, including a large and very clean bathroom or "head" as they are known on sailing vessels. I enjoyed the opportunity to take the helm and benefited from the Captain's extensive experience with wind, surf, and sail. I can't thank "A Day on the Bay" enough for a wonderful experience! Warren just two days before and he was able to accommodate my wife and me for a sunset sail. Cpt Warren and his wife Andy are a warm, outgoing couple who truly love sailing and their passengers. We were treated like longtime friends. The cruise itself was a bit over 3 hours, we got a n opportunity to steer the boat, and were treated to a spectacular sunset. It's obvious these two truly love sailing because there was no set duration, no "We'll be back at the dock by 8." They wanted us to share in their passion for sailing and relax and enjoy the whole experience. Nothing was rushed. We've taken more of these types of sails than I can count, and this is by far the most enjoyable, relaxing, and best value for our money, we've found. Cpt Warren and Andy are highly recommended, without reservation. Give them a call, you won't be disappointed.

The pool is great for hot weather. They also have drinks and food. I ordered a Diet Coke, a Bloody Mary, and the shrimp quesadilla with sour cream and salsa on the side although they don't have guacamole. The food was really good, and they are one of the few places that have a gluten-free option for quesadillas. The food was really good too, and I loved the drinks. I also loved the chairs by the pool, and I was relaxed most of the time. The only things that I have in mind regarding the pool regard some members of the staff. I noticed at one point that one of the lifeguards wasn't paying attention to his section of the pool when two boys were roughhousing in the water. He was either looking away or talking to someone else which was dangerous to pool guests. There was also a time when all members were kicked out of the pool area because of preparation for a picnic event. I understood that they needed time to prepare, but they didn't have to kick everyone out so soon and there was a woman with a clipboard who was short and rude with guests and members who were paying to be there. One of the guests had even filed a formal complaint, and I could see that it was a mess. Although it was a not-so-great experience, I know that the club is pretty great for the most part and this only happens once in a blue moon.

All for $180 plus per foot (which includes all the "hidden" fees). Ok let's get to the hidden truth. The old owner Brian was hated by EVERYONE! And they kept his son employed which has similar business practices! Like Father like son! So we got a new owner! Elliot! spoiled daddy's boy.. The expression "lipstick on a pig" has never been more truthful. He belittled this 20-year-old kid in a parking lot over parking his JetSki temporarily waiting for his father to show up, over July 4th weekend. Mind you, his family has 3 slips at the marina for 10 years. He was very aggressive with me as well! (I will leave my Personal opinion of him and his wife to myself). He bores the slip holders to death with his own drunken stories every night, but they all are too polite to say anything but will talk shit behind his back all day! Elliot - go find friends! There are 2 females (Can't say ladies) that talk meanly about kids every time the kids are around and having fun. At the pool they act like they own the place!! you two know who you are! If you don't like being around children and complain about them, then simply leave! Rude! Other people there enjoy seeing children having fun. Mind you, there are only 10 kids, at the most that frequent the facilities. They sell you on family place my butt.... They have signs everywhere "dogs on leash" but they don't put their own dog on a leash!! Practice what you Preach! FAKE NEWS! Four reviews on this site are fake from employees and his mother! Let's move on! I went into the marina office asking for help with one of my boats safety issues and his wife, Karen, forgot to inform her husband in a timely fashion which caused huge issues. The son of the old owner who I spoke with directly in the service department would not help me for over 3 weeks after informing him I was going on a trip because he was too busy with Formula warranty service work. I attempted to bring in a sub, as per the agreement prior to the new owner, and was denied and told to my face that they changed the policy, without putting it in writing or an email to the slip holders. I have Cummings diesel's! You'd be mad not to use Chuck from CB Marine and they would not allow him on the property even after he's been there many times servicing other peoples boats for 15 years. FYI you can bring your boat for the day or week and use anybody you want at Lighthouse point marina to fix your boat! Just call ahead and ask for Carmen. That's where I moved my boat! They have a real pool not that tiny over sized hot tub with horrible hours, it closes at 4 pm on the weekend. They blame it on insurance!! ANOTHER LIE. I have owned two insurance agencies and I know commercial insurance! They rob you in the service department any chance they get. Do not get your boat serviced there! One example is a friend on the dock asked for a full detail they quoted him $2100. To begin with, that is more money than anyone should pay for a 38 foot boat. Just a polish!! After the boat was put in the water he received a bill for $700 more. . I got my boat done for 1,200 and my boat is 7 feet longer with a bridge! This is the most common problem with this marina. Another example is using an employee to install complicated radar equipment and charging them $3000 and it still doesn't work till this day. No refund or compensation for anything and they broke his boat! Amazing bad service. I have more but running out of space! Here is a perfect example.. the owner told all the boaters you cannot Wash your boat on the ground before you launch. They won't let you use water there.. look at the law in NJ! Open the link below!! https://www.nj.gov/dep/njcleanmarina/docs/boatrinsingpolicy.pdf Another up charge scam!! I personally can't wait for the COVID boaters to sell and this marina will be the best day boaters marina in history! All true and I can't wait to hear the bull crap response from bobble head!
