My husband and I had been bringing our dog to Garden District Animal Hospital for three years, but…read morewithout much enthusiasm. We've finally decided to invest the time to find a better vet. Here are my positive and negative observations of this clinic: Positives: - The staff were friendly and affectionate with our dog. - They're open late (until 6:30 PM or so, I think) some days, which is convenient if you work until 5 PM. - About a year ago, our dog needed surgery and they referred us to a great local veterinary surgeon. Negatives: - Very rushed and chaotic feeling to the practice. This feeling was not specific to certain days of the week or times of the day. There's a chronic sense that they're churning dogs and people through. - There are at least two different veterinarians at this practice, and your pet will see whoever is working/available at the time you come in - so there is NO sense that the vet gets to know your pet and provides personalized care. - Our dog had some strange breathing problems last spring, and at a vet's recommendation at this clinic, we paid a couple of hundred dollars extra for x-rays, which were then sent to LSU to be read by an expert (or something like that). After over a week had passed and we hadn't heard back from Garden District Animal Hospital with the results, we called them - and they had completely forgotten about the x-rays and either never sent them to LSU or never followed up with LSU to get the results. Basically, they still didn't have the results because they'd forgotten about the x-rays. - Some of the staff really need to work on how they communicate over the phone. On more than one occasion, I've had someone answer the phone when I called here with "Yes?". (In other words, NOT "You've reached the Garden District Animal Hospital, how can I help you?") You really get the sense that they're stressed, rushed, and your call is another hassle. - When we adopted our dog as a 20-pound puppy, a veterinarian at this practice told us that based upon our pup's dental development, she believed him to be full-grown. As an adult dog (who is not overweight), he's over 50 pounds. This example doesn't speak to the quality of care they provide, of course, but what else are they completely wrong about?
