I've been interviewed by two more writers this year about the horrible treatment and lack of care of people / human beings in need of real help by real professionals who can help those in need. I'm hoping these writers have struck the nerve of people operating the Shawshank of mental illness or severe depression. I'm hoping it's been reconstructed it's so called professional medical staff. Also it's robbery of good health insurance of those who have it. Beware look for other options over this horrid sham disguised as a mental health facility. I saw younger patients and pray the parents thinking of sending their teens or younger there. I dare say they'll come out worse than when they go in. Look for other options. For their sake and wasted funds only paying for horrible treatment and make worse their condition to the point I'd dare say push them to harming themselves. This place is very unclean and the people that work there are very rude and mean. They get mad or upset for asking for water or anything else. They don't help people with their problems or really even address them. It's like a prison that doesn't have bars on the windows. My brother was in the hospital for 3 weeks with pneumonia and they didn't even make him do any physical therapy the whole time he was there. He stayed in bed for 3 weeks and then they sent him to Riverwoods without pt and they told him the hospital said he had pt but hadn't. They expected him to walk and do things on his own without help after being in a bed for 3 weeks and was very smart to him because he couldn't do things for himself. They didn't help him mentally or physically at all. Very disappointed in this place. Minus 5 stars read more

Warning!! Do not take your loved there! They do NOT return calls. They will not communicate with you, the family, in in any way unless they need paperwork. My brother-in-law is mentally handicapped and unable to use telephones unless he has help. We called everyday at least twice sometimes three times a day. And never heard back from anyone!!!!! This "hospital " gets a ZERO. My husband is here now bleeding from a major artery, and NO ONE seems concerned. They do more lying in the updates and charts than they do anything else. He's been waiting over 5 hours. The staff makes you wonder if they are Bona-fide Healthcare workers, nurses, or doctors. RUN ‍ ‍ FOR YOUR LIFE. I AM NOT A PATIENT I have just been trying to contact my significant other who is currently in Riverwoods because of a 10/13 during a psych evaluation. But I haven't been able to get in contact with them by me calling them only them calling me. There's supposed to be a system allowing for outside people to talk to patients but it's horrible disorganized and sloppy. I was left on a line listening to workers talk and move around the phone while no one talked to me or told me what was happening. All I can really do is worry from the outside and hope my significant other calls when they can read more

I was transferred from the hospital due to an overdose and the treatment was horrible. When I arrived they put me in a waiting room for four hours sitting on a chair. They were extremely rude. Then they transferred me to a room with everyone else and nobody talks to you and none of the nurses welcome you or say anything. Most of the time they just make you watch TV. Dinner is served at 4 pm. On Tuesday morning they locked me in my room because I tested positive for COVID but they left me completely alone. Not even the nurses helped me. When I asked for water they treated me badly. I was isolated from everyone even though I had no symptoms but they insisted I had COVID. They do not let you make phone calls and you only get 10 minutes. They tell you they can only keep you for 48 hours but that is a lie because they keep you for at least 5 days and if you have good insurance they keep you even longer. I was going crazy in that room alone. I cried and I felt stressed and desperate and not once did anyone come to help me not even a doctor. I stayed there for 5 days and only saw my doctor twice. They do not help you at all. It is the worst place. The staff is horrible. One time I told a nurse that it was really cold in there and she said "I know." I was isolated for 4 days with no contact with anyone. The treatment was pathetic. Dinner is at 4 pm and they do not even give you snacks only a banana or an apple. The food is always mac and cheese pizza and fries. Most of the time everyone is just watching TV and the staff is on their phones yelling at people. It was horrible. I hope they shut that place down because it is the worst facility in the entire United States. read more

I was a patient here and it was amazing there i dont know why so many bad reviews are on here.They had amazing food, games, activities, watching tv, and listing to music I felt safe there and I just got out yesterday and I wanna go back I recommend this place it was the best experience for a mental health place. read more

If they ask you if you want to go to this place say no I wish this place would get shut down I just got out of there yesterday morning and had the worst 5 days of my life there where only to staff that where actually nice Mrs Kim and Mrs Chris half of them you can't even understand what they're saying most of them are very unprofessional screaming and yelling at other patients. I was in there and they had fights and they didn't even really care to break it up. They just like let it Go they put me on so many different medicines that I've never been on before and for anxiety and it makes me feel like I had more anxiety if they has to give you shots tell them no. Or ask them what's in it before they give it to you Because most of the time they won't tell you till they already give it to you there's a lot more things going on in this place that nobody knows of parents don't believe their children The place is trashy and falling apart All I care is for this place to be shut down read more

Worst week of my life was spent here 2 years ago... and it wasn't cause it was a behavioral health program, it was 100% cause of the staff. Speaking on the adolescent unit as a 17 year old at the time... I was never able to talk to my family because they did not monitor how long kids were on the phone and who they were talking to. We had one hour of phone time I believe for everyone there, and quite a few people spent the entire time speaking to their boyfriends. My mom actually called one day concerned I was avoiding her. They did not give out bedding fairly. I slept on my hoodie the whole week while they gave my roommate two pillows. I have P.O.T.S. and no one cared that I wasn't feeling well until a nurse came around and saw my feet were blue and puffy (by making fun of them) due to the lack of fluids I received while here. Once the doctor allowed me more fluids anytime I was given some the people watching us would always hand it to me and then tell me I'm watching you or we don't trust you when I literally did nothing wrong. I was just there for a diagnosis and medication change. I got hit in the head while in the gym really hard and the caretakers couldn't care less that my head was hurting badly from it. I got yelled at for crying and told crying is a weakness. Overall people were just pretty rude and did not really seem to care about you. I also did the majority of my paperwork myself. The lack of communication between the staff, my parents, and even myself was astonishing. I believe mental health care can be beneficial. Therapy and medication truly changed my life. This place however is not the place to get said help. It honestly just made it harder for me to ask for help. read more

Riverwoods Behavioral Health is an absolute disgrace when it comes to patient mental health care, and quite frankly, they shouldn't even be allowed to operate. My recent discharge from that wretched place after enduring 4 days and 3 nights of sheer misery has left me utterly disgusted. It's abundantly clear management is more interested in wringing every last penny out of its victims than actually providing any semblance of genuine care. The staff was overwhelmed with the number of patients and had limited resources. From the moment I stumbled into their so-called facility seeking alcohol detox treatment, I was met with an absurd demand for insurance information. As if that wasn't infuriating enough, they swiftly thrust a bill in my face, essentially demanding a payment. Never in my wildest nightmares did I expect to be extorted while intoxicated. It's an outright display of predatory behavior that preys on the vulnerable and disoriented. Days were spent either vegetating in front of a blaring TV, perched on excruciatingly uncomfortable plastic chairs, or locked in our rooms under the guise of "reflection time". We were supposed to have 4 varied sessions among the other scheduled activities I've attached throughout the day to help cope with our issues, but only one was ever conducted and extremely briefly because the charge nurse had to run off to her next task. In the 4 days I was there we were let outside on only two of our scheduled fresh air breaks. I met with a "therapist" once for all of 15 minutes where I was asked a few questions while she typed notes, checking a box. For our community goals group we were handed worksheets to fill out, again checking a box. I don't even know what the other sessions were supposed to be because we never had them. Lots of our time was spent staring at the posted schedule wondering if we were actually going to have any interactions with the staff. The staff we were meant to interact with the most were the Behavioral Health Associates. However, due to the gamification of their job we were never truly spoken to. We were tracked using armbands and were meant to be checked on every 15 minutes by getting into proximity of us and tapping our name on a tablet. This had the BHAs running around tapping on our names as rapidly as possible because they were either rewarded for the most "tags" or reprimanded if they ever let a patient go past 15 minutes. This 15 minute rule also included when we were asleep. Which meant every 15 minutes or more with 2 people per room, our door was opened and flooded with light. Both the noise and light woke me up. Think about that; if checked on a minimum of every 15 minutes, that's at LEAST 32 times a night. I don't believe I slept for a total of 2 hours the 3 nights I was there. As you can imagine a lack of sleep is NOT conducive to one's mental health. Speaking of mental health; there were patients around with clearly deeper phycological issues. I witnessed a nearly comatose young lady shuffled around until she eventually soiled herself. Another woman vomited and was met with yells from the RNs "We're not going to hold your hair for you!" Many of the patients were homeless and shuffled off to shelters. I witnessed a fight between patients and clear psychotic breaks. The RNs also joked about patients thinking they couldn't be heard. They made jokes about drinking on the job which was very triggering for the patients in for alcohol abuse. The RNs never left the nurses station and worked on paperwork 99% of the day either intaking or discharging patients. They attempted to keep you in as long as possible with no concern about the impact the facility might be having on you to be able to charge for the maximum number of days. My original discharge date was set for Saturday, an additional two days on top of when I was able to get out due to some aggressive negotiations with my family. They had to threaten legal action and report to the news to get me released into their care; both of which I'll be pursuing personally. read more

The first day my son was transported nurse called he's so agitated and asked me what meds was he on I told her well of course he is agitated coming in on a 10/13 has Autism and needs stabilization and meds regulated and she needs to go read his file. I had to send the police twice to the facility because my son was assaulted by a patient that was getting treatment in the facility. Chemically restraining (shot) and not informing), why would an individual be placed in group right a way and not stabilized and meds regulated. The lobby was filthy and lobby bathroom nasty. A window busted out in the lobby with a board up. You could barely get through phone lines. I was told straight Medicaid not accepted and they has special emergency funding set aside for those needing help. When my son was brought down he had a mark over his eye and said he had been punched by someone there seeking treatment and this person also punched two other people in there seeking treatment. This place needs to be shut down. read more

Run and never return if I could write this place a -50 that's what it would be because this place is an absolute nightmare. They falsely make reports about your medical condition that are not true just to extend your stay and keep you there longer and whenever you voice your opinion or concerns then they reprimand you. I am being held here against my will and have been over the legal stay I am currently in a voluntary status and they still not discharging me they keep injecting me with drugs just to try to keep me here longer. This place is a joke it needs to be shut down immediately I am fearful to be here the staff has stolen food and snacks that was given to me by my family never delivered they gave away my clothing and had a guy walk out with my exclusive designer shirt that I made and still allow him to leave the facility with it on. Dr. Paul is lying about my condition and is trying to keep me here longer is making false statements that I'm hearing voices and I can't articulate myself correctly and obviously that's not the case. This place is notorious for falsifying patient records and several other patients know exactly what I'm talking about so it's time for everyone to speak up and seek legal counsel immediately. This facility is all about money you are nothing but a number and you as a patient doesn't matter since I have good health insurance they are trying to milk the system and put false information on the report in order to try to keep me here longer and I've had enough I'm reaching out to the joint commission I am going to be filing all the violations including privacy violation and they are putting my family and friends through emotional distress. The reviews on this place are very real and please listen to them do not waste your time nor your money sending your family here to be nothing but abused, neglected, miss treated, take him for granted, medicated, falsification of insurance fraud, they do it and they do it really well and some of their staff even though disturbed by all these actions are more scared to lose their job. I am working with a handful of lawyers in Advocacy Group's to get me out of this place immediately but please listen to me do not come here the only thing good is the food besides that good luck to you because your life in your world is over as soon as you walk to the front door. read more

Patient care is totally not comprehensible!!! This facility is just taking individuals in and not truly accessing their mental help. Giving drugs to them without complete accessing the individuals for a check. Unbelievable!!! This place should be under investigation!!! My adult daughter was transferred to Ridgewood from a local hospital after experiencing a psychotic episode earlier this month. She remained there for 8 days. The staff and medical team was very attentive to her needs. They kept her safe and provided her with adequate care and appropriate treatment to stabilize her. Her case manager, Eva, was an absolute angel. She is a professional who is dedicated to her craft. She was nurturing and compassionate. She was always there for me and my daughter and was very comforting. My only concern was with their phone system. I often had difficulty getting through but once I did, I had no problem reaching my daughter or Eva. read more

They were supposed to do an evaluation within 48 hours. This did not happen until the 6th day as this family member was being released along with many others who they found out did not have insurance. And the best part of it was that they tried to get this family member to backdate the evaluation form and I guess other documents to show that it was done earlier instead of at the very last minute. I would never send anyone to this company. This place changes you through stress and being underappreciated. You are constantly attack/harassed by management and corporate when they know they are giving you too much work for one person then come down on you when you can do it all. I was working 12 to 16 hours days to attempt to get all the work done assigned to me and still not enough time and ugly emails from management and corporate. If you are looking for a position in the business office PLEASE just go somewhere else. working for Susan Bradford was great but she will leave you hanging out to dry in any situation. Never spent a day in this place but had to visit the facility & the only way I could describe it is "PURE TRASH"! The staff seems play communication games with the patients and the family members by saying things then deflecting from what was initially communicated. No one on the same is on the same page, so a lot of the conversation is ill advised & misleading. While the demeanor of the staff is acceptable in general, and the physical facilities seem professional, the internal communication system here is quite unacceptable. Our family member just spent 9 days here. 4 different therapists - None of which knew what the other therapists had recommended, or promised. I was at Riverwoods 6 months ago. I inherited depression from my grandmother. I was not able to get over my mom passing away. I was in therapy for people with depression. Ms. Glenda was my therapist. One day I was crying talking about my mom about how much I couldn't remember. Ms. Glenda stopped me, said her mother passed away so much years ago and her life had never been the same. The said "next". The next thing I knew Ms. Glenda told me because my depression was inherited there was nothing else that could be done for me! Now I did get two positive results from Riverwoods. Jasmine performed a Genesight test on me to see what meds would and wouldn't work for me. Next, the Director Eric explained to me the difference between inherited depression and environmental depression. He told me how inherited depression works and explained how I needed 5 back up plans. read more

I was brought in after midnight and told to strip by the nurse. Then given sheets for my bed and taken to my room. While walking down the nearly dark hallway I saw some girls sleeping in the hallway The nurse that was guiding me to my room turned on all of the lights even though there was another girl in the room sleeping and at this point, it's 3 am. When 5 am came around it was time for everyone, including me, to wake up. All the lights came on, nurses began yelling and clapping. I realized the unit I was placed in was for people with serious untreated mental illnesses (I was admitted for suicidal ideation that I expressed 2 days prior) with incompetent staff. I'll never forget seeing a patient clearly suffering an untreated mental disorder twerking in front of multiple staff members, while all they did was point and laugh. My family was refused communication with me, staff lied and told them I was not a patient there. Nurse Kim was the first person I spoke to after being admitted. It was a brief conversation but within ten minutes she told me she had no idea why I was placed in my current unit and would be getting moved as soon as possible. I'm very grateful for her because I didn't have to spend another day terrified that I was going to be hurt. The unit I was transferred to might as well be in a different facility. But don't piss off the staff or they'll transfer you back to the "crazy" unit to show their authority. The psychiatrist I was assigned to was the worst. Choosing to push drugs on me after I made it very clear I wanted to attempt therapy first. There is zero therapy. You're given worksheets, go to the gym that hasn't had money invested into it since 1967 to either play basketball or sit down at tables, and be given coloring books. The only outside time you get is if you're a smoker. By day 4 I still had not met with anyone to help me actually come up with a plan to improve my mental health. Staff told me I would be getting out that day. However, when I met with the psychiatrist again and told him I didn't start the antidepressants but was feeling better and looking forward to starting therapy I suddenly was no longer going home. By day 5 I am pissed. ***Students from Clayton State who were shadowing wanted to speak to me as part of an assignment after realizing that I was working on a degree in social work. During our discussion she asked when I was diagnosed with depression and I told her I wasn't officially diagnosed, this student pulls out a chart that has everyone in the unit's name on it, and our diagnosis. I was listed as having major depressive disorder. Not only was I not told this but I found out from a student. Staff shared my confidential medical records with a student, someone who is in no way obligated to maintain patient confidentiality, without my consent before even notifying me. While the student was showing me the sheet I was able to see multiple other patients' diagnoses including one patient's positive HIV notes.*** None of that should have been visible to the students, me, or other patients. I left Riverview determined if I was ever suicidal again I would kill myself before asking for help. Riverview completely ruined my trust in the mental health field and made me question if I really wanted to be a social worker. Riverview did not set me up with the resources to excel once leaving. All they did was scare me into not asking for help and learn to lie to doctors to not be placed back in that position. I had multiple blood tests done while at Riverwoods that I'm convinced they did not process at all considering the day after getting out I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant. Bloodwork can show pregnancy 6-8 DAYS after ovulation. How do you miss something like that?! Why would you not run pregnancy tests on female patients if you're going to attempt forcing them to take drugs when they have no internet access to research the side effects? I'm not a lawyer but that sounds like negligence to me. Even a year later it's bringing me to tears that I had to go through this experience for NO reason. My 72-hour hold turned into over a week, they diagnosed me with major depression after speaking to an RN for less than 10 minutes. Thank God for the psychiatrist I found on my own who gave me a real evaluation and diagnosed me with ADHD and general anxiety. I'm medicated and doing significantly better no thanks at all to a single person at Riverwoods. I pray this place gets shut down before they do cause patients to end up ending it all because the one time they ask for help they end up in this place. Every single staff member from the top down should be ashamed and embarrassed by what they put patients through. Riverwood should be shut down and I'll willing to go on TV and shout it from the hilltops to anyone that will listen. read more

PLEASE do not go to this place or allow anyone you love to go. They are abusive! I suffer with migraines and herniated disks in my back, which were noted in my chart by the doctor giving me permission to stay in bed as needed. One morning, I was very sick and a TECH burst in the room and yelled at me demanding that I get out of bed. I told her I was very sick. She said that if I didn't get out right then she was going to move me to the unit "where they pee on themselves"! I didn't have a choice. I had to rest my head all day on my arm, on a chair, whatever was available. My peers had warned me the take whatever the staff dished out, or they would send me to the "bad" unit and they almost did! This place is literally like a prison. They also lock patients out of their rooms during the day. I suffer with severe depression. I was sent to this place involuntarily and left even more depressed than when a was admitted. read more

When i was hospitalized here I had most of my clothes delivered to me, except that none of my clothes ever arrived to me. I was told that the clothes had been dropped off and picked up by someone who said they worked at the building. It's been over a year and i have not seen any of the clothes nor have i gotten any compensation for the money spent on the clothes. This place is pretty rough. I felt very scared when I was here for only a week. About 7 days. They dont talk well with family.I had to be taken off several medicines and had a breakdown before i got sent there and was in my local hospital with a 1013. Mind you, I am still learning to walk again and have had lots of anxiety. Being in a psych ward is SO awful when youre going thru this. Sometimes it really upset me to have to go to the cafeteria and i also have social anxiety so i told someone i needed help in order to eat and wanted to eat alone, and i couldn't even do that in my room but i was ok to just eat barely anything in the main room, because i was struggling to get just to the cafeteria. They seemed very impatient which caused me even more anxiety. One nurse especially was rude i broke down again and the food is so gross !! Who wants that type of food with no difference in taste? A lot of them are foreign and hard to understand. Finally just finally i was so glad i was able to talk with a therapist about it. These nurses can seem not very kind sometimes. One nurse was very kind named Helen. She apologized for my neighbor who i saw was very troubled and couldn't communicate with me and talked loud. No one im sure had any sleep.I couldn't hardly get any sleep here .i felt like a zombie. It was super noisy. I also didnt feel safe. People tended to fight at night. I could hear them. I understand that this is a very busy place , but they need to be nicer and not laugh at other people. Many thanks to nurse Helen!! I just wanted to express my concerns of this place . Absolutely the worst decision I ever made was to reach out to this center for help. They completely manipulated me into an in-house stay by using leading questions and prompting me for answers that I was very uncomfortable answering, instead of outpatient services and I was forced to stay for two days. By the time I realized what was happening, the doors were locked behind me and I was told that I could not leave until a doctor came in to see me (even though I had driven myself to the facility and came in on a voluntary basis) My next concern was the absolute FILTH of this place! Within just a few hours, the bottom of my socks were black and sticky. There was dirt, mud, mold and URINE on the floors! The staff was a mixed bag as well. Although some were kind and friendly, most were rude, ugly, demeaning and downright degrading. Personally, I feel that many basic human rights were being violated on a consistent basis. The food was my next concern. On my first night there, I found a long black hair in my dinner. The next day, a partial piece of butter wrapper was baked inside some apple type of dessert. There were runny, uncooked eggs, raw meat, and watered down mystery foods. After being assigned a room, there were holes in my sheets and the pillow looked as if someone had ripped it to shreds. I was not offered any personal hygiene products nor towels or anything that could be used to take a shower. When I finally was seen by a doctor, he was sick and coughing and literally coughed directly into my face repeatedly, without covering his mouth. Consequently, I am now home and sick in bed, having picked up whatever germ he had. In terms of actual 'therapy'.....it was slim to none. The doctor nor therapists actually sat down with me to offer any real help. It seemed to me, to be nothing more than a money making scheme and a scenario in which people were shuffled in and out without any real hope of finding relevant care. After 48 hours, my physical health had declined so dramatically, that I insisted on excersising my right to leave the facility. The experience was so traumatic and bad that I doubt I will ever again ask for help and that's sad. People who suffer with mental or emotional instability should never be made to feel as though they can't reach out for help. read more

I was here in the beginning of 2021. I have no idea why are reviews bad .. it wasn't that bad . The staff had a attitude as in a strong voice but mean? I've never seen a mean staff there , they rather joke around . Maybe because we weren't as a big issues ? They took us outside as a reward .. and yes I'm on a alternative account I'm not comfortable using my real name of this . When I got there , they offered me chips and drinks . It was someones birthday. This girl who had the nicest voice hugged me saying " it's okay , you'll be fine here" and we went to the gym and played that's when I got to know everyone . Dinner food was not that good .. but lunch was the best . The fries and burger were my favorite . Breakfast was okay . The check your room and just ask you to not have dirty clothes nor a messy bed . We woke everyday for blood pressure . I grew close with everyone , I made a special bond with most of them I was seen as a little brother to them . Miss them I could reunite with them I would definitely. There was this one nurse , she was the nicest . She talked to me about after highschool plans (college) they let us watch tv, it was more fun to talk to everyone rather than to do the other activities. We all took care of each other , no matter what . All the nurses were kind to us and they talked into this room to ask what we learned . if they say your being released in 3 days don't believe lol. At most 4-7 days . I went in a Wednesday was released next week Wednesday . It's not as bad as people say . I've been wanting to write this down and talk to someone about this time . I hate this place. I was transferred here from my local hospital because of a suicide attempt. Keep in mind I'm a kid so I was in the adolescent's unit for kids 10-18. They were so rude to everyone the head of the kid's unit even told us "I don't care what you guys say about me because at the end of the day I put this key in and go home while you guys don't." Most of the staff was so rude except for the phycologist I got, the nurses, and some of the people that took care of us. I don't ever want to return there. If you complained about how you were being treated, the staff would make fun of you. One time this girl came in and she started self-harming in front of all of us and the staff didn't do anything about it until 30 min after they sent us to our rooms for reflection (nap). They prescribed me some anxiety medication but when my pediatrician saw it, he said that the doses was too much for someone my age and that it was probably given to me to be sleepy all the time. There was this one girl that left, and she said that her parents were going to sue the place and I'm so glad. The information they gave my family was false, they said that I was going to be given lots of therapy there but really all we would do would watch tv. I do not recommend this place, and all of the staff that verbally mistreated us KIDS should be ashamed because no kid should ever go through that. I hope that the staff that was mean gets fired and never gets hired into another facility of mental health ever again. Monsters they're monsters. read more

This place is amazing. I had an OCD panic attack and was sent here, and they got me back to basics: coloring, playing volleyball, taking naps, thinking about why my life has value. The psychiatrists are so insightful and supportive. The food is good. I like how they don't waste any food: the peas and carrots we had the first night appeared in various other meals later on. It was moving to see people who were so broken but were trying to hard to get back on track. I will never forget this experience. Go Riverwooods!!! read more

I was recommended this place based on proximity and flexibility. The recommendation came from a different doctor's office. Long wait to be seen for an assessment. After an hour and a half of waiting in the cold lobby, I left without being seen for the assessment. The facility called 20 minutes after I left and seemed as if they were concerned but I think it was more about the doctor's office calling them than them being concerned about me. Thankfully I'm alright. Staff was calm and attentive. read more

Do NOT go there!! I was there for mental health reasons and never once had a counseling session in the seven days they kept me. I saw the psychiatrist for 5 seconds, just long enough for him to ask if I was hearing voices or seeing things. My husband was about to call the cops because every time he called, they wouldn't put him through to me or just hung up on him. If you don't have insurance they kick you out after your 72 hour hold but if you have insurance, they will keep you as long as possible. Even if you go in voluntarily, they make it hard for you to leave on your own and don't tell you the terms until you are begging to be released. read more

If you're seeking help with addiction, don't go here. I went here to detox but it is not a rehab, it's a psych hospital. The doctors pay very little attention to the patients; I was asked the same basic questions 10 times in 6 days and saw an actual therapist exactly once. The facility is more like a prison, with a staff that is not equipped to handle medical needs aside from the nurse on duty. The patients are a revolving door of people and they seem intent on either getting you out as fast as possible or keeping you for too long while they swap your medications every two days. And if you're already in a bad place, this facility is just depressing (they take your shoelaces and belt, all doors are locked etc.) The staff is nice and they are willing to help you, but that's not enough to make this place worth it unless it's truly an emergency. read more

Someone I love is being held their against their will. She isn't a danger to herself or others, just has losts of good insurance. Insurance has been instructed to not pay them. She is a victim of funneling. Her psychiatrist funneled her to the ER who funneled her to a "behavioral health center." The whole time they were transporting her they were trying to get her to agree to use her insurance, after she rescinded her HIPAA agreement. They violated it instead. They are not going to let her out until she signs a payment agreement. She didn't want to be there, her civil rights were suspended so they could try to squeeze a buck out of her. She has seen no admitting orders even though she asked for them. They refused to advise her that she could be released AMA, (against medical advice), and once we advised her of it they pretended they didn't know what that meant. She is being held hostage for money by this "medical" establishment. Please do not let your loved ones near this place. She is rejecting all meds because they refuse to tell her what they are and she knows they are different than she was taking. This place is a nightmare. It is a member of the Piedmont system. If you go to a member of this system, this could happen to you. read more

Riverwoods in Riverdale, GA is a place that I would NEVER recommend sending a loved one to. The patient treatment (which I've seen with my own eyes as a visitor) was terrible. They are a facility that seems to care very much about getting paid, and appears to be running all sorts of scams to keep your loved one there as long as possible to collect as much money as possible, but they do almost NOTHING to actually help your loved one get better. No counseling, no therapy, no access to doctors (in our case there were only 2 Dr visits over the course of 4 days... one for check-in and one for check-out). Zero Dr visits for any form of treatment or medical assistance. This place has clearly exploited the system because so many people are forced to go to here against their will. They treat patients like CRIMINALS, not like people who are there to get help for a crisis. The people at the front desk are extremely rude and lazy, and seemed to very much enjoy pretending to "be the boss" of the people who came in to visit their loved ones. (I went to this facility several times to visit my loved one and was treated terribly EVERY SINGLE time). If you call to talk to medical staff (which is a different number than their main number) they simply won't answer. If you ask the front desk questions about your loved one's treatment plan, who their doctor is, etc, (even politely as I tried), they immediately get upset and defensive. They rudely recite policies they've memorized (which are entirely untrue, and they clearly don't understand). I should have seen the red flags when their "counselor" who visited us in the ER prior to us choosing Riverwoods said "ignore any bad google reviews about us because the reviewers are forced to go here". NO, THE REASON THIS PLACE HAS BAD REVIEWS IS BECAUSE IT IS A HORRIBLE FACILITY THAT'S STAFFED WITH INCOMPETENT EMPLOYEES !! In our case, a loved one called 911 on herself in an attempt to get help during an emotional breakdown where she was feeling suicidal. She was taken to the ER and given strong sedatives that made her very loopy (which I understand). Then family members were asked to leave the room so a "counselor" could talk with her. Moments later, we were invited back into the room (she's still in the ER and completely drugged up on sedatives) and say they've talked with her and her Dr and have decided to issue a "1013"... which basically means your loved one is deemed a danger to themselves and taken into custody, and is now essentially a PRISONER and is going to be forced in to an evaluation facility. We have no idea what this counselor said after they made us leave the room, and our loved one has no recollection of what she said because she was on so many sedatives. We later discovered that this "counselor" who we thought was there to help our loved one through a crisis, was actually AN EMPLOYEE OF RIVERWOODS there to RECRUIT HER into their facility. It was very obvious to me that the counselor/recruiter waited until our loved one was drugged on sedatives and essentially coached her into saying the right words to obtain a 1013. And once that happens, THERE'S NO UN-DOING IT. If this scenario happens to you, PLEASE RESEARCH ALL of the facilities in your area, regardless of how far away they are, and I HIGHLY recommend to anyone, DO NOT PICK THE RIVERWOODS FACILITY!!! (try a web search for "1013 mental health center near me") You'll immediately find that most of these facilities aren't great, but that Riverwoods is one of the WORST RATED ones). Also do a web search for "1013 patient rights" and look through some of the info before making any decisions... the "counselor" (aka recruiter) WILL try to convince you need to use their facility, but you CAN pick a different one. The fact that there was no 1013 issued until this recruiter showed up, kicked us out of the room, and spoke with my loved one who was heavily drugged, is absolutely shocking. I suspect it's illegal too, but we're still looking into what we can do about that. Riverwoods would be much more accurately described as a very expensive "detention center" rather than a place where people should go to get help.... and by all logical reasoning, they a appear to be running a scam where they keep patients as long as possible in order to get insurance payments. Oddly, those with no insurance or on medicaid were released in 24hrs, but those with decent insurance were held for several days (with no apparent link to how ill they are). In my loved one's case, she was told by the admitting doctor at the facility that she was cleared to go in 1 day, but the staff "lost the paperwork" so she wound up staying for several days. She said this "lost paperwork" also happened to several other patients she met there. Simply put, DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!! read more

My mother died in 2015 and Riverwoods has yet to acknowledge her fall at their facility or her death. Riverwoods has yet to send a copy of incident report that I requested in 2015. Iam still wondering why this facility has not been closed for being inadequate. Does not benefit is patients or patient's family. The staff is rude and almost every staff member has an thick accent with an attitude. They do not like family members that are outspoken or question their authority and come to visit their family members. The staff gets upset if a visit goes into a patient's room because staff member can get written up or fired. I don't care about the staff and their job, my purpose in being there was to check up on my mother. So, I am going check and I wished staff would stopped because I would beat them down. My advice go check you family members room because they cannot stop you. read more

This is an absolute joke of a "behavioral health system." I am a mental health clinician myself, and had the occasion to bring a family member in for "assessment" because of a series of recent psychiatric issues and poor decisions. (Unfortunately Riverwoods is the only behavioral health facility that is a participating provider with our health insurance plan.) Trash can outside waiting area was piled to overflowing, trash on the ground. Waiting room is in disarray, various papers and wrappers strewn on the chairs. No social distancing whatsoever. No clinical or clerical staff wearing masks, despite our being in a pandemic and this being a "hospital." The receptionist simply handed us a clipboard with several forms. No greeting. No explanation. After a 15-minute conversation with said family member and without consulting me or my husband (despite the signed authorization to speak with us), the clinician (who refused to give me her last name) told our family member that he was "just experiencing life" or some nonsense. She made no recommendations, gave him no resources, and simply allowed him to leave the room. When I challenged her on this, she smugly noted that he is an adult and that she was under no obligation to ask us any questions. When I then spelled out the series of recent events that had occurred, she noted that there's really "nothing going on with" him. Uninterested at best. Clinically incompetent at worst. I realize many are going to feel disgruntled by their interactions with the mental health care system and will subsequently post bad reviews because they didn't want to be there or they didn't think they needed treatment. However, take it from a clinician that this place is the dregs. (I'm giving Riverwoods 1 star because 0 stars is not an option on this website.) read more
