They do canoe tours for members along the Ghost River. Early on an October morning we drove out to the end point and then were dropped off with our guide and motley canoeing crew. Both of us had been canoeing before but not in a long time and that became readily apparent as soon as we got in the water. Our guide was very helpful though and before long we were able to steer the canoe...kind of. Our tour was lots of fun. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area. We learned a lot about the river itself and the natural world surrounding us. The river and its surroundings were stunning. I would recommend a tour to anyone who wants to get out of Memphis and into some wilderness.

Big River Crossing is one of my favorite places to exercise, people watch and experience the…read morefullness of the Mississippi River. It's a pedestrian bridge that literally allows you to teleport to another state, well, not really. But close. It allows you to experience scenic views of downtown Memphis, the riverfront, Bass Pro shop and even more. The bridge connects downtown Memphis to West Memphis, Ark. You'll undoubtedly see passersby walking, jogging, cycling, painting, admiring, smiling and the list goes on. It's not uncommon to witness a train along the bridge or overhead (depending where you are standing). Here's what I'm geeked about (not fake geeked, but seriously geeked) - in all of the times that I've traveled the bridge, there has never been an army convoy being transported. It was the most magnificent site that anyone could imagine. The longest train ever with car after car of gas tankers, Humvees, electrical circuit cabinets, literally THE army on wheels. I was speechless for quite a while. My day was made! What are you waiting for? Get up, get out and see for yourself.

Walking the Big River Crossing in Memphis felt like stepping into a postcard--except the breeze was…read morereal, the sun was setting, and my legs were definitely getting a workout. It starts off pretty normal: a bridge, some signs, people with strollers and bikes. Then, a few steps in, you look left and boom--there's the mighty Mississippi just doing its thing, rolling slow and wide like it knows it's the star of the show. Look right, and the Memphis skyline's just casually posing for every photo you take, no filter needed. Halfway across, I realized something weird: I was crossing state lines on foot. Tennessee behind me, Arkansas ahead. No tolls, no border guards--just a bunch of joggers and one guy playing country music out of a Bluetooth speaker strapped to his backpack. As the sun dipped, the lights kicked on--thousands of little LEDs blinking across the bridge like it was throwing its own party. It felt like magic. A peaceful, riverfront, light-show kind of magic. Five stars for turning a simple walk into a memory I'll probably brag about way too often.

We walked next store was the park formerly known as DeSoto Park. It had a swing set and a walk in concrete swimming pool. We use play on the Indian burial mound by sliding down with cut out cardboards. At the time, we were kids and we didn't know that there were Indian buried here. We are very sorry. They had several canyons. There is a Lookout Post mound with a small wooden door where you can see the Mississippi River. The park is kept up very nice and clean. The Marine Veteran Hospital was vacant for years. It is now revocation into nice apartments. I highly recommend the visit with the Metal Museum.

From a city planning point of view, this park is well thought out. You have an 1800s era army recruiting station and metalwork museum on one side, the French fort historic district on the other, and they are enclosed on the remaining side by the Mississippi River and a slice of the Memphis skyline.

I love using this trail for my training runs. Very well kept area. I've never felt unsafe alone.read more
